Vinous aroma, notes of dark dried fruits and oak, also some initial notes of dust. Sweet and vinous flavour, notes of old port, dark dried fruits and oak, hints of chocolate and smoke, decent hops in the finish. Very good.

355 ml bottle, from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. ABV is not mentioned on the label. Cloudy orange-brown colour, large off-white head. Lovely aroma of American hops, notes of citrus and tropical fruits, hints of pine forest. The hoppy flavour has notes of pine and grapefruit, and is fairly dry. Bitter aftertaste. Quite good.

330 ml bottle with tear-off cap, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. ABV is 5%. Very dark brown to black colour, large beige head. Roasty aroma with notes of mild coffee and dark chocolate, a hint of wood and bonfires, also hints of hops. Very nice roasty flavour, fairly dry, notes of coffee, hints of dark bitter chocolate and wood, decent hops throughout. Not extreme in any way, just well balanced and highly drinkable.

355 ml bottle, as Green Flash Hop Head Red Ale, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg, Denmark. ABV is 6.4%. Reddish brown colour, large off-white head. Nice and strong aroma of Amarillo hops, notes of spruce, orange marmalade and caramel. Well hopped flavour throughout (spruce / pine and grapefruit), on a fairly malty caramel background, nicely balanced. Moreish. A beer that easily could become one of my regulars, if it were available in Norway.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Deep golden to amber colour, hazy. Moderate white head. Beguiling aroma of Belgian ale yeast, malts and kandij sugar, with distinct spicy and fruity notes. The fairly complex flavour is sweet and fruity, but not cloying, and the sweetness is balanced by a distinct spicy character and tolerable hops. Not a quick thirstquencher, but a truly enjoyable beer!

00 ml bottle, as The Black Rooster Stout Oak’n Islay Edition, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. ABV is 6.7%. Pitch black colour, large to moderate brown head. Nice aroma, roasty, coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, tar, liquorice, Islay whisky with notes of peat smoke, oak, vanilla, sea water and old rope. The flavour is medium sweet (or medium dry, if you like), with strong notes of peat / smoke, ashes, Islay whisky and roasted malts / coffee. A slight unwanted acidity and some salty notes. The hops are quite moderate.

Lovely aroma of American hops, notes of citrus fruits, tropical fruits and spruce. Medium body. The flavour has moderate notes of grapefruit and spruce / pine, not extreme in any way. Very enjoyable.

660 ml paper wrapped bottle, kindly shared by my beerpal Olav, as De Dochter van de Korenaar Embrasse Belgian Ale Special Edition Matured on Whisky Barrels. ABV is 9%. OG 1085, FG 1015. Bottle No. 15323. Ruby colour, large beige head. Spicy and vinous aroma. Distinct spicy and vinous flavour, notes of oak, hints of chocolate and liquorice. Good stuff.

500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 8.0%. Cloudy very dark brown colour, large tan head. Nice aroma of brown malts, bakery and banana split, a hint of cloves. The flavour is refreshing for its strength, notes of brown malts, brown bread, spices and banana, hints of chocolate, very moderate hops. The alcohol is well hidden. Good beer!

750 ml clear bottle, vintage 2021, from Vinmonopolet Hinna. ABV is 7.8%. Clear pale golden colour, pours sparkling with a white head that actually lasts a while. Pleasant aroma of Gravenstein apples. Medium sweet flavour of Gravenstein apples, a hint of sulphites.

500 ml can, from Seven Cellars. ABV is 6.2%. Cloudy pale yellow colour, large white head. Aroma of citrus zest and yuzu juice, notes of spruce too. "Spritzy", citric and slightly peppery mouthfeel. The flavour is very fruity and hoppy but not too sweet, with the same elements as the aroma. Low bitterness. Refreshing and very enjoyable.

Pleasant aroma of hops and moderately roasted malts, hints of seaside (the oysters? - or is it just my imagination?). Silky smooth and very pleasant flavour, mild roasty notes, well balanced hops. Truly enjoyable, impossible to dislike.

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Dark mahogany coloured beer, huge beige creamy head with good retention. Lovely aroma of Christmas spices, anise and English liquorice. Extremely rich mouthfeel. Powerful malty sweetness in the flavour, with an abundancy of Christmas spices, anise and English liquorice. Hints of juniper berries and burnt caramel. Lots of liquorice in the long aftertaste.

440 ml can, from KWM Wines & Spirits. ABV is 5%. Hazy pale yellow colour, moderate white head. Nice aroma of mango, pineapple and papaya, hints of pine. Smooth flavour of said fruits, also citrus, not too sweet, hints of sprucetips and pine needles, but the bitterness is moderate to low. Good beer.

330 ml bottle, as Homborsund Svartskjær Belgisk Quadrupel. ABV is 10%, IBU 40. Hops are Polaris and Saaz. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Aroma of malts, caramel, brown kandij sugar syrup and dark dried fruits. Rich mouthfeel, warming throatfeel. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, with more roast malts than most quads, but is not as sweet as the aroma made me fear. Quite enjoyable to drink.

March 2015: 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. BB date was 09.2013, appears to have cellared well. ABV is 5.5%. Black colour, moderate tan head. Decent aroma of chocolate / cocoa and coffee. The flavour is neither too sweet nor too dry. Notes of chocolate, vanilla, mild coffee and moderate but noticeable hops. Well balanced and enjoyable.

Febr. 2021: 440 ml can, as Cloudwater Crop Year 2019 Yakima Chief Hops Sample Hand Selected DDH IPA - a taste of crop year 2019, featuring Simcoe, Citra, Loral and Sabro from Yakima Chief Hops. Purchased from Seven Cellars. ABV is 6%. Cloudy yellow colour, moderate to small white head. Lovely aroma of various citrus fruits, also tropical fruits and spruce. Citric mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Smooth and pleasant flavour of fruity hops, the same elements as the aroma. Not too sweet, and not very bitter. Very enjoyable.
