Pouring a glowing orange/copper color, Funkier Pumpkin leaps from the glass with a rich, pumpkin spice aroma punctuated by funky, forest floor notes from the brettanomyces, a wild yeast strain known for imparting unique flavors and aromas. With an effervescent mouthfeel thanks to spritzy carbonation, the flavor of Funkier Pumpkin features a balanced array of pumpkin pie spices including nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger and allspice. No single spice dominates before giving way to a slight pumpkin flavor that transitions into pleasant, refreshing tartness; a slight warming finish from the cinnamon and ABV and a touch of toasty, toffee-like sweetness from caramel malt.

Best before 02/25/2018 (originally rated December 2017). Pours a golden-amber colour with a fizzy off-white head, average retention and some soapy lace. Gets eventually hazy and the heads last longer. At first pour, the funkiness from the Brett really stood out, but then the spices of the pumpkin brew come out more. The Brett really stands out in the taste with the sourness at first. The spices mildly shows in the finish. Lightly lingers. Feels almost like an infected pumpkin ale, and I like pumpkin ales - so should be left alone. Enough with the Brett.

Pours clear copper with a fairly thick pale buff head. Aroma delivers fresh malt, pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and subtle woody hop notes. Flavor comes across as liquid pumpkin pie - cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, riding fresh malt and shy woody hop undertones. (BTW - did you know that canned "pumpkin" usually doesn’t contain much pumpkin; it’s actually mostly flavorful squashes, because real pumpkin has hardly any flavor.) Mouthfeel is fairly firm, though fizz leaves a little to be desired. Finish brings forth more spice. Perfect for October.
