5927 | Samuel Adams Winter Lager | United States | Bock | 2.9
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Febr. 2013: 355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.5%. Chestnut-coloured beer, moderate off-white head. The aroma has some caramel, dust and grass. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has plenty of caramel but is not too sweet, also notes of brown bread, the spice addition (cinnamon, ginger, orange peel) is fairly moderate and quite mild. The bitterness is low. Certainly drinkable, but not really great. |

5929 | Pomona Island / To Øl Reflections After Jane | United Kingdom | Fruit Beer | 2.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 440 ml can, Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. ABV is 8%. Moderately hazy pink to peachy colour, some floaties, large off-white (pink-ish) head. Aroma of strawberries more than yuzu, also lactic acid and lactose. Sour flavour, too much lactic acid and strawberries, too little yuzu - but maybe that's just me. |

5930 | Nøgne Ø Sweet Leaf Matcha Ale | Norway | Spiced Beer | 2.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 330 ml bottle, from SPAR Jørpeland. ABV is 4.5%, IBU 20. Overcarbonated, my slim pilsener glass fills completely by white (or slightly off-white) foam, a hazy and brownish-golden beer appears only very slowly. Unusual aroma of tea and lemon juice. Fizzy and citric mouthfeel. Dry and weird herbal flavour of tea, hints of lemon rind. One of the least successful beers I've had from Nøgne Ø. |

Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and strawberries. The flavour is way too sweet and sticky for me, notes of sweetened coffee, chocolate, lactose, vanilla and strawberries. Unbalanced, won't buy again. |

5936 | Nøisom Cascadian APA 4.7% | Norway | American Pale Ale | 2.9
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Nov. 2013: Shared 2 liter bottle / jug, at Mandag i Annen at Cardnal (so far not in ordinary sale there). ABV is 4.7%. Aroma and flavour more like a standard English bitter or golden ale, rather than an APA. Nothing wrong with it, but fairly bland and uninteresting. |

5938 | Saint-Omer 1866 Bière d’Abbaye | France | Strong Lager | 2.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 500 ml can, from Carrefour, Cartagena, Spain. ABV is 6.2%. Deep golden colour, large white head. Strong sweetish and sugary aroma, some caramel, grassy hints. The flavour is fairly sweet, with some caramel, and the beer is not undrinkable - but it has very little to do with an "abbey beer", by any stretch of the mind. |

5939 | Theresianer Premium Lager | Italy | Helles / Dortmunder | 2.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet (bestillingsutvalget). ABV is 4.8%. Clear pale yellow colour, moderate white head. Aroma of sweetish pilsener malts and grassy and herbal hops, hints of honey. Reminds me much of their Premium Pils. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is crisp and not too sweet, still with a nice and subtle maltiness, while the the hops are more subdued than in the Premium Pils. An easy-drinking helles. |

5940 | Nøgne Ø Julesnadder (2011) | Norway | Belgian Ale | 2.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. 2011 version with Belgian yeast. Batch #704B. ABV is 4.5%. Cloudy brown colour, large beige head. Sourish aroma, infected? Also strong woody and ashy / smoked notes. The flavour is somewhat better than the aroma, quite dry, again strong woody notes, hints of ashes. Some roasted malts and hops in the finish. Seems overall unbalanced. Thin mouthfeel. Drinkable, but this is Nøgne Ø, and you expect something better than this. Won’t buy again (not untill a better version - hopefully - is released next year). |

5943 | Kona Hanalei Island IPA | United States | IPA | 2.9
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 355 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 4.5%. Golden colour, only the slightest haziness, small white head. "Perfumed" aroma of peaches, guava, passionfruit and sweet oranges. Fairly refreshing and slightly dry flavour, again "perfumed" and somewhat artificial notes of tropical fruits, some bittering hops in the finish. Not a favourite of mine. |

5946 | Ballast Point Big Eye IPA | United States | IPA | 2.9
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 355 ml bottle, from Fakta Hirtshals. BB date is hard to read, but probably 25.03.2014. Slightly hazy deep golden to amber colour, moderate to low head, slightly off-white. Strong and unpleasant aroma of stale orange marmalade and rotting fruits and vegetables. Distinctly hoppy and resinous flavour, better than the aroma, not too sweet, with a solid bitterness in the finish. |

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 355 ml can, from Helgø Meny Stadionparken. ABV is 4.5%. Pale golden colour, small white head. Sweetish and fruity aroma. 5949 | Anchor Old Foghorn Ale | United States | American Barleywine | 2.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 355 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 10%. Imported to Europe by www.bierenco.nl . Hazy deep orange-brown colour, decent pale orangey head. Intense vinous sweet, oaky and very hoppy aroma. Some liquorice too. Intense flavour too, very oaky, nearly brandy-like, plenty of hops, but unfortunately too sweet for me, there’s something unbalanced about the entire flavour profile. Cough medicine in the finish, fairly bitter aftertaste. |

5950 | Greens Endeavour Double Dark Beer | Belgium | Belgian Ale | 2.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 5 This is the second gluten free beer on the Norwegian market, Glutaner (a pale lager) was the first one. Green’s Endeavour is called a "Double Dark Beer". ABV is 6%. Website www. glutenfreebeers.co.uk . Green’s is a trademark of Charles Cooper Ltd. The beer has a dark reddish brown colour and a thick and creamy tan head. Distinct sweetish aroma and flavour that remind me more of cheap fortified wines than of beer. Notes of raisins and spices. Some hops in the aftertaste. No masterpiece, but drinkable even for people who are not "forced to" drink it by coeliac disease. |
