6677 | Lagunitas Censored (Kronik) | United States | Strong Ale | 3.3
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7 355 ml bottle, as Lagunitas The Censored Rich Copper Ale, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. ABV not mentioned on the label. Amber to copper colour, moderate off-white head. Fairly nice aroma of caramel and fruity hops, hints of old orange marmalade. The medium sweet flavour has also notes of caramel and a little fruit, but lacks hops and "freshness". Drinkable, but I expected more from Lagunitas. |

6678 | BrewDog Hops Kill ? Imperial Red Ale | United Kingdom | Strong Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 330 ml bottle, as BrewDog Hops Kill ? Imperial Red Ale, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 7.8%. Mahogany coloured beer, moderate but creamy off-white head. Lovely aroma of fruity hops, notes of crushed gooseberries, citrus and tropical fruits, hints of herbs. The flavour is distinctly hoppy throughout, with fruity and piney notes, bitter but not too much. There is also a sufficient malty sweetness to balance the hops. This is one of BrewDog’s better beers. |

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 On tap at HaandBryggeriet Beer Festival, Drammen. Deep orange to red colour, low head. Strong aroma of peat smoke and juniper smoke. The flavour is dominated by peat smoke and juniper smoke throughout. One-dimensional, not my cup of tea. |

6683 | Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA | United States | Strong Ale | 3.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. Orange to amber colour, low off-white head. Extreme and intense aroma of American hops, on a background of sweet malts. Sweet flavour, too sweet maybe, the sweetness kind of overwhelms the intense hoppiness. Still, this is a top division beer. |

6684 | Port Brewing Shark Attack Double Red Ale | United States | Strong Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 1 pt. 6 fl. oz. bottle, as Port Brewing Shark Attack Double Red Ale, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.0%. Hazy reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head with an orangey hue. Lovely and complex aroma of fruity and piney American hops, on a sweetish background of crystal malts. The flavour is medium sweet with plenty of crystal malts, and loads of resinous and grapefruity hops. The bitterness in the finish is substantial, but not too extreme. Good stuff. |

6685 | Bøgedal No. 219 | Denmark | Strong Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 750 ml corked bottle, as Bøgedal No. 219, from Vinmonopolet Vika, shared with beerpals. ABV was 7.0%. Hops are Perle, Cascade and Celeia (not Centennial and Northern Brewer), so I really think the 219 ought to be listed as a separate beer. Hazy orange-brown colour, large and fluffy head. Fruity, hoppy and herbal aroma. Medium sweet flavour, balanced by distinct hops. |

6693 | Carlsberg Semper Ardens Christmas Ale | Denmark | Strong Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 (700 ml bottle, bought in Denmark). Murky brown colour, large tan head. Surprisingly weak initial aroma - Hallertauer with faint notes of malts, spices and brown sugar. Improves a bit as the beer warms up. Flavour is much stronger, fuller and richer - but unfortunately also too sweet. Spices (coriander, aniseed, cardamom and more?), molasses and plenty of malts. The brewers have obviously used far too much brown sugar. They have also missed the target completely with their choice of hops - Hallertauer Mittelfrüh in a strong Belgian ale, WTF? I’m not a hops expert, but this beer obviously needs hops with more character, and in larger quantities. And PLEASE, less sugar to get rid of that syrupy mouthfeel!! Acceptable as a dessert beer, but not with the main Christmas meal. Incredibly, Carlsberg claim (on the rear label) that this beer has a "DRY(!!) and light ACIDIC structure". Who wrote that? Winnie the Pooh? Better luck next year, Carlsberg! |

6694 | Nøgne Ø God Jul (Winter Ale) | Norway | Strong Ale | 4.5
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 Rerate 2004, 500 ml bottle conditioned: Recipe has been changed this year. The beer is now much darker, nearly black. Good tan head. Complex aroma and flavour, a distinct roastiness but also spices and leather. Full rich flavour, bitter aftertaste - this is a damn good beer!! Rating 2003: (500 ml bottle). Christmas/Yule ale from Norway’s sole uncompromising micro brewery. Only 5000 bottles made. Bottle conditioned. Deep copper colour, hazy only when yeast is poured. Moderate head. Aroma of oak, leather, caramel and spices. Flavour is malty and spicy, alcohol is evident. Drier than I expected. Good bitterness. A good beer, but after all the good things I’ve heard about it, I expected even more. |

6695 | Kopparbergs Special Brew X-Strong 7.5% | Sweden | Strong Lager | 1.1
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 2 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 2 (500 ml can). Golden colour, moderate head. Sickly sweetish chemical aroma, flavour dominated by a revolting alcoholic sweetness. Not good. Rerate: I started writing before I had finished the beer. As it turned out, I was unable to finish the glass. That very rarely happens to me. Congratulations, Kopparbergs! |

6696 | Carlsberg Elephant Beer | Denmark | Strong Lager | 3.3
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 A strong lager with an aquired taste. Not bad! - at least better than its reputation. Great accompaniment with a Danish "sildemad". I've had this one mainly from can or fresh bottles in Denmark, thus avoiding the skunkiness some of our American friends report of. Rerate German brewed version, (brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot), ABV 7.5%: The extra 0.3% alcohol certainly doesn't bring anything good to the beer. 7.2% is plenty for a beer with a body as light as this. Stick to the Danish original! |

6698 | Jihlavsky Grand 18% | Czech Republic | Strong Lager | 3.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, bought at Pivni Galerie, Prague. ABV is 8.0%. Golden colour, moderate head. Nice hoppy aroma, notes of caramel and berries. Flavour is hoppy (plenty of Saaz and probably other hops too) and moderately alcoholic (as expected from an 8% beer), but malty enough to sustain the hops and alcohol. Moderate sweetness throughout. Way ahead of most other high ABV golden lagers I’ve tasted. |

6700 | Thor Fregatten Jylland | Denmark | Strong Lager | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 This beer is named after the Danish 19th century sail frigate "Jylland", now a Jutlandian tourist attraction. The beer, however, will hardly qualify as a tourist attraction. Golden to amber colour, moderate alcoholic aroma, alcoholic and slightly sweet flavour, moderate to low bitterness in the aftertaste. Not unpleasant, but far from great. |
