251 | Belfast Bay Lobster Ale | United States | Amber Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7 355 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV in Norway is 4.7%. Copper coloured beer, large to moderate off-white head. Strong aroma of caramel and treacle, some fruity hints too. The mouthfeel is fairly light. The flavour is moderately malty with notes of caramel, but is not very sweet. Some roasted malts and fruity hops in the finish. I don’t know why this particular beer was chosen for import to Norway, but it is nice enough to drink. Just not America’s best, though. |

252 | 8 Wired Tall Poppy | New Zealand | Amber Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7%. Cloudy amber to brown colour, large and creamy off-white head. Lovely aroma of fruity (particularly grapefruit) and piney American hops (Warrior, Columbus, Simcoe, Amarillo). The flavour is distinctly piney and resinous, the hops immediately take command of the malts in the background. Not very sweet, dry and bitter finish. |

253 | Green Flash Hop Head Red | United States | Amber Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 355 ml bottle, as Green Flash Hop Head Red Ale, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg, Denmark. ABV is 6.4%. Reddish brown colour, large off-white head. Nice and strong aroma of Amarillo hops, notes of spruce, orange marmalade and caramel. Well hopped flavour throughout (spruce / pine and grapefruit), on a fairly malty caramel background, nicely balanced. Moreish. A beer that easily could become one of my regulars, if it were available in Norway. |

254 | Meantime Yakima Red | United Kingdom | Amber Ale | 4.3
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 500 ml bottle, at Olympen, Oslo. Beautiful reddish colour, large to moderate off-white head. Lovely complex aroma of American hops, notes of various fruits, hints of spices. Delightful hoppy flavour, well balanced with the malts, notes of red fruits / berries, blackcurrants and blackcurrant leaves, extremely drinkable. Great with a mutton dinner, or alone. A "school example" of English subtlety paired with American quality hops in a moderate ABV "session" ale. |

256 | Thornbridge Sequoia | United Kingdom | Amber Ale | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 On tap at Fermentoren, Aarhus. For once I pass on writing own comments, and choose simply to quote the brewery’s tasting notes, which seemed quite accurate to me: "The Thornbridge Sequoia American Amber Ale has beautiful citrus and pine notes that come from our generous additions of Amarillo, Centennial and Chinook hops. It is smooth and velvety in the mouth with the toasted malts giving it a medium body with hints of roasted hazelnut, toffee and caramel malt flavours. Sequoia, a beautiful beer for all occasions!" |

Bottle conditioned, ABV is 4.7%. Dark copper coloured beer, hazy, with a decent off-white head. The aroma has notes of wood, mild spices, caramel and a moderate and undefined fruitiness. 270 | Berentsens Rav Amber Ale 4,7% | Norway | Amber Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought at Vaaland, Bryne. "Grocery store version" at 4.7% ABV. Mahogany coloured beer (I’ve never seen "amber" this dark!), moderate but lasting creamy head. Moderate but pleasant aroma of Cascade hops, hints of malts and caramel too. The flavour has dominant Cascade on a (barely) sufficient malty background, hints of burnt caramel but the beer is not sweet. Bitter aftertaste. The mouthfeel is slightly thinner than the stronger version. This is one of the better non-bottle-conditioned beers on the Norwegian grocery store market, well worth sampling. |

The beer starts pouring out of the bottle by its own will. Dark amber colour, moderate beige head. Malty and bready aroma, notes of bakery and caramel, also some fruity hops, hints of spices. The flavour is malty and earthy with caramel and toffee, decent hops in the finish. |

274 | Skovlyst BøgeBryg | Denmark | Amber Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 5.2%. The brewers call this a "dark American ale", not an IPA. The brewery website says the beer has been fermented and matured with fresh beech branches, while the bottle label says it has been brewed with oak and beech extract. Ingredients also include glucose syrup. Hm. Reddish amber colour, big off-white head. Nice aroma of fruity Cascade hops, just a hint of wood, smoke and syrup. The flavour is sweet and malty, the glucose syrup also has a distinct presence, but the beer is not quite sweet enough to be "cloying". Also notes of wood, hints of smoke. Noticeable hops in the finish. An unusual beer, might be called "interesting". |
