102 | 8 Wired The Sultan | New Zealand | Abbey Quadrupel | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Cloudy dark brown colour, moderate but lasting off-white head. Moderate aroma of sultanas, oaked fortified wine, rum-raisin and liqueur-filled chocolates. The flavour is oaky / woody with notes of sultanas / raisins and other dark dried fruits, but not nearly as sweet as I feared. The hops are very moderate. Nice and drinkable, but has not quite the complexity of best Belgian ales in the abt / quadrupel style. Still well worth sampling. |

103 | St. Bernardus Tripel | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 3.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 330 ml bottle, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8%. Slightly hazy pale yellow colour, huge white head. Strong and "typical tripel" aroma: notes of Belgian ale yeast, fruit, flowers, mild spices and white kandij sugar. The medium sweet flavour is spicy and moderately fruity, with decent hops in the finish. Has everything you expect from a tripel. |

Pleasant spicy aroma, also notes of oxidised fruit, hints of farmhouse. Rich mouthfeel. The medium sweet flavour is spicy and somewhat alcoholic, some fruit too. Tolerable hops in the aftertaste. Not a bad beer, will buy again. |

105 | Diabolici | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8 750 ml corked bottle, new at Vinmonopolet, as Diabolici, "brewed in BeNeLux for Anthony Martin". Note that it is brewed FOR them, and not BY them, so who the actual brewers are, remains to be investigated. ABV is 8%. This is closer to a tripel, and definitely not a dubbel. Golden colour, huge white head. Moderately spicy aroma, maybe somewhat less sweetish than your average tripel. The flavour is distinctly spicy, with some kandij sugar and a little caramel, but not too sweet. The alcohol is noticeable, but not overwhelming. A quite decent Belgian, but isn’t the idea of another "diabolic" beer name a bit worn out now? |

108 | Mikkeller Belgian Tripel | Denmark | Abbey Tripel | 3.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Hazy deep golden to amber colour, low white head. Lovely fruity and spicy aroma, notes of brown kandij sugar, hints of tobacco. The flavour is fairly spicy with a substantial fruity and malty sweetness, not quite as light bodied (for its strength) as some other triples are, has a distinct presence of hops and alcohol. Interesting and quite good. |

110 | Gouden Carolus Tripel | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 750 ml corked and wired bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 9.0%. Very pale yellow colour, huge white head. Strong fruity, yeasty and spicy (cloves a.o.) aroma. The flavour is spicy with some fruit and white kandij sugar, but the sweetness is nearly too much. Still a good beer, but if it is worth the high price in Norway is debatable. |

Not much chili flavour while the beer is in your mouth, but there’s a distinct chili burn in the aftertaste. A bit weird, but well worth sampling. |

117 | Dark Horse Sapient Trip Ale | United States | Abbey Tripel | 3.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 12 fl. oz. bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is not mentioned on the label. Murky brownish colour, moderate to low white head. Strong sweetish aroma with notes of white candi sugar; Belgian ale yeast and various spices. Moderate carbonation in the glass, but enough to make the beer fresh and pleasant to drink. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma made me fear, the sweetness is actually well balanced with a fine spiciness and distinct hops in the finish. Nice one! |

121 | Enghien Noël Triple Blonde | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 9%. Pale golden colour, slightly hazy, huge white head. Strong sweetish aroma of Belgian ale yeast, white kandi sugar, over-ripe fruits and mild spices. The flavour is sweet with a nice spicness and decent hops throughout, maybe too strong notes of white kandi sugar. Sweet enough to replace a sweet wine with many finer dishes, but has also enough bitterness to avoid being cloying, and retain some refreshing qualities. |

124 | Kinn Bøvelen | Norway | Abbey Tripel | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 750 ml capped bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Brew #61, ABV is 9,5%. Hazy golden colour, huge white head. Very nice sweetish fruity and spicy aroma, typical notes of Belgian ale yeast. A hint of farmhouse too. The flavour is still fairly sweet (maybe too sweet), will probably benefit from a few years’ cellaring. Typical spicy and yeasty triple notes, some bitterness in the finish. |
