Aroma of malts, caramel, kandij sugar syrup, mild spices, a hint of oak. Soft and rich mouthfeel. The medium sweet flavour has the same elements as the aroma, but the oaky notes are more pronounced now. Pleasant to drink.

Aroma of malts, molasses, brown sugar, oak and old sherry. Medium sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, also hints of mild spices. Warming mouthfeel. Excellent beer!

500 ml bottle, vintage 2022, batch #2586, from Vinmonopolet Egersund. ABV is 15.5%, IBU 30. Hazy dark brown to black colour, small tan head. Aroma of dark malts, molasses, brown sugar. Fairly sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, also dark dried fruits, moderate bittering hops, warming mouthfeel.

330 ml bottle, at Roma Pizzeria, Funchal. ABV is 10.5%. Slightly hazy orange colour, large white head. Aroma and flavour of Belgian ale yeast, kandij sugar syrup, mild spices, stewed fruits, hints of dark dried fruits. Nothing wrong with it, but there are even better Belgian strong ales in this style.

Flavour like the aroma, sweet and alcoholic. Won't buy again, there are better Belgian strong ales out there.

Aug. 2019: 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 9.5%. Pale golden colour, large white head. Aroma of spicy Belgian ale yeast, sweetish pilsener malts, and herbal and spicy hops. The flavour is slightly citric and moderately spicy, also with sweet notes of pilsener malts.

Shared bottle at Bryne tasting. Pale brown colour, off-white head. Nice aroma and flavour of Belgian ale (with "spicy" yeast) and bourbon. Fizzy mouthfeel.

330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 9.5%. Hazy pale golden colour, huge white head. Moderate spicy and sllghtly yeasty aroma. Plenty of carbonation in the mouth (a little less would still be enough). Spicy and crisp flavour, fairly dry for a Belgian ale this strong, decent hops.

750 ml corked and caged "champagne" bottle, from the Norwegian importer, as Bzart Single Hop Tradition Brut Nature. Apparently Tradition is the hop variety used. ABV is 14%. Does this beer need a split? Hazy golden colour, large white head. Interesting aroma - farmhouse, oak, leather, over-ripe apples, honey. Very sweet and alcoholic flavour, certainly not "brut". Sugar, honey, alcohol, some bittering hops. Unbalanced. Whatever the idea was behind this beer, they did not succeed.

750 ml bottle, probably from Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 9.5%. Dark brown colour with floaties, moderate off-white to beige head. Pleasant aroma of malts, caramel, orange peel and raisins, hints of mild spices. Medium sweet and mildly spicy flavour, again with notes of orange peel and raisins. Very moderate hops. A quite interesting and pleasant beer, which I’ll be happy to buy again for Christmas.

Aroma of Belgian ale yeast, mild spices, brown kandij sugar, sultanas and orange peel. Medium sweet flavour, spicy, again with notes of kandij sugar, sultanas and orange peel. Tasty.

June 2019: 650 ml bottle, as Rip Current Dangerous Undertow Belgian-style Abbey Ale, Bourbon barrel series, generously shared by bergstaden, many thanks! ABV is 13%. Dark brown colour, no head. Intense aroma of bourbon and oak, also notes of molasses. Lovely flavour of bourbon and oak again, medium sweet, not even a hint of fusel, very good. Warming mouthfeel. Excellent beer.

330 ml bottle, from Det Bette Ølhus, Aalbæk. ABV is 9.0%. Clear deep golden colour, large white head. Strong sweetish aroma of Belgian ale yeast, white kandij sugar syrup and alcohol. The flavour is moderately sweet (but not as sweet as the aroma made me fear) with spicy notes, also white kandij sugar and herbal hops, the alcohol is evident.

Strong sweetish aroma of white kandij sugar syrup, ripe bananas and dust, hints of green peppercorns and ginger. Sweet flavour, notes of white kandij sugar syrup and malt sugar, with a much needed counterpoint in spicy notes of green peppercorns, ginger and moderate hops. Might well have another one, but not necessarily in the same session.

Lovely aroma of herbal hops (Saaz, Styrian Goldings and Equinox), hints of citrus and spices. Refreshing despite its strength. Medium dry and crisp flavour, dominated by herbal and spicy hops, some alcohol. Medium bitter finish.

Nearly clear pale yellow colour, pours fizzy with large bubbles and a moderate coarse white head. Interesting complex aroma of fruity (tropical fruits, blueberries), grassy, herbal and spicy hops. The flavour is refreshing for a beer of this strength, is quite dry, and has moderate tropical fruits first, then distinct herbal and spicy hops throughout the finish and aftertaste.

750 ml corked and waxed bottle, as Baladin Leön, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. BB date Nov. 2014. ABV is 9%. Hazy dark brown colour, large off-white head. Aroma of mild spices, dark dried fruits and rotting fruits. Malty and mildly spicy flavour, notes of brown sugar and caramel, hints of vanilla, but still not too sweet. Dark dried fruits again. Light bodied for its strength, and pleasant to drink.
