Traditionally Christmas ales were a seasonal gift from the brewery to their loyal drinkers, being richer, stronger and more generously hopped than their usual brews. A variety of roasted malts (Pale Ale, Vienna, Rye, Crystal, Amber, Wheat) give a sweet biscuity flavour with hints of cinder toffee. English Goldings hops used in abundance bring flavours of Seville orange marmalade and a floral aroma.

500 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 7%, IBU 52. Chestnut to mahogany colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of ripe red and dark fruits, hints of rye bread and bitter orange marmalade, also lightly roast malts. The flavour has moderately roast malts, mild coffee, rye bread and earthy and orangey hops. Reasonably good beer.
