Not really my cup of tea. |

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle from NETTO, Denmark, as BB Økologisk Påske (= Organic Easter). ABV is 6.5%. Amber colour, large off-white head. Quite nice sweetish aroma of malts, caramel and grassy hops, some fruity hints too. The flavour is moderately malty and slightly sugary with hints of caramel, hints of fruit too, with a very moderate bitterness. Okay, but not impressive. |

5008 | Mack Brown Ale | Norway | Brown Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6.0%. Brown colour, huge off-white head, some sediment in the bottle. Fruity and sourish aroma with farmhouse notes, nearly gueuze-like, quite pleasant. The flavour is fruity and slightly sourish, possibly infected, but the beer is still not ruined for me. Distinct bitterness in the finish. Not your usual brown ale, but drinkable. |

5009 | Mikkeller Spontanale | Denmark | Gueuze | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 375 ml green bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 5.3%. Golden colour, large white head. Gueuze-like aroma with notes of farmhouse, horseblanket, oak and white wine vinegar. The flavour is dry and vinegary, with some oaky notes, stale hops in the peppery finish. Drinkable, but Cantillon does this better! Won’t buy again. |

5010 | Aarhus Sommer-Hvede (Filtered) | Denmark | American Wheat | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 600 ml bottle (summer 2010), from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 5%. Crystal clear pale golden colour, the bottled beer is apparently fitered (the draught version is unfiltered). Moderate but lasting white head. Ingredients include wheat malt, unrefined cane sugar, orange peel and coriander. In other words, kind of a hybrid between Belgian witbier and German Kristallweizen. Spicy aroma, notes of Belgian ale yeast, citrus and green apples. Refreshing flavour, tolerable hops with hints of coriander and citrus, some less pleasant dusty and metallic notes in the aftertaste. |

5011 | Hardanger Sider Kvasshovden | Norway | Cider | 3.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 750 ml elegant bottle, vintage 2009, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 9.0%. Extremely pale greenish-yellow whitewine-like colour, pours moderately sparkling, no head. Aroma of cider apples and eating apples, a hint of oak and sulphites. Called a "dry" cider, but the flavour is medium sweet. Notes of sweet eating apples, hints of sulphites. Overpriced. |

Large and coarse white head. Malty aroma and flavour, some fruity notes, hints of caramel, and (unfortunately) a slight infection. Still drinkable. |

5016 | Newcastle Brown Ale | United Kingdom | Brown Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 (Bottle). A good but somewhat overrated beer. Aggressively carbonated. Better in the Good Old Days when it was stronger. Rerate, draught in Newcastle: I found the colour to be darker brown than the bottled version (can that be?), and the flavour was fuller and richer - even though the pub tried to ruin it by serving it ice cold. |

5018 | Courage Best Bitter | United Kingdom | Bitter | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7 Rerate, cask at the Station Hotel, Ipswich: Aroma of English malt vinegar, hints of dishwasher liquid. Smooth flavour without too much character. Low on hops. Original rating, 3.1: (Draught). I remember this one as a decent standard bitter, nothing remarkable. |

5019 | John Smiths Extra Smooth | United Kingdom | Bitter | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 A very smooth and drinkable 'bitter', perhaps without too much character. Still, I openly admit enjoying it! Rerate nitro-can: Delete the 'perhaps' - it's DEFINITELY without too much character. I over-rated this brew the first time. It's still drinkable, but far from great! |

5021 | John Smiths Pub Draught Ale | United Kingdom | Bitter | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 This nitro-can beer is the same as the John Smith's Extra Smooth. The ABV may vary a little depending on where it's being marketed. A very smooth and drinkable 'bitter', perhaps without too much character. Still, I openly admit enjoying it! Rerate nitro-can: Delete the 'perhaps' - it's DEFINITELY without too much character. 5023 | Kulmbacher Monchshof Schwarzbier | Germany | Schwarzbier | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Sure it's black - but when I feel like anything black, I'd most likely go for any dry or imperial stout instead, any time - if given the choice. As far as German Schwarzbiers go, there are tastier ones around than this one. Disappointing lack of flavour and 'bite'. Of course it's drinkable, but I expected more. |

5024 | Marston's Firestoker | United Kingdom | Extra Special Bitter | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 (500 ml bottle). This is an ale (bitter), not a lager! Deep golden to amber colour, moderate head. Aroma is hoppy and dominant vanilla. Flavour is not sweet, quite bitter actually, and the vanilla somehow seems out of place. I guess there's a reason most beers don't smell and taste strongly of vanilla. Nice for a change of pace, though. |
