330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Bryne. ABV is 10.0%. Hazy golden colour, large to moderate white head. Aroma of citrus, tropical fruits, pine and spruce. Sweet flavour of malts and alcohol, with distinct fruity and piney / resinous hops.

Sample at BrewDog tasting, Stavanger. Golden colour, moderate white head. Nice hoppy and fruity aroma with a hint of cloudberries. Unfortunately: in the flavour the bittering hops (Columbus and Centennial) completely overpowers the expected white grape and gooseberry notes of the Nelson Sauvin hops, and the blackcurrant notes of the Bramling Cross hops - also the subtle flavour of the cloudberries is lost. Another example of BrewDog partly ruining their own beers by their silly "tougher than Thou" image, which now appears to be a constraint on their product range, rather than an asset.

330 ml can, as Cervisiam Pablo's Esco-Bar, from Vinmonopolet Herbarium or Madla. ABV is 8%. Cloudy yellow to orange colour, moderate white head. Nice aroma of tropical fruits (papaya, guava, mango), some citrus too, a hint of caramel. The flavour is very sweet (too sweet) with loads of lactose and caramel, nearly drowning the notes of citrus and tropical fruits, a hint of sprucetips.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Herbarium. Rye DIPA, ABV is 8.1%. Murky orange to brown colour, LOADS of yeast and protein floaties in the glass, looks awful. Small head, slightly off-white. Aroma of American West Coast hops, notes of orange marmalade and pine, hints of rye bread. The medium sweet flavour is malty with hints of rye bread again, also notes of piney and grapefruity hops, but the bitterness is moderate.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Opaque yellow colour, white head. Pleasant aroma of tropical fruits, citrus and spruce. Good mouthfeel, but not too sweet. Flavour like the aroma. Good beer.

650 ml bottle, as Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Ale, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8%, OG 1085, IBU 102. Golden colour, large white head. Intense and sweetish aroma of fruity and piney American hops and crystal malts, notes of orange marmalade, pine needles, tropical fruits and grapefruit. The flavour is quite sweet and intensely hoppy, with the same elements as in the aroma. Nearly too much of it all.

Equally pleasant flavour of tropical fruits, citrus and sprucetips, moderately sweet. Moderate bitterness. Very enjoyable.

Rerate, cask at HaandBryggeriet’s stand at Parkteatret’s "Beer Day", + bottle at Bar & Cigar, Oslo: Remarkably good - I’m upping it a few points! Original rating: 500 ml bottle, as HaandBryggeriet Dobbel Dose IPA, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Bottle conditioned, unfiltered and unpasteurised. Batch #108, brewed Nov. 07, BB Nov. 09. ABV is 8.5%. Very cloudy orange-brown colour, big off-white head. Nice hoppy aroma, notes of flowers and orange marmalade, a hint of oak too. The flavour is sweet (too sweet) and somewhat alcoholic, with a substantial dominance of hops (as expected from a Double IPA), but not quite as extreme as I feared. Bitter finish. When pouring the last sediment in the glass the beer becomes extremely muddy, but the flavour also becomes more complex and interesting.

On tap at HaandBryggeriet tasting, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Cloudy yellow colour, moderate white head. Well hopped aroma and flavour, notes of citrus, tropical fruits and spruce. Good malt body, but still very refreshing.

355 ml can, at the Granite City (JDW), Aberdeen Airport. 9.1% ABV, 103 IBU. Orange colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Surprisingly moderate aroma of American piney and grapefruity hops. In the flavour, however, both the piney / resinous and grapefruity notes are very distinct - still the beer is reasonably well balanced, the malts are sufficient, with a certain fruity sweetness, and where I expected an unbalanced resinous hell, there is actually as much smoothness as you can expect from a 103 IBU beer. Might well buy again.

355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.7%. Hazy deep golden colour, large white head. Strong hoppy aroma of oranges / orange marmalade and grapefruit, hints of caramel and pine needles. The flavour is first fruity and fresh, then a ferocious attack of piney and grapefruity American "C"-hops sets in, and leaves you with a massive bitter finish - all on a background of medium sweet crystal malts.

On tap at the brewery. Deep golden to amber colour. Pleasant aroma and flavour of fruity (citrus, tropical fruits) and piney (pine needles, resin) American hops. Still fairly smooth to drink (for a DIPA). Enjoyable

500 ml bottle in cardboard box, from Best of Beers, Denmark. ABV is 10.5%. Cloudy and very dark brown colour, probably the darkest IPA I've seen (except black IPAs, of course). Moderate to small off-white to beige head. Aroma of over-ripe red berries, jam, piney and earthy hops. The flavour is medium sweet and distinctly hoppy, notes of jam / marmalade, piney and earthy hops again. Slightly warming mouthfeel. Impressive.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Cloudy dark orange colour, large off-white head. Aroma of citrus fruit (esp. oranges) and pine. Luscious hoppy flavour, with notes of bitter orange marmalade, grapefruit, mango and resin. In other words: Lots of hoppy flavours in addition to the expected solid bitterness, which is still not to extreme. A wonderful beer!

500 ml bottle, as 8 Wired Super Conductor Double IPA, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 8.8%. Crystal clear golden colour, apparently filtered. Moderate white head. Intense aroma of fruity NZ and US hops, a remarkable blend of lychee and other tropical fruits, citrus and white grapes. Also hints of spruce and caramel. The flavour is very hoppy, fruity, resinous and bitter, but also quite sweet. Far from "perfectly balanced", but still damned good and tasty.

The flavour is medium sweet, distinct notes of pine needles, orange peel and grapefruit, also caramel and honey. Reasonably bitter finish.

Lots of fruit, pine needles and resin in the slightly sweet flavour too. Bitter finish, very bitter aftertaste.

Sample from bottle, at my son Steinar's place. The bottle was 60% full of trub / yeast sediment. Extremely cloudy even in the glass, yellow colour. Nice aroma of citric and piney hops. Very piney flavour, also citric hops. Bitter finish.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. BB date 30.04.15. ABV is 8%. Brewed by Omnipollo at De Proef Brouwerij. "Single Hop Galaxy" is not mentioned on the label. Slightly hazy deep golden to orange colour, large to moderate white head. Aroma of citrussy and piney hops. Fresh and fruity flavour first, seems to have kept well. The finish is drier, resinous and "dusty", very bitter.
