June 2020: Shared 750 ml bottle, vintage 2017, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.2%. Clear and very pale straw colour. Nice aroma of apples, hints of sulphites. The mouthfeel is somewhat watery. Dry flavour, little apple flavour compared to the fine ciders from Hardangergutane we had before.

440 ml can, as Slakteren The Butcher #93 Brown Ale, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.7%. Dark reddish brown colour, nearly black. Large to moderate off-white head. 375 ml corked & caged green bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.5%. Slightly hazy golden to orange colour, moderate to small white head. Aroma of brettanomyces / farmhouse, lemons, rustic kitchen and oak. Very sour flavour, nearly too sour for me, notes of brettanomyces, lemons, lactic acid, white wine vinegar and oak.

5380 Nøgne Ø Footloose Rosé Tripel Reserve Norway Abbey Tripel 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

330 ml bottle, as Nøgne Ø Footloose Rosé Tripel Reserve, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10%, IBU 30. Gusher bottle. Hazy golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma of yeast, white kandij sugar syrup, oak and rosé wine. The flavour has the same elements, and is way too yeasty. Waste of money.

5381 Carlsberg Pivo Denmark Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7

Bottle, bought in Denmark. Golden pils, moderate head. Good Saaz aroma. Light bodied, but decent bitterness in the aftertaste. An ABV of 5% would be more appropriate. The Czechs do it better, but all in all this is not a bad try of Carlsberg. A beer for the summer days.

5382 Holbæk Lillevang Pale Ale Denmark English Pale Ale 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, thanks to Tom. ABV is 6.5%. Golden colour, big white head. Fairly strong aroma of Saazer hops, grassy and herbal notes. The flavour has a distinct bitterness from start to finish (Target hops?), but not much else, neither maltiness nor hop flavour other than the bitterness. Not my favourite pale ale this one.

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml can, bought in Spain. ABV is 5%. Crystal clear pale golden colour, big white head. Sweetish and grassy aroma, some floral notes too. The flavour has a very moderate malty sweetness, with a tolerable hoppy bitterness throughout. Not exceptional, but decent.

5384 Oettinger Export Germany Helles / Dortmunder 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml can, bought in Spain. ABV is 5.4%. Crystal clear pale yellow colour, big white head. Sweetish aroma, some malts and floral hops. Fairly sweet flavour, tolerably balanced with the hops, the alcohol is noticeable though. Still better than I feared, easy drinking when cold.

5385 De Molen Man & Macht Netherlands Stout 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

750 ml corked bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 3.9%. OG 1035, FG 1009. Brewed 18. March 2010, bottled 15. April 2010. Bittering hop is Premiant, late hop Saaz. 38.4 EBU. Very carbonated, the glass fills completely by a tan foamy head, and the very dark brown (nearly black) beer appears slowly. Nice aroma of roasted malts and chocolate, some woody notes too. Light bodied, quite dry flavour with moderate roasty notes, hints of coffee, charcoal, tobacco and wood. Drinkable, but not impressive.

5386 Primátor Premium Lager 12° Czech Republic Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, ABV is 5%. Might be imported to Norway. Golden colour, big and lasting white head. Moderate "dusty" aroma, notes of hay. Fresh and soft mouthfeel, moderate carbonation in the glass. Medium sweet flavour, hints of honey and butterscotch, moderate bitterness, very drinkable but not exceptional.

5387 Grauballe Dark Christmas Denmark Spiced Beer 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, as Grauballe Dark Christmas, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 7.3%. The glass on the label promises a black beer, but the beer inside is actually copper to brown coloured, with a huge off-white to beige head. Some sediment in the bottle, making the beer murky brown in the end. Strange aroma of rotting fruits and berries, star anise and caramel. The flavour is somewhat better than the aroma, fairly sweet and malty with caramel and hints of chocolate, also some fruity and even vinous notes - and too much star anise.

Cask conditioned at the Lord Moon of the Mall, London. Copper colour, low head. Aroma of ripe fruits and malt vinegar. Rather thin mouthfeel. The flavour has some fruit, malt vinegar and moderate hops in the finish. Not impressive.

