We brewed this ale only with the famous sake yeast No. 7 from Masumi Sake in Nagano, Japan. On advice from Masumi’s master brewers we fermented this ale very slowly at low temperatures to bring out No. 7’s fabulously fruity character. This is a beer, but has some flavors found in a sake. A great combination! Ingredients: Grimstad water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops and sake yeast No 7.

Opaque reddish brown with fast disappearing foam head. No big fan of barley wines. Too much alcohol dominated. Aroma is yeasty, grass, earthy. Taste is little sweet, some hay, leather. (Bergen 201311)

light orange in color, sweet fruity honey-like aroma and a similar flavor. alcohol is obvious, but it's not overly hot. a little sticky and slick going down. the sake yeast lends a unique aspect, but it's not elite, and therefore not worth the high $.

No doubt a nice cold weather sipper. Orange-amber body with a short head and a bit of spotty lacing here and there. Strong and sturdy with a vinous quality throughout. Sweet and a touch dry, the alcohol is noticeable and very influential to the overall affect. Flavor has a woody accent that adds to the honey, biscuits, caramel and grapes. Very interesting and off the wall. Glad to be able to try it.

Holy BAllS! barrels of flavour, aroma, wicked orange colour, hot in the mouth, like grand marnier. Great sherry notes, even a bit of port. If this was blind I might actually guess that it was a wickedly huge pale ale. Hoppy characteristics of citrus and pine, grapefruit, white grapes, honey, melon, malts, brown sugar, bit of butter, fresh baked cookie dough. Holy yum, holy big, holy balanced, this brewery seems to kick ridiculous ass.

Pours out in a hazy amber appearance with a small white head. Big sweet aroma of honey, cantaloupe, red apples, over-riped cherries and white pepper. BIG body finish warming and sweet fruity notes of honey, melon, over-riped raspberries, figs, candied raisins, rose-petals and alcohol. Long sweet and warming finish of cookies, yeast, honey, almonds, licorice roots and spunned sugar. Funny stuff, if a bit sweet in the long run.

250 ml(?) bottles, courtesy of the brewery, and Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Brewed with sake yeast, Nasumi No. 7. Reddish orange colour, low head. Very nice vinous aroma, notes of sherry and oak. Sweet flavour, notes of sherry and oak again. Warming mouthfeel.
