355 ml can, from Bris Ølutsalg, Jørpeland. ABV is 4.7%. Deep golden to orange colour, large white head. Nice wheaty aroma, notes of cloves, citrus and banana. Light bodied. Nice wheaty flavour too, a slight sweetness but not too much, again with cloves, citrus and banana. Moderate hops. Might well buy again.

3430 Indslev Svane Hvede Denmark Hefeweizen 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 4.9%. Very cloudy brownish yellow colour, large white head. Typical hefeweizen aroma of cloves and banana. The medium dry flavour has also moderate notes of cloves, even more moderate notes of banana. Refreshing and very drinkable - maybe not the greatest h.w. around, but good enough for me.

3431 Oberdorfer Weissbier. Germany Hefeweizen 3.5

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml swingtop bottle, bought in Spain. ABV is 5.0%. Cloudy pale golden colour, large white head. The aroma is first dusty and grainy, then the typical hefeweizen features (cloves and banana) come through. The medium dry flavour has also some grainy notes, moderate notes of cloves, an apple-like acidity in the finish. Like most hefeweizens it is refreshing and fairly nice to drink - but not the best example of the style.

3432 Atna Øl Rypeøl Norway Hefeweizen 3.3

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

330 ml bottle, from distributor Strag. Also sampled at Ølfestivalen Nærbø. ABV is 4.7%. Some sediment in the bottle. Hazy brownish golden colour, moderate to low white head. Moderate aroma, some wood and citrus, a hint of cloves and dust. Moderate carbonation in the glass. Soft mouthfeel. Pleasant to drink, the refreshing flavour has some wheaty, citrussy, woody and bready notes. Tolerable hops. Tastes like a cross between a helles lager and a dunkelweizen.

500 ml bottle, as Skagen Nordlys Hvede, thanks to my beerpal Olav. ABV is 5.0%. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Wheaty aroma and flavour, with the usual notes of banana and cloves, but more subdued than in many hefeweizens from the homeland of this style.

3434 Ægir Hefeweizen Norway Hefeweizen 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger, as Ægir Hefeweissen (disregarding that someone can’t spell Hefeweizen, nor Hefe-Weissbier). Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Strong and typical h.w.-aroma of ripe bananas, citrus and cloves. High level of carbonation. Refreshing wheaty flavour, banana and cloves again, not very sweet. Noticeable hops in the finish. A decent hefeweizen!

500 ml bottle conditioned, from Selfridge’s food store, London. ABV is 4.8%. Clear golden / yellow colour (not clouded at all), large white head. 3437 Herslev Økologisk Hvedeøl Denmark Hefeweizen 3.7

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. Brew #432. ABV is 5.6%. There has been a recipe change for this beer, it is now a German-inspired Hefeweizen, not a Belgian-inspired Witbier as before. The recipe now seems to be much the same as their ordinary Hvedeøl, only with organic ingredients. Some sediment in the bottle. Cloudy pale yellow colour, huge white head. Distinct spicy aroma of cloves, also hints of banana and citrus. Refreshing flavour, not very sweet, notes of cloves again, hints of banana. Moderate hops. Highly drinkable.

500 ml shared bottle, as Craft Weiss Beer, thanks to our beerpal Jan Magnus who brought it from Greece. ABV is 5.0%. Cloudy orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma with notes of malt and wort, overshadows the typical h.w. notes of cloves and banana. Also notes of over-ripe berries. Wheaty flavour, refreshing, with a more pronounced hoppy bitterness than in many other hefeweizens.

330 ml bottle, as Meantime Wheat, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo. ABV is 5.0%. Cloudy golden colour, huge and lasting white head. Spicy aroma, notes of cloves and dust, hints of banana. Citrussy / lemony flavour, bordering on "sour", just a hint of cloves. No detectable hops. Sorry, but the Germans do this better.

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 5.5%. Despite the name, this is one of the least cloudy hefeweizens I have seen, pretty close to a kristallweizen. Pale golden colour, big to moderate white head. Typical hefeweizen aroma of ripe bananas, cloves and bubblegum. The flavour has also notes of banana and cloves, hints of citrus, very moderate hops in the finish.

3443 De Molen Rijn & Veen Netherlands Hefeweizen 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

750 ml corked and wired bottle, from Vinmonopolet Valkendorfsgate (spesialutvalget), Bergen. ABV is 5.1%, EBU is 19.4. Bittering hop Sladek, aroma hop Saaz. OG 1048, FG 1010. Pale golden colour, huge and lasting white head. The aroma is more spicy and less fruity than most German style wheats. Cloves galore, maybe coriander too? Hints of leather. Light bodied and refreshing. The flavour is dry, yeasty and spicy, maybe a hint of citrus and banana when you search for it, but less pronounced than in most hefeweizens. Very moderate hops in the finish. Nice enough.

3444 Erdinger Weissbier Leicht Germany Hefeweizen 2.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

On tap, or possibly poured from bottle, at the Erdinger brewery. ABV is 2.9%. Aroma and flavour much like the "ordinary" Erdinger Weissbier, only lighter in character in all aspects. Surprisingly decent for such a light beer, much better than the Erdinger Alkoholfrei.

3446 Schloßbrauerei Grünbach Greabecker Urweisse Hell Germany Hefeweizen 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, as Schlossbrauerei Grünbach Greabecker Urweisse Hell, bought at Rewe Getränkemarkt, Erding. ABV is 5.3%. Cloudy brownish-yellow colour, huge and lasting white head. Strong typical hefeweizen aroma of banana and cloves, also other undefined spices. The flavour has moderate notes of banana and stronger notes of cloves / other spices, but is drier than many other hefeweizens, and the moderate hops in the finish are actually noticeable. A bit too much carbonation in the mouth for my taste, but otherwise a nice h.w.

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, bought at Vaaland, Bryne, also Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Sediment, the bottle should be turned upside-down a couple times to get more wheat yeast flavour. Cloudy brownish-yellow colour, moderate white head. Moderate wheaty aroma, notes of citrus, hints of cloves and banana, but not as much as in most German hefeweizens. Light bodied. Refreshing wheaty flavour, moderate notes of citrus, cloves and banana, dry and slightly peppery finish.