5390 Jennings Brothers Bitter United Kingdom Bitter 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, bought at Newcastle Intl Airport. ABV is 3.5%. Copper colour, moderate off-white head. Moderate aroma with some malty and nutty notes, hints of caramel and English hops. Light bodied, as expected from a 3.5% beer, but the fairly dry flavour has some nutty malts, a slight acidity, and a distinct and slightly metallic hoppy bitterness in the finish.

5391 Skands Elmegade IPA Denmark IPA 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, bought by my wife on the DFDS ferry Oslo - Copenhagen. ABV is 6.3%. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Brewed with Maris Otter malts, hop varieties unknown. Golden colour, large white head. Aroma of sweetish malts and grassy hops. The medium sweet flavour has strong notes of grassy hops, with a distinct and sharpish bitterness in the finish. Not much complexity here. Drinkable, but this is no match for first class American IPAs - nor for the best (real) English IPAs. Wouldn't buy again.

5392 Herslev Bryghus Pilsner Denmark Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. Brew #421. ABV is 5.5%. Some sediment in the bottle. Extremely pale yellow colour, slightly hazy, huge white head. Sweetish aroma of malt sugar and grassy hops. Despite some malty sweetness in the flavour, there are enough hops to make the beer feel fairly crisp. Very bitter finish and aftertaste.

5393 Saku The Cream of Dublin Estonia Irish Ale 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, arbitrary sample. ABV is 4.2%. Might be imported to Norway, if a certain pubowner (not one of your usual suspects) gets it his way. Dark ruby colour, low creamy beige head. "Dusty" boring aroma. Smooth flavour, malts and a mild roastiness, low bitterness. Closer to an Irish Red Ale than a stout IMO. Drinkable, but not exciting.

5394 Moonlight Two Weeks Notice United States Rye Beer 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Gruit brewed with meadowsweet, yarrow and bee balm. Cloudy golden colour. Nice herbal aroma. The flavour has an unusual sweetish herbal character, but lacks the balance of bittering hops (or other bittering agents).

5395 Svaneke Jule Spektakel Denmark Belgian Strong Ale 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. After reading the commercial description, my expectations were high, but the beer did not quite live up to them. Reddish brown colur, but paler than expected. Moderate malty aroma, some caramel. Did not get much of the promised complexity. The flavour has some malts and caramel, a little fruit, a little spiciness - but too little of everything. Drinkable of course, but I want something better than this for the Yuletide.

5396 Søgaard Gækkebryg Denmark American Pale Ale 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Served too warm, but I should not complain, as it was a free sample. Deep golden colour, huge white head. Floral and mild hops in both aroma and flavour. Drinkable, but not remarkable.

5397 Andrik Påske Denmark American Pale Ale 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Cloudy deep golden to brown colour, very foamy head. The American hops (Willamette, Amarillo and Columbus) are present in both aroma and flavour, but very subdued. The aroma is moderate and slightly spicy. The moderately hoppy flavour has some strange sidenotes that may be the harbingers of of an early infection.

5398 Theresianer Wit Italy Witbier 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Stylish 750 ml bottle, shared with Tom at Øl & Mat-festivalen, Oslo. ABV 5.1%. Cloudy golden colour, moderate white head. Typical witbier aroma and flavour, notes of coriander and orange peel, hardly any noticeable hops. A hint of diacetyl is not what I want in a witbier. Drinkable, but lacks "bite". Boring.

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

355 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark, as Samuel Smith's Organic Best Ale. ABV is 5%. Golden colour, large to moderate white head. Lagerish aroma, notes of grassy, herbal and fruity hops. The flavour is rather sweet, fruity and grassy, with a moderate bitterness in the finish. Lagerish mouthfeel. Drinkable, but did not blow my socks off.

500 ml bottle, from MENY Grønland Torg, Oslo. ABV is 4.3%. Pale yellow colour, large white head. Moderate aroma of smoked sausage. Ordinary helles flavour with a little smoke added. Moderate hops in the finish. Nice enough to drink, but did not blow my socks off.
