Sampled on tap at Alesmith on 3/20/2014. This dopplebock pours a dark brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, bready, and sweet, with lots of raisins and dates. A medium to full bodied dopplebock. The malts are fruity, bready and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy, Mild carbonation. Good balance. Smooth taste. Lots of residual sweetish, but not cloying. A touch of sherry like sweetness. A big sweet bready beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.

Up until 2012 (quad) the Decadence releases from Alesmith had been an ever so slight letdown. Not that they weren't good. They were good. Very good. But for an anniversary release from one of the best brewer's on the planet, I wanted them to be elite, and they always fell juuuust a little short of that. Til last year. They nailed the quad. It's one of the best in style I've ever had. And now, I can say the same for the Doppelbock. This stuff is a no frills but EXTREMELY well made brew. Notes of fresh baked bread, caramel, toffee, light spices and yeast hit your nose and your palate and keep you coming back for more. This came from out of my area, but I'll be looking for more.
