500 ml can, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.5%. Copper coloured beer, moderate off-white head. The aroma has some caramel and toffee. Light bodied. The flavour has caramel (with being overly sweet), a hint of spices and a dusty finish. Drinkable, but not remarkable.

330 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.5%. Copper to amber colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma, some fruit, grass and caramel. The flavour is at least more malty than the Especial, a little fruit and caramel again, but is otherwise rather bland and boring, with minimal hops.

7030 Meantime Union United Kingdom Vienna / Amber Lager 3.4

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Vika. ABV is 4.9%. Amber colour, large head, slightly off-white. Strong sweetish aroma of malts and stale orange marmalade. The flavour is not too sweet, biscuity and hoppy notes, hints of caramel and some fruit. Not too bad, but I think Meantime preferably should stick to ales.

330 ml can, at Etika, Torshavn. ABV is 5.8%. Red colour, moderate beige head. Nice hoppy aroma (American hops?), hints of orange marmalade. The flavour has moderate but pleasant American hops throughout. A nice surprise from Okkara!

500 ml bottle, ABV is 5.5%. Might be imported to Norway. Amber colour, big head, slightly off-white. Strong aroma of butterscotch and caramel. Fresh and soft mouthfeel, just the right carbonation in the glass. The flavour has also butterscotch (too much) and caramel. Some hops in the finish.

330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 5.8%. Chestnut coloured beer, moderate off-white head. 7040 De 5 Gaarde Juliane Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, bought at Superbrugsen, Skødstrup. ABV is 4.9%. Ingredients include "burnt sugar". Amber to copper colour, moderate off-white head. Very moderate aroma, just a hint of caramel. Lagerish flavour, like a Danish Classic with a little extra caramel, but the beer is not very sweet. Quite okay to drink though.

7041 Randers Classic Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.2

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, from Superbrugsen, Skødstrup. ABV is 6.0%. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Hazy deep golden colour, big white head. Aroma of herbal and grassy hops, hints of caramel malts. The flavour is maltier, a little sweeter and a bit more alcoholic than a standard Danish Classic, more like a Maibock. Noticeable hops throughout. Not too bad.

7042 Okkara Klassik Faroe Islands Vienna / Amber Lager 2.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4

On tap at the Faroe Islands tent at the ONS fair, Stavanger. Served too cold for a Classic, but I fear a slightly higher temperature would not have helped much. Brown colour, moderate creamy white head. The aroma has notes of grassy hops, hints of caramel. Bland flavour, dry and "dusty", just a hint of caramel but not very sweet. Very moderate hops in the finish.

330 ml bottle, a gift. ABV is 5.8%. Deep golden to amber colour, moderate white head. Decent aroma of grassy and herbal hops (Hallertauer), hints of syrup and caramel. Refreshing flavour with a moderate malty sweetness and decent Hallertauer hops throughout. Much better than I feared.

7045 Carlsberg Carls Lager Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.0

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Bottles, bought in Denmark. Historically interesting recipe, but this is not a beer I'd choose for daily consumption. Rerate: I generally like Münchener dunkels (which is what Carls Lager is supposed to be), but this one is too bland, despite some caramel in aroma and flavour. Would profit on a higher ABV.

7046 Carlsberg Carls Påske Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Bottles, bought in Denmark. An acceptable reddish amber Easter brew, some caramel in aroma and flavour. Rerate: Fairly bland beer compared to the stronger Carlsberg Påskebryg 1847.

7047 Arendals Sørlands Juleøl Norway Vienna / Amber Lager 3.0

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

330 ml bottle, from Joker Madlatuå. ABV is 4.5%. Amber to copper color, moderate head, slightly off-white. The aroma has sugary (candy, caramel) and grassy notes, not particularly good. The flavour is moderately sweet with notes of caramel, drinkable when cold, but won’t be my choice for the Yuletide.

7048 Albani HC Andersen 1805 Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.2

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

330 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. Reddish brown colour, good lingering head and lacing. Very moderate aroma and flavour of malts and some caramel, pretty much on the soft and bland side but not offensive. Minimal bitterness, but not very sweet either. Easy drinking. No masterpiece, but not as bad as I feared.

7049 Fuglsang Fonix Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml can. This "all malt beer" has ascorbic acid (E300, = vitamin C) added as an antioxidant, but is UNFILTERED, which is a rare thing with Danish commercial breweries. Deep golden colour, slightly hazy. Large fluffy head that doesn’t last very long. Moderate but pleasant hoppy aroma. Malty flavour with decent hops - at least it’s better than many other Danish lagers.

7050 Berentsens Rogalands Juleøl 4,7% Norway Vienna / Amber Lager 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

From 2005 brewed at Berentsens Brygghus' own facilities in Egersund. My comments while it was still contract brewed by Aass Bryggeri in Drammen: (330 ml bottle). Deep copper brown colour, darker than most Norwegian "klasse D" grocery store juleøl (Christmas/Yule beers), moderate head. Malty aroma. Clean malty flavour, not too sweet, thin mouthfeel as expected, not very complex. OKish.
