Cask pint at The Archibald Simpson, Aberdeen. Dark ruby colour, nearly black. Off-white to beige creamy head, nice lacing. Aroma of ripe dark fruits and blackcurrant leaves. Smooth mouthfeel. The flavour is fruity with hints of blackcurrants, mild roasty notes with hints of chocolate. Excellent beer, a strong dark mild in my book.

500 ml bottle, as Harvey's Dark Mild, from Seven Cellars. ABV is 2.8%. Mahogany colour, moderate to small off-white to beige head. Malty aroma, notes of brown bread, caramel and nuts. Slightly sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, hints of blackberries and blackcurrants, minimal hops.

500 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.3%. I've had clootie dumplings (the pudding, that is) the last couple Christmases, my family finds them more palatable than the traditional English Christmas puddings. But a beer tasting of clootie dumplings, hmm? Clear copper colour, moderate off-white head. Nice aroma of malts and mild Christmas spices. Flavour of malts, toffee and distinct Christmas spices, with an unexpectedly distinct and sharp hop bitterness in the finish. Might buy again for Christmas, or brew a homebrew similar to this.

Shared 500 ml bottle at local tasting. Reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of malts with hints of chocolate and mild coffee, also less pleasant notes of over-ripe berries and dust. Lightly roasty dry flavour, notes of brown bread, burnt breadcrumbs and mild coffee.

330 ml can, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 3.0%, IBU 16. Deep reddish brown colour, moderate beige head. Pleasant malty aroma, mild roasty notes, hints of chocolate and earthy hops. Refreshing flavour, with the same elements as the aroma, also notes of mild coffee and prunes.

Cask half pint at The Justice Mill (JDW), Aberdeen. I thought the ABV was 3.5%, but I might be mistaken. Brewed exclusively for JDW. Very dark brown colour, small beige head. Moderate fruity and malty aroma. Fruity flavour, smooth to drink, some liquorice in the background.

Dec. 2015: Cask pint at the Leyton Orient Supporters Club. Very dark ruby color, nearly black. Small beige head. Moderate malty aroma. Very nice malty / slightly roasty and fruity flavour, hints of mild coffee, chocolate and blackcurrants. A pleasant mild.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.3%. Very dark brown to black colour, moderate beige head. Aroma of mild malts, a hint of sourish berries. Soft mouthfeel. Pleasant flavour, notes of mild malts and liquorice, hints of chocolate, but not too sweet. Low bitterness as expected.

Oct. 2016: Cask 1/3 pint, gravity dispense, at the 16th Twickenham Beer & Cider Festival, Dark ruby / cola black colour, small beige head. Moderate roasty aroma, notes of mild coffee and dark chocolate. Pleasant and lively mouthfeel. Roasty flavour, coffee and dark chocolate again. Roasty aftertaste, some hops.

March 2014: Sample from bottle at hotel room tasting. ABV is 3.7%. Dark brown colour, moderate off-white head. Mild roasty notes in the aroma. Smooth and pleasant flavour, mild roasty notes, hints of mild coffee and chocolate, but not sweet. I could easily drink a few pints of this one. Will buy again.

Aug. 2014: 500 ml bottle, from Guernsey. ABV is 3.4%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Malty aroma, notes of caramel, hints of liquorice and black bread. Smooth mouthfeel. Malty flavour, but not too sweet. Notes of dark bread and Norwegian "Tomtebrygg". Pleasant to drink.

June 2019: Cask 1/3 pint at the 46th Cambridge Beer Festival, 2019. ABV 3.3%. Very dark reddish brown colour, beige head. Aroma of dust, grain and a hint of chocolate. Light bodied. The flavour has notes of chocolate with a decent fruitiness.

July 2017: Cask from the wood, halfpint, at the SPBW 1st National Woodfest, Castleford. Black colour, tan head. "Dusty" and dull aroma. Fairly light bodied. Mild roasty notes in the flavour, while a certain fruity acidity helps the drinkability.

March 2017: 330 ml bottle, at Malone’s Irish Bar, Aberdeen. Oatmeal milk stout, 4.7% ABV. Black colour, small beige head. Nice roasty aroma, notes of coffee and chocolate. The flavour is also roasty, with distinct notes of chocolate, vanilla and lactose, but not too sweet. Decent beer.

March 2019: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Black colour, minimal tan head. Aroma of roast malts, coffee, cocoa and lactose. The flavour has a slight fruitiness which makes it very drinkable, and has otherwise the same elements as the aroma. Not too sweet, moderate hops.

Rerate, 12 fl. oz. bottle, bought at the GBBF 2008 for takeaway (forgot that I had rated it previously). ABV was said to be 5.0%. Dark brown colour, nearly black, nice and lasting tan head. Notes of aroma: same as first time. The mouthfeel is rich and creamy. The flavour has still plenty of roasted malts and lactose sweetness, also notes of chocolate, mild coffee and some liquorice. Good stuff - I’m upping it a few points. Original rating: Sampled bottle, RBNAG 2007 in Grimstad. Dark brown to black colour. Nice roasty aroma, notes of cocoa, hints of liquorice. Moderately sweet flavour, plenty of maltiness (probably also lactose).

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Black colour. large tan head. Distinct aroma of chocolate / cocoa, caramel, vanilla and lactose, only a hint of cinnamon. The flavour is not too sweet, but has the same elements as the aroma, also some mild coffee notes and moderate bittering hops.
