On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Murky greyish-brownish colour, moderate white head. Aroma of over-ripe berries and fruits. Sweet (too sweet) flavour of stale and unfresh fruits. Disappointing.

300 ml bottle, as Budels Goudblond, Kölsch type, from Vinmonopolet Sandnes Kvadrat. ABV is 6%. Clear golden colour, moderate to small white head. Aroma of malts and dust, only a hint of floral hops. Citric mouthfeel. Flavour of malts and herbal hops, a hint of citrus, dry finish.

August 2021: 330 ml can, at Brakanes Hotel, Ulvik. I think I also have a can of this one at home. Brewed for Hardanger Bryggeri at Arendals Bryggeri. ABV is 4.7%. Clear and pale golden colour, moderate white head. Standard pilsener aroma, moderate sweetish grassy and floral notes. Clean taste, some sweetness but not too much, more malty than hoppy.

500 ml can, from Rema 1000, Tau. Gluten free, 3.7%. Clear golden colour, moderate white head. Sweetish aroma, notes of flowers and yellow plums. Citric mouthfeel, light bodied, but not too bad for a 3.7% beer. The flavour has some citrus and moderate malts, medium dry, moderate herbal hops. Better than I feared.

July 2019: 750 ml clear bottle, from Vinmonopolet Stavanger Verksgata. ABV is 9%. Deep golden colour, pours moderately sparkling with a moderate white head that actually lasts a while. Weird "perfumed" aroma, I wonder which apple varieties they have used here? Semi dry flavour of apples, again these weird "perfumed" and soapy notes. Don't think I'll buy this one again, there are better Norwegian ciders at Vinmonopolet.

500 ml can, from a random grocery store, Tau. ABV is 4.3%. Clear copper to brown colour, small off-white head. Aroma of malts, toffee and caramel. Light bodied. The flavour is not too sweet, with hints of caramel and Christmas spices. Better than I feared.

440 ml can, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 5.0%. Hazy "ancient pink" colour, large off-white pinkish head. Aroma of raspberry and cherry candy, hints of vanilla. The flavour is medium sweet and moderately sour, with the same elements as the aroma. A beer for kids who are too young to drink it.

On tap at Døgnvill Burger Bjørvika, Oslo. I was asked if I wanted draught or can, I went for draught, this was probably a bad choice, as the beer was too yeasty. Golden brown to reddish brown colour, moderate white head. Malty and yeasty aroma and flavour, moderate hops. Might sample again from can.

August 2019: 330 ml green bottle with tear-off cap, probably from Det Gode Brygg, Sandnes. ABV is 4.6%. Clear pale golden colour, huge white head. Fresh Heineken-like aroma of lightstruck hops, notes of newmown grass. Some grain and wort in the background. Acceptable pilsener flavour, some citric notes, followed by grain and very moderate bittering hops.

440 ml can, from Holdbart Klepp. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy golden colour, large to moderate white head. Strong sweetish aroma of malts and new-mown grass. The flavour has some malts and moderate hops, a hint of smoke.

330 ml can, as Fjordfolk St. Leopold's Vienna Lager, from Holdbart Klepp. ABV is 4.7%, IBU 25. Moderately hazy deep golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Malty aroma with hints of nuts and caramel. Malty flavour too, notes of roast nuts and a little caramel, burnt breadcrumbs, fairly distinct bittering hops in the finish.

August 2014: Halfpint on tap at The Last Post, Guernsey, as Breda XXX Premium Lager Beer, and 500 ml can at the Fauxquets Valley Campsite, as Breda XXX Royal Lager, ABV 5%. I assume this is the same beer. Golden colour, moderate white head. Standard pilsener aroma, some malts and grain, sweetish grassy notes. Flavour notes keg: The flavour is rather bland, no obvious faults other than the hops being far too moderate. Flavour notes can: Malty and slightly alcoholic flavour, despite only 5% ABV. Moderate but noticeable hops.

December 2018: 500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 14%. Brewed on apple juice, honey and meadowsweet. No water added. Golden colour, pours moderately sparkling. Strong medicinal aroma of meadowsweet and alcohol. Sweet flavour of honey, dessert apples and alcohol, with bitter notes of the meadowsweet. Too boozy for me, really. Still drinkable.

June 2020: 500 ml can, from Bunnpris Sauda. ABV is 4.5%. Low carb, gluten free. Clear pale golden colour, moderate white head. Very moderate aroma, hints of citrus and herbal hops. Slightly citric mouthfeel, light bodied as expected. The flavour is fairly dry, with distinct herbal hops, moderately bitter.

October 2023: 330 ml bottle, as Bømmeløen Breiđablik Pale Ale, from Nærbutikken, Åkrafjordtunet. ABV is 4.7%. Nearly clear pale golden colour, large white head. Wheaty, grainy, yeasty and citric aroma. The flavour has the same elements, very moderate hops, slightly spicy finish.

January 2019: 330 ml bottle, as CISK Pilsner Premium, at The Red Lion, Gibraltar. Pale golden colour, moderate white head. Standard pilsener aroma and flavour, some grassy and herbal hops. Not too bad.

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.0%. Hazy pale golden colour, huge white head. Distinct and unusual spicy / peppery aroma, also floral notes. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is indeed "bone dry", with loads of green peppercorns (= too much), overpowers the more subtle floral notes. Peppery and hoppy bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Not my favourite this one.

The flavour has a slight malt sweetness, with a fairly sharp and slightly metallic and peppery bitterness in the finish.

500 ml can, from SPAR Hirtshals. ABV is 5.0%. Clear pale golden colour, large white head. Sweetish aroma of pilsener malts and grassy and herbal hops. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is fairly bland, with a slight sweetness and moderate hops, but there are no offensive side flavours. Okay.

650 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.0%. Black colour, small tan head. Intense and sickly aroma of cherry essence, cherry kernels, marzipan and almond essence. Medium sweet flavour, you sense that there is a decent imperial stout in the background, with some chocolate, unfortunately ruined by cherry essence and almond essence.

A strange metallic bitterness makes this hyped lager no favourite of mine.

A commercial but refreshing pilsener - nothing wrong, nothing special. Rerate: Had my first can today (bottles and draught previously). Extremely light coloured, possibly watered down version for Norway? (ABV 4,7%) The one I had on tap in Holland a month ago was very light coloured too. Am I right that the colour was slightly darker a few years ago?? Anyway, it's still a drinkable pils, but not an aroma or flavour that will linger in your memory.

I bought this beer just for the fun of it - shipping beer all the way from China to Norway seems like the ultimate absurdity, if the beer isn't something extraordinary. This beer isn't. But Tsingtao is not outright bad either - it just isn't very interesting. Heineken-like aroma, neutral flavour, overly carbonated, no lasting head. Sure it would be refreshing on a summer's day in China - exporting it to Europe should be considered a waste of resources.

(500 ml bottle). The Swedish 3.5% weak grocery store version of Pripps 1828 Export (5%). Deep golden colour. Moderate hops in the aroma. Acceptable hops in the flavour and aftertaste. Not too bad for a weak Pripps beer (you don't expect much!)
