Aroma of grain, malts and stale jam, hints of decaying fruits (incl. banana), only a faint hint of cloves. Flavour of malts and grain, a little citrus, hints of stale jam. Not my favourite Hefeweizen this one.

March 2013: 330 ml test bottle from the importer. ABV is 4.8%. Cloudy golden colour, large white head. Medium strong and sweetish aroma of over-ripe bananas and cloves. Fizzy mouthfeel. Medium sweet flavour, notes of cloves and some banana again, but lacks the touch of citrussy freshness that other hefeweizens have. Still very drinkable.

500 ml bottle, as Nua Hveteøl Chili & Passion, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy and very pale straw colour, moderate white head. Aroma of citrus, passionfruit and a hint of chili, also hints of banana and cloves. Fizzy mouthfeel. Flavour of wheat and citrus, hints of passionfruit, banana and cloves, ending in a moderate chili burn.

(March 30, 2014) 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark, probably at Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 5.4%. BB date 20.07.13. Hazy orange colour, large white head. Smells a bit "off", sweetish notes of malts and caramel, only hints of banana and cloves. The flavour is somewhat better, malty character, not too sweet, but again the typical hefeweizen notes of "banana & cloves" are very subdued. Lacks some of the "freshness" of a better hefeweizen, Might buy a fresher bottle at another occasion, to re-rate.

300 ml bottle, from a grocery store in Rotterdam. ABV is 5.7%. Hazy straw colour, moderate to small white head. Wheaty sweetish aroma of yeast, coriander, cloves, banana and orange peel. Citric mouthfeel. Medium sweet wheaty flavour with the same elements as the aroma, also notes of lemons, minimal hops.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Bryne. ABV is 5.5%. Golden colour, nearly clear, small white head. Aroma of yeast, malts and stale jam, hints of cloves and banana. Citric mouthfeel. The flavour is surprisingly bitter and medicinal throughout, some citrus / grapefruit and banana. Drinkable, but overall very disappointing, I expect more from HaandBryggeriet.

Hazy brownish golden colour, big head, slightly off-white. Strong and lovely aroma of ripe bananas and cloves. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is reasonably malty for a hefeweizen, with distinct notes of cloves. Very moderate hops. The alcohol is well hidden. Good beer.

500 ml bottle, bought in Germany. ABV is 5.2%. Hazy golden colour, large head. Lovely weissbier aroma, plenty of cloves, some banana too but not as much as in some other hefes. Cloves also in the flavour, which is light bodied, refreshing and not too sweet. A slightly lemony finish. A very enjoyable hefe!

Lovely hefeweizen aroma, full of ripe bananas and cloves, also notes of other spices, leather and tropical fruits. Flavour is zesty and mildly spicy, some citrus, and even decent hops for a h.w. Very nice!

375 ml bottle, from Seven Cellars. ABV is 5.2%. Very pale straw colour, slightly hazy. Moderate white head. Aroma of yeast, dust, rubber, citrus, lemongrass and cloves. Citric mouthfeel. Yeasty and citric flavour, notes of lemon zest, lemongrass and dust, a hint of cloves. Low bitterness. Not awful, but nearly every genuine German Hefeweizen I've had is better than this one.

330 ml can, from Bunnpris Sauda. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly gushing can, overcarbonated. The glass fills completely by white foam, and the hazy pale yellow beer underneath appears only slowly. Aroma of oranges and cloves. Citric and fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is too sweet for a hefeweizen, notes of lactose and sweet oranges, a hint of cloves.

500 ml swingtop bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.4%. Hazy golden colour, huge white head. Strong aroma of ripe bananas and banana-flavoured candy / bubble gum, also notes of cloves. Refreshing flavour, some sweetness but not too much, notes of banana, citrus and cloves. In other words: a typical well made Hefe-Weissbier, which is good enough for me, as I love this beer style, esp. in summer.

500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 4.9%. Depending on the light, the hazy colour goes from golden to orange to pale brown. Moderate white head. Pleasant sweetish and wheaty aroma, notes of flowers, oranges, banana and cloves. Smooth mouthfeel. Refreshing wheaty flavour, again notes of oranges, banana and cloves, a slight bitterness in the aftertaste.

500 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken, at a very reasonable price (for Norway, that is), probably the cheapest beer per liter you can get at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 5.1%. Moderately hazy golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Sweetish aroma of banana and cloves. Banana and cloves in the flavour too, a little citrus, Hardly any bitterness. Well worth the money, might buy again.

Distinct aroma of over-ripe to decaying bananas, cloves and malts, a hint of solvent. Moderate carbonation. Fairly refreshing wheaty flavour, with some citrus, banana and cloves.

Nice aroma of American hops (Citra and Mosaic), notes of citrus and tropical fruits, a hint of spruce, also banana and cloves. Light bodied. Dry and citric flavour, banana and cloves again, a hint of sprucetips, low but noticeable bitterness. Refreshing and enjoyable.

Typical hefeweizen-aroma of cloves and over-ripe bananas, also other decaying fruits. Tolerably refreshing flavour, cloves, citrus and banana, some acidity, hardly any noticeable hops.
