Pleasant aroma of American hops, with notes of oranges, grapefruit and pine. Pleasant and well balanced flavour with the same elements, not too sweet, and not too bitter despite its 70 IBU. Went well with my sole meunière and frites.

Moderate carbonation, smooth mouthfeel. Pleasant flavour with the same elements as the aroma, not too sweet, low bitterness. Enjoyable, might buy again.

Distinct aroma of dark malts, molasses, Jack Daniels whiskey, vanilla and oak, a hint of toasted coconut. Rich and warming mouthfeel. Sweet flavour, with the same elements as the aroma.

375 ml corked & caged bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10.5%. Mahogany colour, large to moderate off-white head. Aroma of dust, oak, armagnac and mild spices. Fizzy mouthfeel. Rich flavour with distinct notes of oak and armagnac, also brown kandij sugar, vanilla, dark dried fruits and mild spices.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11%. Colour mid between mahogany and ebony, moderate to low beige head. Lovely aroma, malty with strong notes of brown kandij sugar and caramel, also notes of dark dried fruits, hints of mild spices, leather and oak. Malty and medium sweet flavour, notes of dark dried fruits, brown sugar and caramel again, also hints of mild spices, chocolate and oak, moderate hops in the finish. Moderately warming mouthfeel. Excellent stuff.

750 ml corked & caged bottle, vintage 2015-2016, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.0%. Very dark brown to black colour, large beige head. Vinous aroma, notes of farmhouse, oak and lightly roasted malts. Medium sour flavour, notes of brettanomyces, red wine vinegar, oak and roast malts.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Herbarium. ABV is 8.1%. Black colour, large to moderate tan head. Aroma of roast malts and mild coffee, hints of dark chocolate and liquorice. Rich mouthfeel. The flavour is medium sweet, with the same elements as the aroma, and a slightly salty finish. Moderate hops, a little more bittering hops would not hurt. A fine beer as it is, though.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. ABV is 9.8%. 46 EBU. Pitch black colour, small tan head. Aroma of roast malts, Scotch whisky, oak and sherry, a hint of peat smoke. Smooth mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. The medium sweet flavour has notes of roast malts, peat smoke, iodine, whisky, oak and decent bittering hops, also fruity hints of prunes and sherry. Well balanced and enjoyable.

Shared 500 ml bottle. ABV is 9%. Nice aroma of roast malts, distinct notes of liquorice, hint of chocolate. The flavour is very roasty, again with distinct notes of liquorice. Not too sweet. 440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.2%. Hazy yellow to orange, moderate white head. Aroma of citrus fruits, hints of tropical fruits and dusty malts. Smooth mouthfeel. Pleasant fruity flavour, lovely citrus and tropical fruits again, decent malts, but not too sweet. Low but sufficient bitterness. Enjoyable.

Pleasant, interesting and complex aroma: notes of brettanomyces / farmhouse, dry white wine, mild spices, vanilla, hints of yellow plums and tropical fruits. Crisp and dry flavour, oak, vanilla, oaked and dry white wine, a slight acidity, mild spices, moderate but noticeable bittering hops.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Cloudy yellow colour, white head. Pleasant aroma of pine, spruce and citrus, hints of mango and other tropical fruits. Soft mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, also some lactose. A certain hopburn, but not unpleasant.

Aroma of malts, oak, vanilla, bourbon whiskey, a hint of crushed rowanberries. Sweet flavour with distinct notes of malts, oak and bourbon, again a hint of rowanberries. Good beer.

Jan. 2020: Shared 750 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. Very dark brown colour. beige head. Aroma of red wine, brettanomyces and oak, hints of red wine vinegar. The flavour is not too sweet, nor too sour, but has distinct notes of red wine, brett and oak. Well rounded and balanced, enjoyable.

375 ml waxed bottle, batch #1389, 2020 vintage, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 13.1%. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma of roast malts, molasses, fusel, bourbon, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and oak. Sweet flavour, with the same elements as the aroma (minus the fusel), pleasant. Warming throatfeel.

May 2013: On tap at Haand Festival 2013, Drammen. Black colour, creamy tan head. Mild but pleasant roasty aroma, notes of dark chocolate and mild coffee. Very well balanced flavour, distinctly roasty without ever being rough and coarse, smooth coffee and dark chocolate again, decent hops throughout.

Sept. 2006: RBESG 2006 Grand Tasting. ABV is 6.3%, OG is 1.070. Lovely chocolate aroma, roasty with notes of toffee too, hints of tar and liquorice. Flavour is malty and moderately roasty, pastry notes. Another fine beer from one of my favourite breweries.

473 ml can, as Evil Twin / Prairie Even More Bible Belt, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 13%. Pitch black colour, large to moderate tan head. Aroma of chocolate / cocoa, roast malts, mild coffee, vanilla, only a hint of chili. Rich mouthfeel. The moderately sweet flavour has the same elements as the aroma, but the chilies are more pronounced now, with a hint of smoke (smoked chilies? - or a little smoked malts?). A slight chili burn in the aftertaste, moderate bittering hops.

April 2018: 650 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.5%. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Intense aroma of roast malts, coffee, cinnamon, almonds, cocoa, vanilla and chili. Rich mouthfeel. Medium sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma (they are all actual ingredients), moderate hops. The habanero chilies leave a very subtle burn in the finish. Impressive beer.

473 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7%. Hops are Amarillo, Citra, Mosaic and Sabro. Hazy orange colour, large white head. Distinct aroma of pine and spruce, also hints of orange peel, grapefruit and herbs. Citric and fizzy mouthfeel. Flavour of oranges, grapefruit and tropical fruits, followed by a distinct resinous bitterness. Good beer.
