A disappointment from the Berghoff line. This has little of the character I associate with a good German-style pilsner. The straw color is fine, but only a thin white head; the body goes flat almost immediately as does the head. The nose is not the crisp, bold hops it should be, but rather a somewhat distasteful boiled soury aroma. This is a medium-bodied beer with a smooth texture. The flavors are better than the nose, but just off a little, with a hint of spoiled veggies. The finish tries to be crisp but there's just not enough hops to carry it off.

Not too much to say here, so I guess I'll just rant. Why is pilsner the only style that is better (IMO) imported? Is it the water? Is the malt, hops? What? Should it be lightstruck? I just don't get it. Well heemer's review pretty much nailed it, like cooked veggies and low hops.

Very light gold with fast moving bubbles in my lager glass. A little wisp of a head at the top. Strong vegetable aroma of carrots and celery. Hints of earthy hops. The taste is thin and metallic. Notes of carrots and even turnips are here. A decent pilsener, but a little thin and watery, even for the style.

Medium gold color with a modest head and sparse lacing. Mild aroma-a little malty caramel and spice. Light to medium bodied, moderately sweet and malty with a faint hoppy bitterness in the finish. Round and slightly fruity, decent tasting brew but not hoppy enough to really qualify as a pils in my book.

I don't normally like pilsners nor lighter beers. I had this a beer taste and was pretty impressed. It didn't have the funky skunky bad fruity flavor I'd noticed in European pilners. It was like the description above, smooth, mildly crisp and light. Nothing over the top. Just a great warm weather session beer. IMO,THE perfect lawnmower/summer beer. Great with a splash of lemon too.
