Our 2013 Great American Beer Festival gold-medal winner, Old Numbskull, has been aging in premium Brandy barrels for the past year to develop its rich and intense flavor profile. The result is an amazingly complex beer that balances the caramel and toasted malt character of Old Numbskull with notes of plum, honey, and oak from the barrel aging process.

wish lister. had the base and bourbon BA versions just a week ago. Bourbon still my favorite, but this was nice. Barreling was for a year plus, but seemed much more subtle than either the bourbon or rye whiskey. nose was balanced between the beer and the barrel. Lots of toasty carmel (not so much hops) coming through, and some fruit and oak. flavor was sweet leaning, but very good as well. warming and delicious.

So my buddy Todd brings back a bottle of this from a recent Cali trip. And shares it. Because that is what good beer friends do - they share. This Numbskull pours a murky dark brown, nearly flat with little to no head nor lacing. Rich decadent aromas and flavors of rich ripe pitted fruits, tons of malts, big earthy hops, toffee, rich cream, Brandy, some slight woodsiness, more ripe fruits, booze. Wow. Just wow. Thank you Todd for bring the big guns to a very small gathering.
