Golden colour, pours very effervescent with a large white head that soon dies out. Lovely and intense aroma of cowshed, horse stable, farmhouse kitchen, oak and old gooseberry jam, hints of white wine vinegar and over-ripe peaches. 3358 | Mort Subite Gueuze | Belgium | Gueuze | 3.3
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 375 ml bottle, corked champagne style. In France. Brown colour, large head. Aroma of barnyard, ensilage and red wine vinegar. Sour & sweet flavour with notes of claret and red wine vinegar. The recipe includes maize (corn) and ascorbic acid. A drinkable gueuze, but I’m not impressed. |

3359 | Lindemans Gueuze | Belgium | Gueuze | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 375 ml capped and corked bottle, as Gueuze Foudroyante, bought in France. ABV is 4.0%. Hazy dark amber colour, large to moderate off-white head. Sweet and sourish aroma, reminiscent of some cheap white wines, hints of oak, cider apples, rotting berries and barnyard too. Flavour is very sweet, sweeter than any other gueuze I’ve had (not that I’ve had very many), strong notes of rotting fruits and berries, sourish but not astringent. Short sourish-sweet aftertaste. Worth a try, but won’t buy again. |

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9 Rerate, 375 ml "champagne" bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6%. Unfiltered, bottled 10/03/2008. Pours very fizzy. Cloudy yellow colour, big white head. Lovely farmhouse aroma, notes of fermenting fruits and spices. The flavour is very sour and tart with notes of lemons and Bramley apples, hints of spices, some hops in the atertaste. Original rating: Sampled bottle, RBNAG 2007 in Grimstad, as 3 Fonteinen Beersel Oude Geuze 1999. Golden colour, large head. Funky aroma / mold, horseblanket. Nice sour flavour with oaky and farmhouse notes. |

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 (750 ml "champagne" bottle, vintage 1997-98). Pours with an enormous lasting head. Cloudy golden colour. Lovely aroma of sour fruits, notes of spices and horse stable. Flavour is fruity, sour but not vinegar, a little tart. Quite dry. Reminds me of a brut champagne. Moreish aftertaste. Yummy! |

3364 | Cantillon Gueuze | Belgium | Gueuze | 4.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 375 ml corked bottle. Large head, disappears rapidly. Deep golden colour, cloudy when the yeast is poured. Heavenly aroma of barnyard and ensilage with white wine vinegar elements. Flavour is crisp and very dry, reminiscent of a very dry white wine or brut champagne. Not as complex as I expected. Really a beer for the "Champagne Brut" people. |

3365 | Timmermans Blanche Wit | Belgium | Gueuze | 2.5
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger, as Timmermans Tradition Lambicus Blanche. ABV is 4.5%. Sweetened with sugar AND saccharine, hmmm... Ingredients also include artificial "aromas / flavourings" + antioxidant E300. Spontaneous fermentation, has the character of a sweetened lambic more than a witbier. Pale golden colour, big white head. Citrussy aroma with some sidenotes of milk products, also notes of farmhouse cider and barnyard, hints of banana and cloves. The flavour is saccharine sweetness with citrussy notes, and only a moderate acidity. No bitterness. Not very interesting. |

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 375 ml "champagne" bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6.0%. Pours with an enormous white (possibly slightly off-white) head, which slowly reveals a beer of hazy deep golden colour. Lovely complex aroma of farmhouse and fermenting fruits, hints of oak and spices. The flavour is fairly sour and tart, with a dry finish. Some hops in the aftertaste. Good stuff! |

3368 | 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Vintage (2002-) | Belgium | Gueuze | 4.1
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 750 ml "champagne" bottle, now available in Norway (Vinmonopolet). ABV is 6%. Bottle date: 14-02-2007, the "best before" date also reads 02-2007, which obviously must be a misprint. Hazy golden colour, big white head. Lovely aroma of lemons and other sour fruits, with strong notes of farmhouse and horse stable. The flavour is very sour and tart, with lemony notes and a dry and astringent finish with noticeable hops. |

3370 | Aldaris Kviesu | Latvia | Hefeweizen | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 On tap in Riga. Cloudy golden colour, moderate head for a hefeweizen. Not served in appropriate glass. Basically a typical hefeweizen aroma and flavour, with strong notes of cloves - but the flavour is somewhat less fruity than many other h.w.s. Nice enough, but the finish is rather bland. |

3371 | Bruveris Kviesu | Latvia | Hefeweizen | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 500 ml bottle, bought in Riga. ABV is 3.9%. Unfiltered wheat beer. Cloudy straw coloured beer, moderate to low white head. Strong aroma of butterscotch (diacetyl), caramel and boiled vegetables. The flavour has a certain acidity, notes of green apples, lemons and butterscotch. The most unusual wheat beer I’ve had so far, very far from being a great beer, but quite refreshing after all. |

3372 | West Hefeweizen | United Kingdom | Hefeweizen | 2.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 On tap at Blackfriars, Glasgow, as "West End Hefeweizen", according to my notes. Cloudy pale golden colour. Typical hefeweizen aroma of cloves, but with some strange sidenotes of rotting vegetables. Citrussy flavour, notes of cloves, thin mouthfeel. Not a very successful hefeweizen in my book. |

3373 | Pinkus Hefeweizen | Germany | Hefeweizen | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought at Real Foods, Edinburgh. ABV is 5.0%. Like all Pinkus Müller beers, it is organic. Cloudy pale yellow colour, huge white head. Strong and typical hefeweizen aroma, spicy notes of cloves and banana, hints of farmhouse and oak. Soft mouthfeel. Wheaty flavour, subdued cloves and banana, moderate sweetness. Another good hefeweizen, but not the very best. |

3374 | HaandBryggeriet Bavaria | Norway | Hefeweizen | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought at Maxi Stormarked, Sandnes. Batch 151. ABV is 4.5%. Cloudy yellow colour, big to moderate white head. Nice and strong yeasty aroma with spicy and herbal notes, hints of citrus. Spritzy mouthfeel, high level of carbonation. The flavour is also spicy, even peppery, but the yeast is a bit too dominant. Still a beer I’ll most likely buy again. |
