5453 | Hønefoss Brygghus Helt Konge | Sweden | Pale Lager | 2.5
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 5 330 ml bottle, thanks to OleR. Brewed for Hønefoss Brygghus, Norway, by Krönleins Bryggeri, Sweden. ABV is 4.7%. One has to accept that Hønefoss Brygghus is another "brewhouse" that does not brew (the slogan "Drink locally" is thus ridiculous) , but why on earth do they commission a pale lager in the Norwegian style "sommerøl", contract brewed by mediocre Krönleins? Norwegian macro breweries have plenty of boring "sommerøl", there is absolutely no need for another one. HB’s Juleøl (a stout brewed by Det Lille Bryggeriet) was decent, this one is not undrinkable, but certainly no masterpiece. The recommendation on the label "To be drunk ice cold" gives you some idea about what to expect. Deep golden colour, much darker than other "sommerøl", moderate white head. Sweetish unpleasant aroma, typical Swedish macro. Notes of artificial candy and rotting vegetables. The flavour is fortunately much better than the aroma, some moderate malts and hops are around, and the beer is not too sweet. |

5454 | Finnfestøl | Belgium | Pale Lager | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. No GTIN code on the label, but the "Finnfest" commander general confirms that it is brewed by Van Steenberge. ABV is 4.5%. Ingredients include sugar. Clear pale golden colour, huge white head, no traces of sediment in the bottle. Sweetish "pale lager" aroma, notes of grass, some fruit and yeast. The flavour is moderately sweet with a somewhat sharp hoppy "bite" in the finish. Not a remarkably good beer, but drinkable. |

5457 | Grans Lade Gaards Brygghus Pilsner | Norway | Pale Lager | 1.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 3 500 ml retro-style bottle, from REMA 1000. ABV is 4.7%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of cooked vegetables, hints of pilsener malts, honey and flowers. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour had some sweetish and "dusty" malts, hints of wet cardboard, unpleasant citric and slightly metallic finish. Hardly any bitterness. Utterly bland and boring, most of it went down the sink. Not a beer I’ll buy again - ever. An insult to any lover of fine beer. |

5458 | Tuborg Lime Cut | Norway | Pale Lager | 1.3
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 2 330 ml clear bottle with a tear-off cap (thought those went out of fashion in the 70s?). Distributed (and probably brewed) by Ringnes (Carlsberg) for the Norwegian market. ABV is 4.5%. Extremely pale and crystal clear yellow colour, big to moderate white head. Weak aroma with hints of pilsener malts and artificial lime flavouring. Sweetish sugary flavour with notes of artificial "lime" again - and nothing else. No bitterness, nor any other indications that this actually is a beer. Jeezes - what a worthless "beer"! I’d rather have a glass of mineral water with a twist of real lime. Ringnes/Carlsberg have once again shown us that Tuborg is chosen as their bog standard brand in Norway. |

Aroma of butter / butterscotch (diacetyl), hints of citrus. The flavour is moderately citric with hints of butter, moderate "dusty" hops in the finish. Not as bad as I feared. |

5460 | Utenos | Lithuania | Pale Lager | 3.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 5%. Pale golden colour, large head. Moderate sweetish aroma with notes of pale lager wort, hints of maize (corn) too, some fruity aromatic hops. Moderate carbonation in the glass, soft mouthfeel. The flavour has some malty sweetness and tolerable hops in the finish. Not too bad for a standard pale lager, but I preferred their Pilsener. |

5461 | Mack Fluid Fine Lager Beer | Norway | Pale Lager | 2.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 330 ml slimline can. ABV is 4.7%. Brewed with ecological (organic) ingredients. Crystal clear pale yellow beer with big bubbles and a decent white head. Sweetish aroma, fruity first, then only some maize and grain notes remain. Fizzy mouthfeel. Sweetish and sugary flavour, some malty notes, minimal bitterness. Drinkable, but far from interesting, and over-priced. |

5468 | Fredrikstad Sommerøl | Norway | Pale Lager | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 330 ml clear bottle, thanks to yngwie! ABV is 4.7%. Pale golden colour, large head. Aroma of pilsener malts and boiled vegetables. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has, unlike most Norwegian "Sommerøl", actually traces of both malts and hops, with a moderate sweetness. Not a great beer, but better than I feared. |

5470 | Møllebyen Kong Carl | Norway | Pale Lager | 2.5
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 On tap at the brewpub, the ABV was said to be 4.3%. Is this really supposed to be a kölsch, or is it a pale lager? A "summer beer" ? - well, we had it on the 4th of January! Very pale golden colour, low head. Pleasant aroma of butterscotch (diacetyl). Notes of butterscotch in the flavour too, but very (too) light bodied, without sufficient hops. I had most of the beer with my burger and sweet chili sauce - the beer was definitely no match for the meal. |

5471 | Rubbel Sexy Lager | Belgium | Pale Lager | 2.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4 330 ml bottle, daft label replete with bikini-clad girl to rub. ABV is 5.0%. Courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pale golden colour, large to moderate lasting head. Moderate carbonation in the glass. Sweetish aroma, notes of candy. Sweetish pale lager flavour with some lemony notes. Very moderate hops, but there’s a slightly metallic bitterness in the aftertaste. You may think the label is sexy, but the beer is not. |

5472 | Classe Royale | Netherlands | Pale Lager | 1.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 3 330 ml can, thanks to KnutAlbert. ABV is 5.0%. Ingredients include maize (corn). "Brewed and canned in the EU under licence of and distributed by Bierbrouwerij de Vriedenkring, Breda Holland." Pale golden colour, large and lasting head. Moderate sweetish and fruity aroma. Boring industrial pale lager flavour, notes of artificial sweetener. Minimal hops. Bad beer. |

5473 | Saku Kuld Export | Estonia | Pale Lager | 2.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 500 ml can, thanks to KnutAlbert. ABV is 4.5%. Normally the "export" version of a beer is stronger than the "ordinary" version, but in this case it is weaker! Crystal clear very pale golden colour, big white head. Moderate fruity aroma, citrus and candy. Light bodied, thin mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet and sugary, with minimal hops. Not much to write home about here - nor to export. |

5474 | Grusomme Lervig Pilsner | Norway | Pale Lager | 1.8
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 500 ml black can. When we hope for a black beer inside, we get just another pilsener / pale lager! Crystal clear very pale yellow colour, large to low head. Strong and sweetish industrial pale lager aroma with notes of artificial candy and maize. The flavour is bland and sweetish, with a slight hoppy bitterness in the finish. I am amazed that Lervig can’t make a better show of it. With this crappy effort from the brewers, even Stavanger local patriotism can’t keep the Lervig brewery alive in the long run. Shame on you! |

5475 | Mack Afterski Winter Party Beer | Norway | Pale Lager | 2.3
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 500 ml can. ABV is 4.7%. Golden colour, fluffy white head. Very vague and weak sweetish aroma, hints of maize, also a hint of caramel as the beer warms up. The flavour is way too sugary and sweet, but at least there is some maltiness too, so unlike "smrprty" it is not void of flavour. Fizzy mouthfeel, minimal bitterness. |
