The flavour is nice and smooth, with mild roasty notes, some lactose (but not too sweet), hints of mild coffee and chocolate. Pleasant and easy to drink. Might well buy again.

1 US pint can, from Bestofbeers, Denmark. ABV is 7.0%. Black colour, huge tan head. Aroma of roast malts and lactose, also notes of chocolate. Fizzy mouthfeel. Medium sweet flavour of roast malts, lactose, coffee and dark chocolate.

Cask halfpint at the Argyll Arms. Black colour, minimal beige head. Nice aroma of chocolate, hints of mild coffee. Smooth mouthfeel. Smooth flavour too, some lactic sweetness, but not too much. Chocolate and mild coffee again, moderate hops in the finish.

Cask 1/3 pint at the Adnams bar, 46th Cambridge Beer Festival, 2019. ABV 5.0%. Black colour, tan head. Aroma and flavour of coconut, marshmallow, lactose and oak, but fortunately not too sweet.

330 ml can, as Amundsen Super Santa Choco Shake Stout, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.7%. Black colour, moderate beige head, Sweetish aroma of vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon and lactose. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma made me fear, but has otherwise the same elements as the aroma. Moderate hops in the finish.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.5%. Black colour, moderate to small tan head. Distinct sweetish aroma of lactose, vanilla, marshmallows, cocoa / chocolate, caramel. Sweet flavour (but not quite as sickly sweet as I feared), with the same elements as the aroma. Minimal hops. Not bad at all, but hardly a beer I'll bother to buy again.

330 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 5.5%. Brewed with coffee, lactose and vanilla beans. Black colour, small tan head. Aroma of roast malts, coffee and dark chocolate, only hints of vanilla and lactose. The flavour is mid between dry and sweet, again roast malts and distinct coffee. some dark chocolate, hints of vanilla and lactose, moderate hops.

355 ml can, from Vinoble Frederikshavn. ABV is 5.5%. Nearly black colour, not much of a nitrogen pour, small beige head. Aroma of moderately roasted malts, lactose, chocolate and mild coffee. Soft mouthfeel. Roasty flavour, notes of coffee and dark chocolate, a slight lactose sweetness, medium bitter finish.

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Black colour, creamy head. Aroma and flavour of caramel and too much butterscotch, more than the usual roasty coffee notes. A bit disappointing.

Shared bottle, at local tasting. ABV 7.5%. Black colour, large beige head. Typical American IPA aroma, piney and resinous notes, hints of catpiss. Moderate coffee notes. Roasty flavour, strong coffee notes, also plenty of resinous hops.

Sampled bottle, RBNAG 2007 in Grimstad. ABV was 7.0%. Dark brown colour. Sweetish malty and lactic aroma and flavour, mild roasty notes. A classic oatmeal stout, but stronger than most of them.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7%. Black colour, large to moderate tan head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, chocolate and mild coffee. Smooth mouthfeel and flavour. The flavour is not too sweet, and has the same elements as the aroma. Also hints of oatmeal, prunes and burnt breadcrumbs. Moderate but noticeable bittering hops. Very good beer, will buy again.

May 2017: 330 ml can, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 5.1%, IBU 30. Black colour, moderate beige head. Moderate roasty aroma, notes of cold coffee, hints of chocolate and cocoa. A moderate roastiness in the soft flavour, mid between sweet and dry. Hints of mild coffee and chocolate. Decent and definitely drinkable, but hardly a masterpiece.

500 ml bottle, as Trollbryggeriet Slogen Outmeal Stout (typo?), from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.7%. Black colour, large to moderate creamy tan head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, oatmeal, chocolate and mild coffee. Smooth flavour with the same elements, noticeable bittering hops in the aftertaste. The best beer I've had from Trollbryggeriet so far.

Black colour, minimal tan head. Aroma of oats, chocolate and mild coffee. Smooth flavour, oats, coffee and chocolate again, also liquorice.

The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, mid between dry and sweet, a hint of oatmeal, moderate bittering hops.

Cask conditioned. Sampled at the Wear Valley CAMRA beer festival. (Room temperature). Pitch black. Low (natural) carbonation. Lovely aroma, smooth roast malt and coffee flavour, with some acid side notes that I'm not entirely happy about.

(500 ml bottle). Norwegian micro oatmeal stout. Black (= very dark ruby) colour, some sediment, good head. Nice aroma of roasted malts with some coffee, dark chocolate and cigar box. Mellow, smooth and pleasant flavour, can't detect the oats, some roastedness, hints of coffee. Easy drinking. Aftertaste is OK, but I'd like some more hops. Rerate: I should add that there also is a moderate but noticeable smokiness.

Cask at the Ipswich Beer Festival 2004, gravity dispense. Colour is black / dark ruby. Lovely aroma of dark fruits / prunes, English pipe tobacco, chocolate and coffee. Flavour is roast barley and oats on a surprisingly fruity background. Very drinkable. Fruity aftertaste - not what you expect from a stout, but nice! (And the beer is vegan - as if I cared!)

500 ml bottle, bought at Vinens Verden, Odense, Denmark. Black (= very dark ruby) colour, good tan head. Pleasant aroma: chocolate, roasted barley, coffee, prunes, leather. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, faintly acidic. Mellow flavour of roasted barley / dark malts, low bitterness. Not too much going on flavourwise, does not quite live up to the expectations the aroma creates.

Bottle served at the BC Beer Café in Helsinki. Beer is pitch black (okay, VERY dark brown), low to no head. There's some irritating carbonation that pricks on the tongue - if given the choice, I would most likely prefer some nitrogen in a beer of this style (I know that many of you will disagree with me on that!) Moderate roast aroma, the rounded flavour has some coffee notes with a strong oatmeal presence, hardly any bitterness to match the sweetness. Porridge aftertaste. Very filling - I had it 1 hour after a solid breakfast, and it was like having another full meal ("liquid oatmeal porridge"). Of course it's not a bad beer, but as my expectations were sky high, you'll have to forgive me for being a bit disappointed.

(500 ml bottle). Pours with a large to moderate frothy head. Very dark brown colour. Moderate but pleasant aroma of cherry chocolates and coffee. Decent sweetish flavour of roasted malts, oats, coffee and dark chocolates, some fruityness too. Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin for an oatmeal stout. A bit too carbonated for my taste. Acceptable bitterness from the hops and roasted malts in the aftertaste.

550 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. Nearly black (= very dark brown with a reddish hue) colour, thick tan head. Moderate roasty aroma, notes of coffee and chocolate. Strong roasty flavour with coffee and bitter chocolate elements, dry roasty finish. Clearly a good beer.

On tap at The Rover, Göteborg. Black colour, creamy tan head. This oatmeal stout has a moderate but pleasant roasty aroma, notes of dark chocolate. Flavour is slightly sourish with very subdued coffee and chocolate notes.
