580 | Dark Star American Pale Ale | United Kingdom | American Pale Ale | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 Nov. 2016: 330 ml can, as Dark Star APA, from Ales by Mail. ABV is 4.7%. Overcarbonated, slightly gushing can, the glass fills completely by white foam. When the beer appears underneath, it is pale golden. The huge head lasts "forever". Strong and pleasant aroma of fruity and piney American hops. Distinctly hoppy flavour on a moderately sweet base, tropical fruits, grapefruit, pine needles and resin. Bitter finish. |

582 | Nøisom Bonfire Blonde Pale Ale | Norway | American Pale Ale | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 June 2017: 500 ml bottle, from a grocery store. ABV is 4.7%, 36 IBU. The bottle was not gushing, but when pouring the glass fills completely with white foam, and a pale yellow beer (slightly hazy) appears only very slowly underneath. Ridiculously overcarbonated! Aroma of moderately spicy yeast, some piney notes too. The dry flavour is piney with a faint hint of smoke. Won’t buy again. |

583 | Nøisom Cascadian APA 4.7% | Norway | American Pale Ale | 2.9
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Nov. 2013: Shared 2 liter bottle / jug, at Mandag i Annen at Cardnal (so far not in ordinary sale there). ABV is 4.7%. Aroma and flavour more like a standard English bitter or golden ale, rather than an APA. Nothing wrong with it, but fairly bland and uninteresting. |

591 | Ægir Harvest Ale | Norway | American Pale Ale | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 On tap at Ølmessen Nærbø, and Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.0%. Amber coloured beer, low head. Aroma of moderate fruity American hops - on the second tasting I also found aroma elements of Belgian saison yeast, maybe just my imagination, because I was misinformed about the yeast used here (no saison yeast has actually been used, only Ægir’s normal California ale yeast). The flavour is distinctly hoppy throughout (American hops again, Columbus if I remember correctly), but there are also some faint hints of farmhouse. A quite nice autumn beer. |

593 | St. Austell Proper Job | United Kingdom | American Pale Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. Bottle conditioned, ABV is 5.5%. Called an "IPA" by the brewery. Clear golden colour, big white head. Pleasant aroma of fruity American hops, notes of pineapple and other tropical fruits, also some citrus. The flavour has a substantial sweetness, malty and sugary notes, partly balanced by a noticeable hoppy bitterness, which becomes piney and resinous in the finish, slightly metallic in the aftertaste. |

595 | Grauballe Orange Blossom | Denmark | American Pale Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, now available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6.0%. Ingredients include 2% orange flower honey, E223 and E300. Golden brown colour, big light tan head with an orangey hue. Unusual and initially interesting aroma of orange peel, spices, oak, fermenting fruits and apple cider vinegar, then some less pleasant "industrial" and sulphurous notes take over. The flavour has caramel and some honey sweetness, with notes of orange peel and undefined fruits. Very little bitterness. Props to Grauballe for brewing unusual beers, but this one doesn't blow my socks off. |

596 | Dalane Brygghus Sommerøl | Norway | American Pale Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, at Gladmatfestivalen 2008, Stavanger (where it also was available on tap). Served too cold. Unlike other Norwegian "sommerøl", which are crappy pale lagers, this one is an ale of respectable quality. Ingredients include some wheat malts. Orange colour, hazy, with a thick and lasting head. Nice hoppy aroma and flavour, fruity / citrussy notes, maybe some spruce too. Refreshing and very good. |

600 | Flying Dog Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale | United States | American Pale Ale | 4.3
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 12 fl. oz. bottle, bought at the GBBF 2008 for takeaway. ABV is 5.5%, IBU 35. Deep amber to orange colour, decent off-white head with an orangey hue. Very nice aroma of Cascade hops, notes of citrus and honey. The flavour is also dominated by Cascade hops, but there is a sufficient malty base to balance the hops. Moderately bitter aftertaste. American Pale Ale is an underrated style IMO, this is an example. Great balance is more interesting for me than "hop monsters". Good beer! |
