Strong and typical American IPA aroma of caramelized orange marmalade, also notes of pine. Soft mouthfeel. Very hoppy flavour, also decent malts, but not too sweet. Very bitter finish, piney and resinous notes. Good stuff.

Lovely aroma of fruity (passion fruit) and resinous hops. The flavour is again fruity and resinous hops throughout, notes of tropical fruits, with a sufficient malty backbone. Excellent beer, very enjoyable.

Lovely aroma of fruity, piney and resinous American(?) hops. The flavour is very hoppy throughout, as expected - but never too extreme. Piney and resinous notes galore. Some malty sweetness, but not too much. Dry and bitter finish.

1 pt. 6 fl. oz. bottle, as Port Brewing High Tide Fresh Hop IPA, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Hazy golden colour, fairly pale for an American IPA. Big to moderate white head. Lovely aroma of floral and fruity hops (Centennial and Simcoe or Chinook) , notes of peaches and tropical fruits. The flavour is resinous and grapefruity, initially relatively smooth and inviting, but with an aggressive and nearly medicinal bitterness in the aftertaste. Relatively light bodied and dry.

355 ml bottle, from Voldby Kødmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is not mentioned on the label. Deep golden colour, big to moderate white head. Moderate aroma - malts, a little caramel, hints of orange marmalade. The flavour is moderately malty with hints of toffee and oranges, and is smooth and pleasant to drink - but the hoppiness is nowhere near an American IPA. Still, there are some hops in the finish, and the overall impression is a fairly well balanced premium bitter / ESB.

500 ml bottle, as Herslev Økologisk India Pale Ale, brew #396, from Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget. ABV is 6%. Deep golden colour, slightly hazy. Big and lasting white head. Very nice aroma of fruity hops (tropical fruits), also some piney notes. Plenty of carbonation in the mouth. Distinct hoppy flavour throughout, notes of pine, grapefruity bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Good beer!

Bottle conditioned, at Cardinal’s "Onsdag i Annen". ABV is 4.7%. An unusual IPA, fermented with half-and-half witbier yeast and lager yeast. Has not been lagered. Contradictory information: Hops are either Chinook all the way, or EKG finished with Cascade. Cloudy golden colour, moderate white head. Catty and citric aroma. Citric and piney flavour, very nice, but a more pronounced "malty backbone" would be desirable. Still very enjoyable.

Cask at the Euston Flyer, London. Brown to copper colour, low head. Aroma of fruit, fudge and caramel, quite nice. Fruity and well-hopped flavour, also notes of of toffee, fudge and nuts. Good beer.

Bottle, at local tasting. ABV is 9.2%. Hazy amber to orange colour. Moderate aroma, just a slight fruitiness. The flavour has moderate "farmhouse" / funky notes, with an acidity which is more fruity than vinegary. Nice enough to drink.

440 ml nitro can with widget, from Rúsan, Tórshavn. ABV is 5%. Deep golden to amber colour, typical nitrogen pour, moderate creamy white head. Aroma of caramel, butterscotch and dark berries. Smooth and creamy nitro mouthfeel. The flavour has again notes of caramel, butterscotch and dark berries, bland in the middle, moderate bitterness in the finish. Not great, but better than I feared.

500 ml bottle, arbitrary sample. ABV is 4.2%. Might be imported to Norway, if a certain pubowner (not one of your usual suspects) gets it his way. Dark ruby colour, low creamy beige head. "Dusty" boring aroma. Smooth flavour, malts and a mild roastiness, low bitterness. Closer to an Irish Red Ale than a stout IMO. Drinkable, but not exciting.

500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. Chestnut colour, large cream-coloured head, nice lacing. Very moderate aroma of malts and caramel. Malty flavour with some toffee and a noticeable bitterness, but not very complex or remarkable. Drinkable of course, but this is a beer that probably would be a lot better if cask or bottle conditioned. It’s not, which makes it not that much better than "average".

500 ml can, bought in Norway. ABV here is 4.7%, to permit the beer being sold in our grocery stores. Canned (and watered down?) in Norway by Hansa-Borg Bryggerier. Reddish brown colour, good head. Aroma is malty with caramel, hints of oak and spices. Full malty flavour, nicely rounded, hints of caramel and herbs. Aftertaste is not unpleasant, but short and a bit watery. This beer is better than I expected, and much better than Kilkenny.

500 ml can, as George Killian’s Bière Rousse (Bière Spéciale de Tradition Irlandaise), bought in France. ABV is 6.5%. Reddish amber colour, large off-white head. Moderate malty sweet aroma with notes of caramel and fruit. Flavour is also moderately malty with some caramel, very moderate hops. Little complexity. Drinkable beer, but nothing to get excited about.

My can (bought in Norway, ABV 4,8%) says 'Premium Irish Beer', but surely this must be more or less the same thing?? An easily drinkable ale, perhaps not all that much character, but good, GOOD (not great). I don't hate nitro cans, but would like to sample this one on tap. (Maybe I have, without noticing....) Rerate: ABV 4.2% version, 440 ml can says "Premium beer" but this is clearly the same stuff, just a little more watery version. Very smooth.

A modern style red ale that really isn't too bad - but the fact that it's brewed by Guinness frequently makes my inner voice ask: Sigmund, don't you REALLY want a Guinness instead? And, behold, the answer normally is YES! Re-rate 2600302: I'm lowering the aroma rating (bottled version, no nitro) - the aroma is strangely dominated by unpleasant, artificial candy notes. The flavour is still good, aftertaste acceptable.
