Winter Ale, a Belgian dubbel style ale. Perfect for the winter season, brewed in the Abbey style which is rooted in the monastic brewing tradition. Deep brown with a hint of red, it has a blend of Belgian Malts and Belgian Candy Sugar. With smooth malt accented flavors and a fruity aroma, it is moderately hopeed with Styrian Goldings from Slovenia

Boozy and over sweet. This beer was a disappointment, and I have no idea what it has to do with the holiday season. The aroma is alcohol, caramel malt and a mess of Belgian phenolic/fruit character. There are some interesting fruit notes, raisins, apricots, grapes, in there that might be appreciated, but I’m not a huge fan of dubbels. The beer is a reddish copper with little head. The flavor is sweet and boozy with some bitterness, but it doesn’t really come together. Ok beer but not great for a winter seasonal or the style.

so far, i've rated a whopping "1" black diamond beer above a 2.5, and it was still just a 2.9, so i was really going into this one with NO expectations. it was just a throw in to the 13 beer winter tasting we did last night. well, the most accurate thng i can say is that it was not nearly as bad as I expected, and while i probably won't search it out again, it was a decent beer, the first and maybe only time i'll ever say that about BD. pours light mahagony brown with little head. lots of candy sugar make up for a lack of complexity but the beer is tasty. belgian inspired? yeast. dry sweet finish. not bad.
