Slightly sweet flavour, yeasty and fruity, hints of grain and rice, somewhat better than the aroma. Moderate bitterness in the finish. Heaven knows what makes this a "saison".

Very sour (too sour) flavour, notes of lemons and other sour fruits, loads of lactic acid, hints of oak and mild spices, minimal hops.

Pleasant, interesting and complex aroma: notes of brettanomyces / farmhouse, dry white wine, mild spices, vanilla, hints of yellow plums and tropical fruits. Crisp and dry flavour, oak, vanilla, oaked and dry white wine, a slight acidity, mild spices, moderate but noticeable bittering hops.

330 ml can, batch #197, from Coop Mega Madla Handelslag. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy pale golden colour, moderate white head. Nice aroma of kveik (Norwegian farmhouse yeast), notes of ripe and over-ripe yellow plums, sultanas, hay and a hint of oatmeal. The flavour is moderately citric, hints of yellow plums again with a moderate fruity acidity, the bitterness is very low and the finish short.

330 ml bottle, BB date yesterday. ABV is 6.1%. Hazy brownish-orange colour, moderate white head. Strong aroma of brettanomyces / farmhouse, solvent, lemons and vinegar. Medium sour flavour, notes of oak, oaked wine, over-ripe lemons and red wine vinegar. Medium bitter finish. Not quite my cup of tea.

500 ml bottle, batch #888, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.5%. Very pale yellow colour, slightly hazy. Pours fizzy with a large white head. The aroma is distinctly hoppy with fruity notes and a catty hint, also pleasant and mild spicy notes, a hint of farmhouse. The flavour is medium dry and crisp, again with mild spicy / peppery notes, also fruity hops. Medium bitter aftertaste.

Rerate, 330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.8%. Pale yellow colour, slightly hazy. Small white head of poor retention. Aroma of spicy saison yeast, also citrus rind and various spices. Citric mouthfeel, light bodied. The flavour has citrus and various spices. Nice to drink. A slight spicy burn in the aftertaste. Original rating: 750 ml corked and waxed bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. Probably 2 y.o. when consumed. ABV is 5.8%. Golden colour, lightly hazy. White head goes rapidly from moderate to none. Aroma of saison yeast, but also less pleasant notes of over-ripe and decaying fruits, moldy wet grain, compost and solvent. Fairly refreshing flavour, medium dry, a little fruit, not very complex but nice enough to drink. Less spicy than expected. Might sample again from a fresher bottle, hopefully the aroma will be better then.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6%. Gusher can, overcarbonated. Deep red colour, large pink head. Distinct aroma of blackberries and cherries, hints of lactic acid. The mouthfeel is fizzy and a bit watery. Moderately sour flavour of cherries and blackberries, low bitterness.

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.0%. Hazy pale golden colour, huge white head. Distinct and unusual spicy / peppery aroma, also floral notes. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is indeed "bone dry", with loads of green peppercorns (= too much), overpowers the more subtle floral notes. Peppery and hoppy bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Not my favourite this one.

Aroma of oxidised old jam, Belgian ale yeast, white kandij sugar syrup and mild spices. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, the alcohol is noticeable. Moderate hops in the finish.

Distinct sweetish aroma of spicy saison yeast, wheat (or more specifically spelt) malt and grassy hops. Also hints of old jam. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is medium sweet (not "very dry" at all) with the same elements as the aroma. Not bad, but a bit too much on the sweet side.

Lovely aroma of saison yeast and brett, with fruity and peppery notes, hints of farmhouse. Medium sweet but still quite crisp flavour with peppery notes, distinct bittering hops.

Shared 330 ml bottle at local tasting, as Ebeltoft Saison French Farmhouse Ale. ABV is 6.0%. Clear pale golden colour, white head. Moderate but pleasant aroma of mild spices and herbs, both from the hops and the yeast. Pleasant dry flavour, again spicy and herbal notes.

Shared 500 ml unlabelled bottle. Hazy golden colour, white head. Nice grassy and spicy aroma, hints of heather honey. Strange flavour, notes of spices, heather honey and sea buckthorn berries in the finish.

Aroma of lime (and other citrus fruits) and mango, only a hint of coconut and oak. Moderately sour and fruity flavour with distinct notes of lime and other citrus fruits, hints of mango, coconut and oak. Nice and refreshing beer.

Strong and pleasant spicy and yeasty aroma. The crisp flavour has also distinct spicy and "Belgian" yeasty notes, with a substantial hoppy "bite" in the finish.

Attractive fruity aroma, notes of citrus, gooseberries and tropical fruits, some piney hints too. The flavour is medium sweet and fruity, notes of saison yeast, distinct hops in the finish. Bitter, peppery and dry aftertaste.

Lovely aroma of Nelson Sauvin hops, with notes of gooseberries, white grapes and tropical fruits, also a hint of pine. The flavour is medium sweet and very fruity, Nelson Sauvin elements dominate, but the beer is not too bitter. The Belgian / French saison yeast is more subdued. A fine and very drinkable beer!

Shared 750(?) ml corked bottle at local tasting, vintage 2007, bought at Ølbutikken or Høkeren, Copenhagen, May 2011. Ale aged in oak barrels, ABV is 9.5%. Clear orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma of brettanomyces, sour fruits and apple cider vinegar. Medium sour flavour, brettanomyces galore, woody finish, decent hops. Interesting and unusual.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.3%. Golden colour, large white head. Lovely fruity and spicy aroma, notes of orange peel, coriander and pepper. The flavour is fresh and pleasant, with distinct citrussy and peppery notes, but I expected more bittering hops in the finish. Still a nice beer that stands out from the crowd. I don’t think the red peppercorns are too dominant.

600 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Very pale yellow colour, large white head. Pleasant and distinct aroma of spicy / peppery saison yeast. The medium dry flavour has also plenty of peppery saison yeast and bittering hops, but little body to support it. Nice to drink though.

Lovely aroma of farmhouse kitchen and dry white wine, also hints of tropical fruits. The flavour is medium sweet, maybe not quite as fresh as it ought to be, but still very good. Fruity / citrussy and mildly spicy notes. Enjoyable, will buy again, and sample when fresher.
