Aroma of cherrywood smoked malts, hints of smoked salmon and smoked meat. The mouthfeel is surprisingly citric. Flavour of citrus, berries and smoked malts with an ashy dry finish, moderate bitterness. A good and unusual smoked Rotbier.

Aroma of fruity hops and crushed white grapes, white wine, flowers, herbs and spices. Citric and herbal / spicy flavour, with a certain hopburn (which I like), moderate bitterness.

March 2022: 440 ml can, batch #100, from Vinmonopolet Madla. ABV is 10%. Opaque yellow to orange colour, huge white head. Intense aroma of oranges and other citrus fruits, also various tropical fruits. Sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, also notes of sprucetips, the alcohol is noticeable but not disturbing, low bitterness. Good beer, but maybe a bit too far out on the sweet side.

330 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.6%. Very pale and nearly clear straw colour, large white head. Aroma of spicy saison yeast, melon and stewed pale fruits, also herbal hops. The flavour is moderately sweet, but still fairly crisp and refreshing, with the same elements as the aroma.

Pale golden colour. Pours sparkling with a huge but shortlived white head. Distinct aroma and flavour of Ingridmarie apples, hints of oak and sulphites.

May 2013: On tap at Haand Festival 2013, Drammen. Dark orange to red colour, moderate white head. Moderate but pleasant aroma of fruity hops and berries. Well balanced flavour, lovely hoppy and fruity character on a background of smooth malts, hints of oak and spices. Närke quality!

Both aroma and flavour have a nice hoppy character, with citrus and tropical fruits, but of course you can't get an impression of each of the 40 different hop varieties that are used. Still pleasant and nice to drink. Might well buy again.

May 2014: 650 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 7.5%. Ingredients include lemongrass, coriander, kaffir lime, lemon and grapefruit peel. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of lemongrass, coriander and citrus fruits / citrus peel. Spicy and citrussy flavour, with distinct notes of said ingredients. Hoppy and spicy finish. Refreshing and enjoyable. Would buy again.

Oct. 2015: 650 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 8%. Cloudy deep golden to brownish colour, moderate to low white head. Strong hoppy aroma, notes of pine, spruce and tropical fruits. Distinctly hoppy flavour too, medium dry, notes of pine and grapefruit, hints of crushed white grapes and tropical fruits. Bitter aftertaste. Very good. Would certainly buy again.

Nov. 2012: 500 ml bottle, nicked by hand from the rightful owner (who got it as a gift from New Zealand). ABV is 6.0%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Lovely aroma of Nelson Sauvin hops (and probably other NZ hops), notes of white grapes and crushed gooseberries. Light bodied for its strength. The flavour has distinct notes of NZ hops, "herbal" and dry white wine and green gooseberries up front, pine in the finish. Good stuff.

On tap at Mandag i Annen, Cardinal, Stavanger. Black colour, tan head. The aroma and flavour reveal that there is a very decent and basic imperial stout underneath here, so what is the point with the mango? I suspect that it is here just because it is considered "fashionable" (the moderate addition of chili I can understand - sort of). Well, the moderate mango does not taste bad - it just does not bring anything of value to the beer. Still, the beer is very drinkable.

June 2016: 330 ml unlabelled bottle at Mikkeller Bar, Aarhus. Brown color, large white head. Aroma and flavour very much like the ordinary Orval, with "farmhouse" and "spicy" notes, distinct hops. It is quite impressive that so much flavour can be put into a beer of this moderate ABV.

Oct. 2018: 473 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 17.2%. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Aroma of roast malts, roasted nuts, vanilla, chocolate, oak and coffee. Soft carbonation, soft mouthfeel for its strength. Sweet flavour, with notes of roast malts, marshmallows, chocolate, vanilla, roasted nuts, spices and coffee. Moderate bittering hops. Flavour bomb!
