Rerate, 355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.7%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Large beige head. Dryish roasty aroma blends in with some fruity hoppy notes, hints of liquorice and sea water. Medium sweet flavour with distinct roasty notes, strong coffee, hints of liquorice and chocolate, followed by a very hoppy finish with resinous and grapefruity notes. Original rating: Shared bottle at hotel room tasting. Black colour, beige head. Very good aroma and flavour, hoppy and moderately roasty. Will definitely buy again when / if I can find it.

440 ml can, from KWM Wines & Spirits. ABV is 11%. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Aroma of roast malts, chocolate / cocoa, hints of coffee and chili. Warming mouthfeel. The flavour is too sweet, with the same elements as the aroma, but now with more distinct chili, which leaves a moderate but nice chili throatburn.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 4.9%. Opaque dirty yellow colour, huge white head. Aroma of various tropical fruits, also notes of citrus, pine and herbs. Full mouthfeel for its ABV. The slightly sweet flavour has again notes of said fruits and herbs, also hints of honey melon.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Deep golden to amber colour, moderate creamy head. Distinct aroma of bourbon, oak and vanilla. The mouthfeel is fairly light for its strength. Medium dry flavour, again with distinct notes of bourbon, oak and vanilla. Good beer, but demands that you like bourbon (I do). A little more hoppy bitterness would not hurt, though.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10%. Black colour, large to moderate tan head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate and roasted hazelnuts. Soft mouthfeel. Sweet flavour but not cloying, notes of moderately roasted malts and loads of caramel, also hazelnuts and hints of chocolate, very moderate hops. Nice to drink.

355 ml bottle, vintage 2015, in Nevada City. Amber to copper colour, large white head. Pleasant aroma of fresh hops, herbal and fruity notes. The flavour is also well hopped throughout, but the bitterness is not extreme for an IPA. A very decent and enjoyable beer.

Dry and roasty flavour, roast malts and coffee, hints of liquorice and dark bitter chocolate, moderate bittering hops in the finish. Nice beer.

500 ml swingtop bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.4%. Hazy golden colour, huge white head. Strong aroma of ripe bananas and banana-flavoured candy / bubble gum, also notes of cloves. Refreshing flavour, some sweetness but not too much, notes of banana, citrus and cloves. In other words: a typical well made Hefe-Weissbier, which is good enough for me, as I love this beer style, esp. in summer.

500 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.6%. Black colour, moderate tan head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, dark chocolate, mild coffee and chili peppers, a hint of blueberries. Relatively light bodied. The flavour is slightly on the dry side, with the same elements as the aroma, a very moderate burn from the Scotch Bonnet peppers. Low bitterness.

750 ml "champagne" bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7%. Red colour, large pink head. Strong sourish-fruity aroma of ripe red berries (= cherries, raspberries and cranberries), also notes of oak and farmhouse. Lovely clean sour & fruity flavour with a strong presence of said berries, some sweetness but not too much. Refined and interesting, but still refreshing and easy drinking for its strength and age.

Shared bottle at Bryne tasting. Reddish colour, no head. Nice aroma of brettanomyces / farmhouse, red wine and oak. Moderately sour flavour with the same elements, quite nice.

Feb. 2016: 500 ml bottle, from Matkroken Stokka. BB date 28. April 2014. ABV is 4.4%. Black colour, moderate but lasting tan head. Sweetish malty and lightly roasty aroma, more malts and caramel than coffee, also notes of chocolate and vanilla. Smooth flavour, delightful lightly roasted quality malts, some sweetness but not too much, notes of chocolate, toast and mild coffee, moderate hops. Definitely a beer I’d buy again.
