Sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, some bourbon whiskey and bittering hops in the finish. Impressive beer.

Roasty aroma, roast malts, strong coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, tar, wood and a hint of smoke. Rich mouthfeel. Medium sweet and rich flavour, roast malts, liquorice and strong coffee galore, bitter hops in the finish. High "Wow!" factor.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Enticing aroma, roast malts, chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Can’t say I can detect the blueberries. In the flavour the blueberries come through quite distinctly though, with a fruitiness that meets the sweetness of the malts. The expected notes of chocolate, vanilla and bourbon are there, but more in the background. Too sweet and fruity for an imperial stout? Perhaps, but this is a great beer anyway.

Moderate aroma, mild coffee notes, hints of dark chocolate. Sweet flavour with plenty of coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice, some bitterness in the finish. Quite good.

Medium sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma. Low bitterness, a bit more would be a good idea. Warming throatfeel.

Aroma and flavour of roast malts and chocolate, hints of cherries and raspberries. Very sweet flavour, too sweet for me, really - even if this is a sipping beer and not a refreshment beer. Hints of liquorice. The flavour is also fairly alcoholic.

Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Lovely aroma, roasty and floral notes, hints of coffee, chocolate, leather and rosebuds. Distinctly roasty flavour, notes of strong coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice, floral notes in the background. Decent hops (Centennial).

Cask at Copenhagen Beer Festival, as Fuller's Past Masters 1893 Double Stout. . Black colour. Sweetish aroma with roasty notes of coffee, liquorice and dark chocolate. Fairly sweet flavour with distinct roasty notes, coffee, liquorice and dark chocolate again, hints of dark dried fruits, some bitterness. Well balanced and truly enjoyable.

The flavour is not too sweet (despite the name), and has the same elements as the aroma, with the vanilla a bit more pronounced now. Very good beer.

Sample at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Smokey, peppery and roasty aroma, balanced by sweetish malty notes, lovely. Sweet, malty and roasty flavour, the smokey and peppery notes are fairly moderate, the coffee notes linger in the aftertaste. A pretty impressive beer.

750 ml bottle, batch #15, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.3%, OG 1085, FG 1015, IBU 44. Pitch black colour (one of the darkest beers I’ve seen), large and impressive head with colour somewhere between coke grey and brown. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, leather and chocolate, mixed with acidic and "farmhouse" notes of brettanomyces. The flavour is rich and medium sweet, with some fruity acidity, but is first and foremost dominated by roasty notes of coffee, hints of dark bitter chocolate and black pepper. Great stuff.

Very sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, noticeable bittering hops in the finish. Recommended for sharing.

My beer rating No. 8000. 330 ml bottle conditioned, barrel aged, from Aberdeen Country Fair (bought there ultimo August 2017, but the BB date of the bottle was 07. Oct. 2016). ABV is 10.5%. Pitch black colour, but no proper head. Fine aroma of roast malts, liquorice, molasses and dark dried fruits, some vinous notes. Minimal carbonation. The flavour is moderately sweet, with notes of roast malts, coffee, liquorice, dark bitter chocolate, some alcohol and bittering hops. Would profit from a somewhat higher level of carbonation.
