Lovely hoppy aroma with strong notes of red berries and tropical fruits. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has a great balance between the malts and the distinct and fruity hops, notes of red berries and blackcurrants. Moderately bitter finish and aftertaste. Good beer!

From the tank at the brewery, RBESG 2006. Beautiful deep amber colour, creamy off-white head. Lovely hoppy aroma, citrussy notes, hints of toffee. Flavour is also grapefruity hoppiness, on a slightly sweet background, notes of caramel.

Sampled RBESG 2006 Grand Tasting. 750 ml bottle, ABV is 11.5%. Chestnut colour. INTENSE sweet aroma of oak and fortified wine, spicy notes. Oaky and spicy flavour, warming mouthfeel as expected from an 11.5% ABV beer. No thirstquencher, but an interesting sipping beer

500 ml capped brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.9%. "Ungespundet - hefetrüb". Deep golden to amber colour, large and creamy lingering head. Lovely aroma of hops, caramel and bakery. Moderate carbonation, soft mouthfeel. Mellow flavour with a delicate balance between malts and hops, notes of rye bread, hints of butterscotch. I’d like a tad more bittering hops for the aftertaste, though. Definitely a recommendable beer.

Strong sweetish and hoppy aroma, notes of strawberries, blackcurrants, figs, caramel and Christmas pudding. Pleasant flavour with moderately sweet fruity notes, some biscuity notes and caramel too. Distinct hops throughout. Soft and pleasant mouthfeel. A nice Christmas ale this one!

500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 5.0%. Copper coloured, slightly hazy, moderate to low off-white head. Aroma of earth, honey and flowers. Flavour is rich and malty but not too sweet, some burnt caramel, balanced by decent hops, a distinct bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Moderate carbonation. I like it!

500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.8%. Golden colour, like a pils, some chill haze. Decent white head, nice lacing. Aroma has first strong notes of tropical fruits (aromatic hops), then the aroma subsides and I get moderate notes of honey and flowers. Moderate carbonation, soft moutheel. Flavour has first some moderate fruity notes, then a gentle hoppy bitterness takes you by the hand and leads you through the finish and aftertaste. The beer is light bodied, and is indeed one for those hot summer days - but I quite enjoyed it in the dead of December too. I imagine this would be a good "introduction ale" for lager louts - the first step into the world of better ales, so to speak.

The beer gushes out of the bottle when opening. Hazy reddish brown colour, huge, creamy and long lasting off-white head. Vinous aroma with notes of moderate malts, barnyard and balsamic vinegar. Flavour is distinctly hoppy throughout, but there is also a moderately sweet maltiness with hints of caramel. Moderate carbonation in the glass. Bitter aftertaste. I get a "homebrew" feeling with this one. I like it!

660 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 10.5%. Deep copper colour, large tan head. Interesting aroma, sweet and malty, but also notes of various berries, esp. blackberries, and molasses, caramel and bakery. Intense flavour, very malty and sweet with loads of caramel, partly balanced by a distinct hoppy bite. Spices and alcohol are present too (alcohol maybe more than I appreciate). Quite good, but not easy drinking - the bottle is for sharing!

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. The beer is quite clear reddish brown when poured, a slight haziness may occur if the sediment is disturbed in the end, decent head. LOVELY aroma with intense fruity an vinous notes, spices are very much present too. The flavour is also fruity and spicy but not very powerful, hints of caramel. Moderate sweetness, moderate bitterness. A slightly salty finish. Light bodied, the ABV is well hidden. Easy drinking. The aftertaste is not remarkable.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Hinna - Stadionparken. ABV is 7.5%. Hazy and deep reddish brown colour, moderate to small off-white to beige head. Aroma of dark dried fruits, particularly prunes and raisins, also hints of molasses and brown sugar. Very fruity flavour, notes of apricot and raisins, a moderate acidity, not too sweet, moderate hops. Unusual and nice to drink.

355 ml bottle, as Captain Lawrence Effortless IPA Session Ale, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%, IBU 45. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Pleasant aroma of citrussy hops, also hints of pine. Smooth mouthfeel. Lovely and refreshing medium dry flavour, well balanced with citrussy and piney hops. A winner, especially for the summer months.

750 ml clear bottle, vintage 2021, from Vinmonopolet Stavanger - Hinna. Apple variety is Aroma. ABV is 7.8%. Pale golden colour, pours sparkling with a large but shortlived white head. Aroma of oxidised apples, a hint of hops and cheese(!). Nice and semi-dry flavour of fresh and oxidised apples, a hint of sulphites, dry-ish finish with a hint of hops.

750 ml clear bottle, vintage 2020, from the cidery. ABV is 8.5%. Crystal clear and very pale straw colour, pours sparkling with a large but shortlived white head. Strong "perfumed" aroma of sweet eating apples. Possibly Rubinstep? (Their n/a apple juice is from that apple variety.) Fairly light bodied for its strength. Medium dry, crisp and refreshing apple flavour. Might well buy again.

12 fl. oz. bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Deep golden to orange colour, hazy, big white head. Very nice aroma of fruity Crystal hops, notes of oranges and tropical fruits. The flavour is distinctly hoppy from start to finish, "bitter" - well yes indeed, but not "brutal". Fairly dry, a more pronounced maltiness would not hurt. Still, a very pleasant and drinkable beer as it is.

Hazy brownish golden colour, big head, slightly off-white. Strong and lovely aroma of ripe bananas and cloves. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is reasonably malty for a hefeweizen, with distinct notes of cloves. Very moderate hops. The alcohol is well hidden. Good beer.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Brown colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Malty aroma, notes of toffee and caramel. Malty flavour too, not too sweet, a hint of toffee again, a slight fruitiness, moderate earthy hops in the finish. Well balanced.

500 ml test bottle from the brewery. ABV is 4.5%. Hazy golden colour, large white head. Lovely and fairly complex aroma of hops - notes of grapefruit, tropical fruits, pine and spruce - some mild spicy notes too. Very hoppy flavour throughout, with the same elements as the aroma, and a sharpish bitter finish. The mouthfeel is better than I feared for a 4.5% beer. This is a beer I expect will sell well.

440 ml can, from KWM Wines & Sprits. ABV is 6.4%. Hazy brownish-orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma of grapefruity and piney American hops. The flavour is not too sweet, but has a sufficient malty base, followed by notes of grapefruit, bitter oranges and resin, and a distinctly bitter finish.

750 ml corked & caged bottle, Oude Kriek (season 19|20) Blend No. 75, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.3%. Hazy red colour, no head. Aroma of sour cherries, cherry kernels, farmhouse, oak and a hint of peat. The flavour has sour cherries, lemons and brettanomyces galore, also oak and a hint of peat.
