Friar Tuck was reputed to be a man of immense girth and strength who could hold his own with the men of Sherwood Forest in many physical contests. His prowess, it is thought, was due to the unique qualities of his secret dark brew, the recipe for which he obtained from an European monastery where monks were renowned brewmasters in medieval times. Undoubtedly his beer was unique and the secret recipe was lost with his passing, however, stout beers began to reappear to wide acclaim in the early 19th Century. This is a strong, full bodied English-style imperial stout, smooth on the palate with a light hop finish. This brew is an excellent accompaniment to seafood and red meats, or on its own at the end of a meal.

Bottled@The 1st Vaasa CS/ES beer session (thanks JP). Pitch black with minor beige head. Aroma is ashes, coffee, caramel malts, roasted malts and some slight notes of toffee. Flavour is rather much the same, but has a clearly stronger chocolaty tone. Very pleasant.

Great googly-moogly what a find. Stopped off at the brewery shop last week. So far this is by far the best of the bunch. Really jet black, opaque stout with coffee foam head. Head quickly dissipates and lacing evident. Not a great deal aroma (hence the 6), but oodles of flavour. Not too hoppy either - so a real imperial stout. Tastes of liquorice and leather and dry earth. Going down rather too quickly with some hand made vintage cheddar. Could do with a little sweetness to counterbalance the alcohol, but it is very representative of the type Bliss!!!!
