Belgian Dark Ale - Makers Mark Oak for a bold bourbon barrel aged flavor. Belgian caramel malts combined with dark candi sugar impart dark caramel flavors without the roast you find in Porters and Stouts. European continental hops balance the sweetness with earthy tones.

Tasted at the 6th Annual Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest on 11/12/2011. This Abbey double pours a medium brown color from the firkin. Medium sized white/tan foamy head. The aroma is fruity, sweet, brown sugar and alcohol. A medium bodied double. The malts are fruity and sweet, brown sugar, dark fruit and alcohol. The hops are earthy. Soft carbonation. Touch of alcohol. Very smooth. Nice sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
