Add a chewy stout brewed with figs to a couple New England Distilling rye whiskey barrels for the winter—about four months—and you get this complex, silky treat. Overwinter exits the barrel with a warm aroma of cocoa, oak, and a hint of coffee. Enhanced by the barrel’s notes of vanilla and oak, the beer’s flavor ends up somewhere between hot fudge and a rich brownie, with a warming finish to match. A velvet-smooth texture makes this beer depart our glasses all too soon.
