June 2013: Shared 375 ml bottle, thanks to Ole Anders. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Strong roasty aroma of coffee and wood, a hint of ashes. Even more distinct roasty and coffee notes in the flavour, quite dry, woody and ashy.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 11.0%. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Distinct aroma of chocolate and cardamom, also some less pleasant hints of vomit. Sweet flavour of chocolate and cardamom, a hint of chocolate liqueur, moderate hops.

750 ml red waxed bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 15.0%. Black colour, minimal and shortlived brown head. Aroma of dark malts, rum, oak, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg. Warming mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. Very sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma. The big bottle is for sharing!

375 ml waxed bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 13.3%. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Boozy aroma of bourbon whiskey, fusel and molasses, also oak, coconut, chocolate and vanilla. Rich and warming mouthfeel. The flavour is quite sweet, and has the same elements as the aroma, also notes of brown sugar and a hint of dark dried fruits. Sharing the bottle might be a good idea.

March 2018: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Strong aroma of peat smoke (Laphroaig Scotch whisky) and roast malts. Medium sweet flavour, some lactose and dates, roast malts, intense notes of peat smoke, too much peat for me.

Aroma of roast malts, molasses, fusel, bourbon, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and oak. Sweet flavour, with the same elements as the aroma (minus the fusel), pleasant. Warming throatfeel.

Extremely sweet and boozy flavour with insane amounts of coconut and chocolate, also vanilla and bourbon. Sorry, but this is just ridiculous.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Black colour, small tan head. Aroma and flavour of roast malts, coffee and vanilla. Moderate hops. Some sweetness of course, but not extreme. Excellent beer!

Feb. 2015: 650 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Batch #477/478. ABV is 10.5%. Black colour, moderate brown head. Roasty aroma, notes of coffee, chocolate / cocoa and vanilla, only a hint of passion fruit. Fairly sweet flavour, distinctly fruity first, then the expected roasty notes of coffee and dark chocolate, also vanilla. Moderate hops. I’m a bit uncertain how great I think the fruitiness blends in with the roastiness, maybe not what I would call "perfect balance". Still, an interesting beer.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 11%. Pitch black colour, large tan head. Surprisingly moderate aroma, some malty and roasty notes. Sweet and roasty flavour, notes of chocolate and sweetened coffee, fairly decent.

On tap at Mandag i Annen, Cardinal, Stavanger. Black colour, tan head. The aroma and flavour reveal that there is a very decent and basic imperial stout underneath here, so what is the point with the mango? I suspect that it is here just because it is considered "fashionable" (the moderate addition of chili I can understand - sort of). Well, the moderate mango does not taste bad - it just does not bring anything of value to the beer. Still, the beer is very drinkable.

473 ml can, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 12%. Pitch black colour, moderate and creamy tan head. Aroma of roast malts, coffee, vanilla and cherries. Medium sour and tart flavour with the same elements as the aroma, also very distinct bittering hops. Not perfectly balanced, but well worth sampling.

375 ml corked & caged brown bottle, 20th Anniversary Limited Edition, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Strong aroma of roast malts, chocolate and coffee, hints of caramel, roast nuts and oak. Smooth mouthfeel and flavour. Excellent medium dry to lightly sweet flavour of roast malts, coffee and dark chocolate, hints of liquorice, caramel and roast nuts again.

330 ml can, as Fjordfolk Jupiter Imperial Stout, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10.2%, IBU 160. Pitch black colour, large tan head. Aroma of roast malts and dark chocolate, hints of oak and bourbon. Flavour of roast malts, unsweetened liquorice, dark bitter chocolate, heavy roast Italian espresso coffee, tar, and vicious amounts of piney bittering hops.

April 2017: 330 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. Vintage 2014. ABV is 10.5%. Pitch black colour, minimal tan head. Aroma of roast malts, leather, horse stable, coffee, dark chocolate, hints of molasses and oak. Very moderate but sufficient carbonation. The rich and medium sweet flavour has roast malts, vinous notes, dark dried fruits, coffee, dark chocolate, hints of oak. Warming mouthfeel. Excellent beer.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 12%. Very dark brown to black colour, moderate beige head. Vinous and malty aroma, notes of lightly roasted malts, cheap red wine and dark dried fruits. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, not too sweet, not too heavy, moderate to low bitterness. Not your usual imperial stout, but interesting and nice to drink.

Feb. 2015: 355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.1%. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Fine aroma with the expected roasty notes, coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice, hints of leather, blending in with the fruity notes of West Coast hops. Medium sweet flavour, roasty notes galore, strong coffee, dark bitter chocolate and liquorice, again blending nicely with fruity hops. Bitter finish. A great beer!

Smooth and warming mouthfeel, but not as alcoholic as expected. Rich flavour, with the same elements as the aroma, moderate hops, very pleasant to drink.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Kvadrat. ABV is 6.5%. Hops are Idaho 7, Mosaic and Simcoe Cryo. Murky / opaque pale yellow colour, large white head. Distinct aroma of citrus and tropical fruits, esp. mango. Citric mouthfeel and flavour, medium sweet, also notes of tropical fruits. Low bitterness.
