500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 6.5% - unless there is a typo on the rear bottle label (brewery website says 8.5%). Pitch black colour, big brown head. Fine aroma of tar and strong coffee, also hints of smoke, salt water and liquorice. The flavour is smoky and salty with notes of tar and strong bitter coffee. Also bitter hops in the finish. Quite dry. Good stuff, but I’d like a little more sweetness.

The flavour is roasty with strong notes of coffee, fairly dry, hints of liquorice and dark chocolate, maybe some smoke too. "Dusty" and bitter finish and aftertaste.

The flavour is moderately roasty with notes of chocolate, mild coffee, vanilla and oak, hints of caramel and liquorice. Medium sweet, moderate bitterness. Far from the heaviest imperial stout I’ve had, but nice and drinkable.

The flavour is roasty and quite dry, with a hint of acidity. Notes of coffee and ashes. Roasty and hoppy bitterness in the afteraste.

The aroma is first surprisingly moderate, some roasty notes, mild coffee, hints of chocolate and liquorice. Improves as the beer warms up a little. Rich and warming mouthfeel. The flavour is roasty, malty and fairly sweet, notes of sweetened strong coffee, dark bitter chocolate and English liquorice, with a pronounced hoppy bitterness throughout. Alcohol is noticeable. Bitter aftertaste. A couple years in the cellar might be a good idea.

500 ml bottle, UK style barleywine, vintage 2008, kindly shared by my beerpal Christian. ABV is 10.6%. Beautiful ruby colour, big off-white to beige head. Strong vinous and oaky aroma, notes of dark dried fruits and caramel. Sweet flavour but not extreme, notes of dark dried fruits and oak again, hoppy bitterness in the finish. A good beer from the (now sadly defunct) Danish HaandBryggeriet.

500 ml bottle, kindly shared by my beerpal Christian. ABV is 11%. Brew #20, "brewed 2006, bottled 2007, drinkable from 2008, good at least until 2012"". Very dark ruby colour, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Lovely aroma of dark dried fruits (incl. raisins), oak, dark malts, vinous notes. The flavour has much the same elements as the aroma, with tolerable hops in the finish.

500 ml bottle, at Schouskjelleren, Oslo. ABV is 7.1%. Black colour, large tan head. Lovely aroma of hops, fruity and resinous notes. The flavour is distinctly hoppy with piney and resinous notes, also roasty notes (coffee). Roasty bitter aftertaste.

Lovely aroma of chocolate, cocoa and vanilla, hints of marshmallows. Fairly light bodied. Medium sweet flavour of chocolate, cocoa and vanilla again. Low bitterness.

330 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.4%. Black colour, creamy tan head. Aroma of fruity and piney hops, hints of roast malts and chocolate. The flavour has plenty of piney hops with some fruit, medium dry, also roasty notes of coffee and dark chocolate.

473 ml can, as Collective Arts Liquid Arts Festival Series Surround Sound V.3 (Columbus, Simcoe & Galaxy), from Bestofbeers, Denmark. ABV is 8.2%. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Strong and pleasant hoppy aroma, notes of citrus, tropical fruits and pine. The flavour is refreshing (for its strength), notes of said fruits and pine again, balanced by a moderate malty sweetness. The bitterness is moderate though.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Dark amber colour, creamy off-white head. Aroma of bourbon, oak and vanilla, hints of molasses and fusel alcohols. Smooth and pleasant flavour, bourbon, oak and vanilla again, hints of brown kandij sugar but not very sweet. Warming mouthfeel.

750 ml corked & caged bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10.5%. BB date 06-2014. Hazy orange-brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of mild spices, caramel, brown kandij sugar, dark dried fruits, spice cake. The flavour is rich, spicy, full of dark dried fruits, and very pleasant - but not too sweet. Sufficient hops, and dangerously drinkable.

355 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Black colour, large beige head. Aroma of roast malts, coffee and dark chocolate. The flavour has a slight sweetness, distinct notes of coffee but not overdone, also chocolate and decent hops, hints of roasted nuts. Good beer.

330 ml bottle, soon available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.6%. Beautiful clear reddish brown colour, large off-white head. Pleasant aroma of malts, caramel, brown kandij sugar and mild Christmas spices. Relatively light bodied for its strength and style. The flavour is not as sweet as I feared, but has otherwise the same elements as the aroma. Mild spices and very moderate hops in the finish. Please disregard that it is brewed by the biggest brewery corporation in the world - this is a good beer!

Sample from can at HaandBryggeriet tasting, Cardinal Pub & Bar. ABV is 7%. Black colour, creamy tan head. Pleasant aroma and flavour of roast malts, dark chocolate and coffee. I tend to prefer stouts where the roast malts alone deliver the coffee flavour, but here the coffee addition is moderate and well balanced. A very good stout!

The flavour is medium sweet with spices / pepper, citrus and herbal and earthy bittering hops. The alcohol is noticeable.

Cask at Copenhagen Beer Festival, as Fuller's Past Masters 1893 Double Stout. . Black colour. Sweetish aroma with roasty notes of coffee, liquorice and dark chocolate. Fairly sweet flavour with distinct roasty notes, coffee, liquorice and dark chocolate again, hints of dark dried fruits, some bitterness. Well balanced and truly enjoyable.

330 ml can, from the brewery . ABV is 8.0%. The black can was hard to open. The opaque yellow-ish beer has a huge white head. Lovely aroma of various tropical fruits, hints of spruce. Sweet flavour with notes of tropical fruits, some citrus too, with a moderate resinous bitterness in the finish. A bit too far out on the sweet side, otherwise a good beer.

Shared bottle at local tasting. Pitch black beer with a moderate tan head. Roasty and malty aroma and flavour, with notes of strong coffee, liquorice and dark bitter chocolate. Rich and full mouthfeel, warming, maybe a bit too much carbonation. Medium bitterness in the finish. All in all mighty impressive.

500 ml bottle, as Thisted Limfjordsporter Thy Whisky Fad 49, from Føtex Ebeltoft. ABV is 8.5%. Pitch black colour, large tan head. Aroma of roast malts, liquorice, peat smoke, smoked meat and whisky. Fairly smooth and easy drinking flavour, despite distinct peat smoke and all the other elements recogniseable from the aroma. Fairly well balanced.
