826 | Augustijn Blonde | Belgium | Belgian Ale | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 330 ml stubby bottle, bought at Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is now 7% - seems to vary quite a bit. Pale yellow colour, slightly hazy, huge and white head lasts "forever". Fairly nice aroma of spices and Belgian ale yeast. The flavour is mildly spicy with moderate notes of white candi sugar, not too sweet, quite nice. Moderate hops. Light bodied for its strength, alcohol is well hidden, pleasant to drink. |

827 | Föroya Bjór Sct. Brigid Blond | Faroe Islands | Belgian Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, a gift. ABV is 5.8%. This might be the first beer I’ve had with angelica as one of the ingredients. (In the Nordic countries, this herb was not uncommon as a flavour ingredient in farmhouse beer and spirits in the olden days.) Hazy pale golden colour, big white head. Interesting and pleasant aroma of herbs, spices and Belgian ale yeast. Light bodied. Fairly dry flavour with moderate notes of herbs and spices, but the mouthfeel is too thin. Slightly fruity / acidic finish, very moderate bitterness. Could have been better, but well worth sampling. |

828 | Leireken Bio Boekweit Blond/Sarasin Blonde | Belgium | Belgian Ale | 3.3
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, as Leireken Bio Boekweit Blond / Sarrasin Blonde, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6%. Extremely pale straw colour, nothing amber about it at all (are you sure the Amber is the same as the Blond?). Moderate white head. Strong yeasty esters in the aroma, spicy notes. Citrussy, spicy and wheaty flavour, quite nice. Very refreshing, low bitterness. |

829 | Herslev Økologisk Juleøl | Denmark | Belgian Ale | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. Brew #384. ABV is 6%. Dark brown colour, slightly hazy, big cream-coloured head. Nice aroma of Christmas spices and caramel malts, hints of oranges. Rather light bodied for a 6% beer. The flavour is somewhat acidic and citrussy, notes of Christmas spices, not much sweetness, very moderate hops. Drinkable, but far from the best Christmas beer I’ve had. |

831 | Jacobs Jule Ale 2009 | Denmark | Belgian Ale | 3.8
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, 2010 vintage, bottle No. 25823, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 6.5%. I don't think there has been a recipe change from 2009, the commercial description is basically the same. Mahogany colored beer, large and lasting beige head. Sweetish malty aroma, notes of caramel and molasses, just a hint of orange peel. The well balanced flavour is also malty but not too sweet, moderate notes of caramel and treacle, also hints of mild spices and orange peel, moderate but sufficient hops. Quite enjoyable. |

834 | Struise Nieuwpoortse Roste Jeanne | Belgium | Belgian Ale | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, as Struise Nieuwpoortse Roste Jeanne, from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. ABV is 7%. Brewed for the Heksenfeesten (Witch Fest) in Nieuwpoort, July 2010. Amber colour, clear first, cloudy brown in the end. Huge off-white head with an orangey hue. Moderate aroma of brown kandij sugar, caramel and spices. The medium sweet flavour has moderate malts, caramel, brown kandij sugar and mild spices, "dusty" and slightly metallic hops in the finish. The mouthfeel could have been richer. |

835 | Svaneke Jule Spektakel | Denmark | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 At Copenhagen Beer Festival. After reading the commercial description, my expectations were high, but the beer did not quite live up to them. Reddish brown colur, but paler than expected. Moderate malty aroma, some caramel. Did not get much of the promised complexity. The flavour has some malts and caramel, a little fruit, a little spiciness - but too little of everything. Drinkable of course, but I want something better than this for the Yuletide. |

836 | dEcaussinnes Ultra Delice | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.3
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Sample from bottle, Copenhagen Beer Festival. Amber colour, some chill haze. Sweetish and spicy aroma. The flavour is not quite as sweet and spicy as expected, and the beer is fairly drinkable. Maybe not my favourite beer for daily indulgence, but a nice change-of-pace beer. Will buy again when I can find it. |

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 330 ml bottle, as DDB Boskeun Speciaal Paasbier, from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. ABV is 10%. The glass fills completely by white foam, and the golden beer underneath appears only very slowly. Strong aroma of Belgian ale yeast, with fruity and spicy notes, also notes of white kandij sugar syrup and alcohol. Sweet flavour, with spicy, fruity and yeasty notes. The alcohol is noticeable, but not dominant. Peppery aftertaste. |

841 | Avery The Beast Grand Cru | United States | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Shared bottle at local tasting, thanks to gunnar. Batch 6 2008, 16,31% ABV. Hazy dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Intense aroma and flavour of malts, molasses and alcohol. Simply too much of the good stuff - there’s no way I could have finished a bottle of this beer on my own. |

Spicy aroma. Moderately spicy flavour. Decent and drinkable, but a bit too far out on the "light" end of what is acceptable for a Christmas brew. |

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.5%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Big tan head. Weird and unpleasant sweetish aroma, strong notes of cough syrup, anise and tobacco. Not a winner by me. |

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 750 ml "champagne" bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.39%. Amber to brown hazy colour, big to moderate white (or slightly off-white) head. Fairly nice moderate aroma, some funky and fruity notes, also notes of dust and damp basement. The flavour is moderately funky and fairly alcoholic, medium bitter hops in the finish. Not bad, but from Mikkeller you expect something better than this. |
