As a special treat for lovers of big, complex stouts, Boulevard Brewing Company offers the 2015 Imperial Stout "X" Series. The "X" factor stands for key ingredients added to each of several different releases planned throughout the year. Inspired by the Aztec beverage xocoatl, this edition includes ancho and pasilla negro chiles, cinnamon, and cacao nibs, lending it a richly complex, spicy character.

Pours deep motor-oil sable with a thick but not very persistent tan head. Aroma has notes of roast malt, semi-sweet chocolate, spice and pepper. Mouth-filling flavor delights with cocoa, roast malt, spice, subtle pepper, and earthy notes plus a hint of molasses. Texture is firm and viscous, if not too fizzy. Give your heart to this one - mwa ha ha ha ha!

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. 2015 Vintage. Aroma is spicy and roasty with chocolate and cocoa. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, cocoa powder, cinnamon, spices and peppery notes. Body is medium with a strong, dense, bubbly carbonation and a mild peppery warmth. Also rather sticky as well. Ends a touch sweeter with more chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, light coffee, cinnamon, peppers, spices and chocolate cake.
