Golden Vox is a rye pale lager that was conceived and brewed collaboratively between Beau’s and Canadian hip hop artist k-os. The recipe is a blend of rye and barley malts and 100% Ontario-grown hops, with just a kiss of whiskey, courtesy of a light aging on rye-soaked oak spirals. GoldenVox was created for the Collaboration Nation competition in June 2015, which takes place at Session Toronto Craft Beer Festival. History and Style Rye pale lager is something of a hybrid creation, blending the noticeable citrusy hop character of an American Pale Ale with the spicy elements of rye malt, and adding in the signature crisp finish of a lager. An aging on rye-whiskey-soaked oak adds subtle complexity to this balanced, approachable pale-golden beer. Tasting Notes Smooth malty notes are kept in balance by the citrus & slight pine hop character. Peppery undertones derived from the rye malt harmonize with gentle warmth and subtle toastiness from light aging on rye-whiskey-soaked oak. Food Pairings Soft creamy blue cheeses such as Gorgonzola dolce, Cambozola, or medium cheddar & gouda cheeses; smoked herb-rubbed tofu; eggplant, ricotta & roasted pepper flan with chimichurri; cheese agnolotti with gorgonzola & rosemary cream. Bottle from LCBO. Pours a big foamy off-white head that leaves sticky lacing and has a golden appearance. Average carbonation. Aromas of bready and toasty malts, subtle grainy notes. Flavours are mostly malty with notes of rye, some bready and cereal malts and also a bit of earthy and herbal type hops. Some faint hints of spices. Some bitterness on the palate. Average retention. Pretty good.

Pours a clean, rich golden colour with a white cap, good retention and small lacing. Very light carbonation. Aromas of sweet malts well-balanced by lemon notes from the mild grassy hops. The taste is nice and peppery with some decent bitterness in the finish. Nothing too crazy, but a nice blended lager.
