October 2017: Shared 330 ml bottle at local tasting. Black colour, tan head. Aroma of roast malts, molasses and fusel, a hint of whisky. Roasty flavour, slightly sweet, again notes of molasses and fusel, also whisky. Could have been better, but still fairly impressive.

440 ml can, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 13%. Pitch black colour, moderate and creamy tan head. Intense aroma of maple syrup, vanilla, caramel and doughnuts. Extremely sweet and cloying flavour, with the same elements as the aroma. Drinkable only in small portions - the can should be shared between minimum 4 persons, none of them should have diabetes. Oh Holy Mother of God!

February 2022: 440 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11%. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Unusual aroma elements (the pandan, probably, which I am not familiar with), coconut and vanilla, only a hint of citrus / lemongrass. Rich and warming mouthfeel. The flavour is very sweet, with loads of roast malts, dark syrup, sweetened coconut / Bounty chocolate and vanilla. Only a hint of lemongrass, the bitterness is low.

440 ml can, as Beak Yello Banana Stout, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 11%. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma of banana, vanilla and chocolate. Sweet flavour, banana, vanilla and chocolate again, hints of coffee and roast malts, moderate bittering hops in the finish. Okay, now I've tried it - will probably not buy again.

Smooth flavour, notes of roast malts, coffee and dark chocolate, again some vinous notes, a hint of liquorice. Moderate hops.

Sweet and rich flavour, distinct notes of roast malts and coffee, also some chocolate and bittering hops. Warming mouthfeel.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Sweetish aroma of chocolate cake, molasses and alcohol. Extremely sweet flavour of chocolate cake, a small glass is acceptable as "konfekt", a large glass would be nearly undrinkable.

473 ml can, as Toppling Goliath Fresh Batch Series S'mores Pastry Stout, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 10%. Pitch black colour, large and creamy tan head. Aroma of graham crackers, malts, chocolate and marshmallows. Very sweet flavour (despite no lactose) with the same elements, the malts are more roasty and distinct now. The can is for sharing.

February 2013: Rerate, 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Batch No. 511. ABV is 10.0%. Pitch black colour, large brown head. Nice roasty aroma, notes of exotic woodwork, coffee, liquorice and dark chocolate. The flavour is roasty, malty and quite sweet, notes of sweetened strong coffee, chocolate and liquorice, some spicy notes. Bitter hops in the finish. First impression: Powerful - spicy - roasty - impressive - very tasty!

330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 12%. Pitch black colour, small tan head. Sweetish aroma of molasses, treacle, oak and alcohol. The flavour is sweet, malty and roasty, with notes of chocolate, sweetened coffee and treacle, but also interesting fruity notes of prunes, also oak and notes of spicy hops. Not bad this one.

July 2017: Cask halfpint at The Junction, Castleford. Pitch black colour, tan head. Pleasant aroma of roast malts, red wine, liquorice and chocolate. Rich flavour, roast malts, red wine, liquorice, some alcohol, oak. Warming mouthfeel. Excellent beer.

Moderately sweet flavour with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, brown sugar, vanilla and lactose, moderate bittering hops.

The flavour is too sweet, with the same elements as the aroma, but now with more distinct chili, which leaves a moderate but nice chili throatburn.

Sweet flavour but not cloying, notes of moderately roasted malts and loads of caramel, also hazelnuts and hints of chocolate, very moderate hops. Nice to drink.

355 ml bottle, shared by gunnar. Pitch black colour, moderate to low brown head. Nice aroma of chocolate / cocoa, molasses and coffee. Same elements in the flavour, add a little liquorice and decent hops, and you’re there. Good stuff.

500 ml bottle, from KWM Wines & Spirits. ABV is 10%. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, toasted coconut, a hint of mild coffee. Cloying / sticky and oily mouthfeel. Exceedingly sweet flavour, with the same elements as the aroma, way too much lactose and coconut. Overkill.

500 ml bottle, from KWM Wines & Spirits. ABV is 10%. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Moderate but pleasant aroma of roast malts, chocolate, mild coffee, vanilla and marshmallows. Very sweet flavour (too sweet), loads of lactose, notes of roasted barley, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and marshmallows, even a hint of charcoal / ashes and smoke. A pity that the brewery uses too much lactose in some of their beers.

Shared 750 ml bottle at local tasting. ABV is 11.2%. Pitch black colour, minimal tan head. Roasty aroma, chocolate, coffee, a whiff of vomit which fortunately does not last. Hints of molasses and liquorice. Distinctly roasty flavour with notes of liquorice and roast malts, also coffee and dark chocolate. Good, but not brilliant.

330 ml bottle, from Bestofbeers, Denmark. ABV is 9.4%. Black colour, small beige head. Aroma of roast malts, prunes, oak, some vinous hints. Moderate carbonation. Flavour of roast malts, a moderate residual sweetness, hints of chocolate and liquorice, the finish lacks bitterness. Half-decent, not world class.

440 ml can, as Seven Island Sunday Stack, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 12%. Brewed for Seven Island at Sori Brewing, Estonia. Black colour, small tan head. Intense sweetish and sickening aroma of "artificial" dark berries, vanilla, lactose and fatty roasted nuts. Warming and cloying mouthfeel. Ridiculously sweet flavour, but a fairly distinct fruitiness helps the drinkability a lot. Notes of blueberries, blackberries, a shitload of lactose, maple syrup, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and roasted nuts. Low bitterness. Might have been a reasonably good beer if they had not killed it with lactose and maple syrup.

Shared 500 ml bottle at local tasting. ABV is 11%. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Strong roasty and salty aroma, notes of tar, seaside and old rope, hints of smoke, also notes of oak / vanilla and coffee as expected. The flavour is fairly dry and very roasty with distinct notes of coffee, hints of smoke and oak / vanilla.

330 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 10.0%. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Aroma of roast malts, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, exotic woodwork. Rich mouthfeel. The medium sweet flavour is roasty with notes of strong coffee and dark bitter chocolate, some vanilla, and distinct bittering hops. Impressive.
