4976 | Primátor Lezák Svetlý Exkluziv 16° | Czech Republic | Strong Lager | 3.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, ABV is 7.5%. Will probably be imported to Norway soon. Deep golden colour, big white head. Aroma of malts with a hint of caramel, also floral hops, a hint of honey. The medium sweet flavour is moderately malty with some honeyish notes, a hint of caramel again. The alcohol is noticeable, but not as disturbing as in some Scandinavian lagers of this strength. Medium bitter hops in the finish. |

The flavour has a fairly decent balance between the malts and hops, some sweetness but not too much, reasonably bitter finish. A decent pils, no more, no less. |

4983 | Brussels Fruit Beer Red Fruits. | Belgium | Fruit Beer | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 330 ml bottle, as Brussels Fruit Beer Red Fruits, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 3.2%. Murky red / pink colour, huge pinkish off-white head. Pleasant sweetish aroma of mixed red fruits and berries. Sweet flavour of red fruits and berries again. Not much here to remind you that this a beer, but if you want a fruit drink with little alcohol, this one might be good enough. |

4984 | Mikkeller Funky Easter | Denmark | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 750 ml "champagne" bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.39%. Amber to brown hazy colour, big to moderate white (or slightly off-white) head. Fairly nice moderate aroma, some funky and fruity notes, also notes of dust and damp basement. The flavour is moderately funky and fairly alcoholic, medium bitter hops in the finish. Not bad, but from Mikkeller you expect something better than this. |

4985 | Rogue Juniper Pale Ale | United States | American Pale Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 12 fl. oz. bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV not declared on the bottle. Hazy pale golden colour, big white head. Sweetish aroma of pale malts with strong notes of honey, some fruity hops too. The juniper berries are not dominant. Fairly refreshing flavour, medium sweet, well hopped, the juniper berries are there but not dominant. They should have crushed the juniper berries instead of adding them whole. Okay, but not brilliant. |

4986 | Queue de Charrue Blonde 6.6% | Belgium | Belgian Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 6.6%. Brewed for Brasserie Vanuxeem by Brasserie du Bocq. Deep golden colour, slightly hazy, huge white head. Aroma of herbal and grassy continental hops, also some spicy notes. The flavour is sweet (maybe too sweet) with notes of white kandi sugar, some fruity and spicy hints. Drinkable, but not the greatest Belgian ale I’ve had. |

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Cask (handpump) at the Darlington Spring Thing Beer Festival. ABV is 4.0%. Colour somewhere between pink and orange, low head. Aroma of watered-down cherry soft drinks, a hint of marzipan. Thin mouthfeel. Flavour of a pale bitter with cherry flavouring added, very slight acidity. Definitely not a fruit lambic, but fairly refreshing. |

4990 | Merlin Dragon Slayer | United Kingdom | Extra Special Bitter | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 Cask (hand pump) at the Darlington Spring Thing Beer Festival 2011. ABV is 5.6%. Copper colour, slightly hazy. Low off-white head. Malty aroma with notes of caramel. The flavour is both malty sweet and well hopped, with a dry and very sharp bitter finish. The alcohol is noticeable. I think a cooler temperature and more CO2 would have helped this one. |

4991 | Derwent Whitwell & Marks IPA | United Kingdom | Bitter | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Cask conditioned at The Market Tavern, Durham, as Derwent Whitwell & Marks Pale Ale, but I assume this is the same beer. ABV is the same, 4.4%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma, a whiff of fruit, a hint of sulphur. Smooth flavour, some bitterness in the finish, becomes sharp in the aftertaste. |

4992 | De Hemel Marikenbier | Netherlands | Belgian Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml swingtop bottle, kindly shared by my beerpal Ivar. ABV is 6,5%. Hazy amber colour, minimal head. Aroma of sweet wort and caramel, hints of oak and honey. Low carbonation. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma makes you expect, but is still malty with hints of caramel, and has tolerable hops in the finish. |

4993 | Skands Esrum Kloster | Denmark | Spiced Beer | 3.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, bought by my wife on the DFDS ferry Oslo - Copenhagen. ABV is 7.5%. Spiced with lemon balm, lavender, rosemary, juniper berries and anise. Deep copper to mahogany coloured beer, big off-white head. Spicy aroma, unfortunately anise (which is not my favourite herb) comes up front. Also hints of caramel malts. The flavour is also spicy and herbal, with moderate notes of caramel malts. Again the anise ruins much of the pleasure for me. This would be a better beer without it. |

4994 | OHanlons Brewers Special Reserve | United Kingdom | English Barleywine | 3.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 250 ml bottle conditioned, 2010 Vintage, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 12.9%. Cloudy brown colour, minimal beige head, minimal carbonation. Intense and extremely malty and sweetish aroma, notes of oak, and molasses, hints of dark dried fruits. Warming mouthfeel. Intense flavour, strong notes of molasses, oak and extremely thick malt extract, also notes of cough syrup, liquorice and cigar tobacco. Some hoppy biterness in the finish. This a beer that probably requires 5 - 10 years’ cellaring to (hopefully) obtain a rounded and harmonious character. As "raw" as it is now, it is just too extreme. |

4995 | Ørbæk Choco Ale | Denmark | Porter | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, from SuperBest Skødstrup. ABV is 5.6%. Very dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Moderate aroma of chocolate malts and cocoa, an acidic hint of vomit brings the aroma rating down. The flavour is not as sweet as expected, the chocolate / cocoa is fairly moderate, and the malt-accented beer is quite drinkable. Light bodied, with very moderate hops. |

4996 | Ørbæk Fionia Abbey Ale | Denmark | Abbey Dubbel | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, from SuperBest Skødstrup. ABV is 6.8%. Amber to brown colour, fairly pale for a dubbel, moderate off-white head. Spicy and malty sweetish (bordering on sickly) aroma, also notes of caramel and chocolate. The flavour is very sweet, sugary and malty with loads of caramel, hardly any bitterness. Some spicy notes, incl. anise. Unbalanced, too far out on the sweet side, lacks hops and a "fresh" character. |

4997 | Jacobs Julebryg | Denmark | Bock | 3.2

Fruity / citrussy aroma, also notes of caramel and brown sugar. The flavour has moderate notes of citrussy hops on a caramel and brown sugar base. Very moderate bitterness. Not very complex. Clearly drinkable, but not my favourite Christmas beer. Wouldn’t buy again. |

4998 | Svaneke Double Brown Ale | Denmark | Brown Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, as Svaneke Double Brown Ale, from Dagli’brugsen Skødstrup. ABV is 5.7%. Unfiltered. Hazy brown colour, moderate head of good retention. Aroma of brown malts and caramel, also some fruity notes. The flavour is first fruity and refreshing, followed by distinct notes of brown and lightly roasted malts, some caramel. Moderately bitter aftertaste. Could have been better, could have been worse. |

4999 | Herslev Aspargesøl | Denmark | Spiced Beer | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7 At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Cloudy golden colour. Aroma of asparagus! Flavour of citrus and asparagus, hints of cloves. A fun experiment, but I’m sorry - I’d rather have a bowl of asparagus soup with an "ordinary" wheat beer at the side. |

5000 | Newmans Last Lion of Britain | United Kingdom | Extra Special Bitter | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 Sample from bottle at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Deep golden colour. Very moderate aroma, maybe a hint of red fruits and caramel, but not as much as promised. The flavour has moderate notes of toffee and caramel, just a hint of hops. Drinkable, but the lion did not roar. |
