1202 | Orkney Puffin Ale | United Kingdom | Bitter | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, from Coop Mega Kleppe. ABV is 4.5%. Beautiful clear copper colour, large to moderate head, slightly off-white. Aroma according to the commercial description: "sweet nutty malt, cedarwood and dark fruits" - I agree! Flavour / "on the palate": again referring to the commercial description: "Rich nutty malt, sweet smooth blackcurrant and lemon mousse leading to blackcurrant leaf and wood notes with a dry woody, spicy nutmeg finish." I agree again! - but I am not too happy with the woody part. Still a fairly decent beer. |

1203 | Daleside Santas Progress | United Kingdom | Bitter | 2.2
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Cask pint at Wetherspoons, London Victoria Station. Cloudy orange-brownish colour, low off-white head. Very moderate aroma, a little malts, a hint of butter. Minimal carbonation, poor condition. Initially dull flavour, quite dry. Some earthy hops in the finish cannot save the beer from falling in the "boring" category. Daleside can do better than this - and JDW should serve their beers in better condition. Could not finish the pint. |
