A Scottish ale with San Diego spirit. Our Piper Down Scottish Ale hits all the right notes for the Ballast Point Bagpipe Corps that inspired it. We created this very low hopped, malty ale for the band to enjoy using UK Maris Otter malt, roasted barley, UK hops and low fermentation temperatures. Then we let the brew’s sweet complexity build over a three-hour boil. Full of roasted caramel flavor, it’s a pub classic with Ballast Point personality. Alc. By Vol. - 5.8% Bitterness - 22 IBUs Food Pairings - Raw Oysters, Candied Walnuts, Grilled Cinnamon Lamb Chops

Pours clear and slightly reddish cola brown with a fairly thick, if effervescent, light tan head. Aroma is not strong, but tempts with caramel, malty, horehound, and subtle clove notes. Flavor echoes the aroma but takes it up a notch, and adds an earthy hint. Texture is fairly firm and smooth, though fizz leaves something to be desired. Put it down your pipes!

Rich. dark amber body with a thin tannish colored head that leaves some spots of lace. Nice aroma, the usual caramel malts with a slightly toasty quality, but there is a fruity presence i havent had with this style before and the big sweetness isnt there. Flavor is about the same caramel and toffee, not very sweet and the fruit finally comes out once it warms a bit on the finish. Overall its pretty good, a little different for this style.

Bottle from an Ohio beer haul of mine. Beautiful rich brown color with a near perfect off white head and plenty of lacing. Big malty and caramel nose and palate, biscuits and hint of apples, light earthy hops, more caramel and biscuits then back end has some peat and tobacco and hint of smokiness. Very nice Scottish Ale - will definitely buy again when I can find it.

if you like scotch ales, i can't see not diggin this. it smells exactly like a scotch ale should. Richly malty, with hints of peat and fruit and toffee. The flavor is much the same. Body lacking juuuuuust a tiny bit in richness, but that's really nitpicking. A deal at $5 or so a bomber.

Pours with an opaque dark brown body topped by a thin to medium thick, off-white head with some lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a note of fruit, caramel, and a bit of roastiness. Medium to full bodied, bubbly and oily.
