151 | Leffe Tripel | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 (330 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV was 8.5%.) Hazy golden colour, large lasting head. Strong sweetish yeasty and fruity aroma. Flavour is sweet but not cloying, yeasty and spicy (cloves), reasonably malty with a decent hoppy bitterness which leaves a pleasant aftertaste. Not a bad triple, but like others of this style the yeast is a bit too dominant to be "perfect" in my book. I won’t mind having another one, though. You’re buying? Thank you very much, mate! |

152 | Grimbergen Triple | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 (33 cl bottle). Golden beer with a slight yeast haziness, large head. Very weak initial aroma, improves as the beer warms up - I get caramel, oak, honey and apricot. Very sweet fruity and honeylike flavour, next to cloying, low bitterness - a dessert beer, I'd say. Overall I'm a bit disappointed with this one, you expect more from the Belgians. |

154 | Westmalle Tripel | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 4.1
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 I actually prefer the Dubbel to this one. The Tripel is nonetheless a great beer. Colour is blonde and hazy, beer pours with an ENORMOUS head - too much, really. Lovely aroma of spices and citrus, flavour and aftertaste is spicy and quite bitter, not as complex and rounded as the Dubbel. Very potent with its 9.5% ABV, but the alcohol is relatively well hidden for a blonde. Like all trappistes well made, but not quite in the class of Rochefort |

155 | Maredsous 10 | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 4.2
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 (33 cl bottle, now available in Norway). Deep golden to amber colour, large head. Very nice aroma of dried and ripe fresh fruits and herbs, yeast, malts, oak and pipe tobacco. Flavour is spicy with an alcoholic warmth (no surprise at 10% ABV), elements of dried fruits, medicinal herbs and brown candy sugar. Herbal aftertaste. A very good beer that packs a real punch. |

156 | Nøgne Ø Trippel | Norway | Abbey Tripel | 4.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle conditioned. The Trippel is finally for sale in some pubs and restaurants, not yet in Vinmonopolet stores. The beer pours hazy golden with a moderate head which vanishes after a while and leaves very little lacing. Very pleasant yeasty and fruity aroma with notes of oak and spices, hints of barnyard in the background. Flavour is sweet (a bit too sweet?) with an oaky and moderately spicy character. A certain alcoholic punch, not unpleasant. Subtle hops in the finish. I started drinking the beer a little colder than the recommended temperature, but liked it that way. Clearly another craft brew from the good people at Nøgne Ø, but I’d suggest a slightly less generous amount of demerara sugar in the next batch. |

157 | Anglo Dutch Tabatha the Knackered | United Kingdom | Abbey Tripel | 3.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Cask conditioned at the 32nd Cambridge Beer Festival, gravity dispense. Golden colour. Like the CBF programme says, it is: "Fruity, hoppy and bitter, powerful and warming" - but "tripel style??? This is a strong English pale ale, as far as I’m concerned. Oh well, the brewers call it an abbey tripel, so be it. Typical pale ale aroma and flavour. |

158 | Watou Tripel | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 4.2
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 750 ml silk-print corked (champagne style) brown bottle, bought in Denmark. Golden colour, slightly hazy, pours with an enormous, fluffy and lingering white head. Very nice aroma of yeast, oak, brown candy sugar, horse stable and cigars. Slightly spicy and peppery flavour with tolerable maltiness and hops, and a slight alcoholic bite. Aftertaste is okay, but does not last "forever". Not a particularly complex flavour, but a good beer all the same. |

159 | St. Feuillien Triple | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 750 ml bottle, corked champagne-style. Bought in Denmark. Large white head. Beer is clear (hazy when I poured the sediment in) pale golden. Very nice yeasty aroma with notes of fruits, spices, horse stable and some oak. Flavour is initially sweet, spicy and yeasty with decent hops. Light bodied for an 8.5% ABV beer, alcohol is well hidden. Aftertaste is dry with a hoppy and spicy bitterness. A decent triple this one. |

174 | Jopen Trinitas | Netherlands | Abbey Tripel | 3.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 (October 2013). 330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgaard. BB date 09.08.13. ABV is 9%. Hazy deep golden to pale brown colour, moderate white head. Sweetish and spicy aroma, typical of belgian ale yeast - but also some "unfresh" hints, which may or may not be caused by aging. Quite refreshing flavour for a 9% beer, not as sweet as many other tripels, spicy and malty notes, hints of brown kandij sugar, despite the beer apparently being "Reinheitsgebot". Decent hops in the finish. |
