Smooth flavour, medium sweet, chocolate and oatmeal again, low bitterness. Original rating: Shared 500 ml bottle at local tasting, from Oddbins Chiswick. BB 06/2014. ABV is 5.8%. Black colour, minimal tan head. Aroma of oats, chocolate and mild coffee. Smooth flavour, oats, coffee and chocolate again, also liquorice.

May 2015: Kinn Bresjnev Sovjet Staut, 750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.0%. Hopped with Fuggles. Pitch black colour, moderate but lasting tan head. Strong dryish roasty aroma, notes of roast malts and coffee, some woodwork too. Medium dry flavour, just enough residual swetness to carry through the strong roasty notes of coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Fairly bitter finish, both from the hops and the roast malts.

Hoppy flavour as expected, rich body but not too sweet. Flavour of grapefruit, pine needles and resin, hints of yellow stonefruits and tropical fruits, distinct bitterness in the finish and aftertaste.

July 2020: 355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 13.7%. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma of bourbon and molasses, hints of fusel alcohols, also notes of oak, chocolate, coconut and vanilla. Warming mouthfeel, very moderate carbonation. Sweet flavour, with the same elements as the aroma, the bourbon notes are very distinct. Low bitterness.

July 2020: 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.1%. Gusher bottle. Slightly hazy golden colour, huge and coarse white head. Pleasant aroma of brettanomyces, farmhouse kitchen, citrus, oak and apple cider vinegar. The flavour is quite dry and moderately sour, notes of brettanomyces and citrus again, fairly distinct bittering hops, a hint of salt.

Strong aroma of roast malts, coffee and vanilla (no surprise), also chocolate and some caramel. Medium sweet and roasty flavour with coffee in the driver’s seat, also plenty of chocolate, vanilla and caramel. A nice dessert beer.

Interesting aroma of spicy and fruity hops, notes of yellow stonefruits, pine, juniper and spruce. Light bodied as expected, citric and fizzy mouthfeel. Citric flavour, also the same elements as the aroma. The finish seems more bitter than 22 IBU. Good beer.

Interesting beer, without hops.

Slightly hazy golden colour, huge white head. Pleasant aroma of white wine, oak and mild spicy hops. Light bodied for its strength. The flavour is fairly crisp and dry, with mild spicy notes, hints of oak and white wine.

Decent hops, well balanced. Refreshing. I'm upping the score several points. Original rating: Cask 1/3 pint, gravity dispense, at the 16th Twickenham Beer & Cider Festival. Pale golden colour, small white head. Moderate aroma of lemons. Lemony flavour all right, but not much more than that. Thin body.

The flavour is not too sweet, but has the same elements as the aroma, citrus and sprucetips up front. Moderate bitterness.

May 2013: Shared 330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 10.5%. Deep golden to amber colour, moderate off-white head. Classic Belgian dubbel & quadruple aroma, notes of brown kandij sugar, dark dried fruits and mild spices. Same elements in the flavour, easy drinking for a quadruple.

Aug. 2013: 500 ml bottle, shared by a neighbour. ABV is 6.0%. Copper colour, moderate white head. Pleasant malty aroma and flavour with fruitcake, stewed fruits and some caramel. The hops are moderate, but nicely balanced. A typical English ESB / strong pale ale, much to my liking.
