March 2018: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Strong aroma of peat smoke (Laphroaig Scotch whisky) and roast malts. Medium sweet flavour, some lactose and dates, roast malts, intense notes of peat smoke, too much peat for me.

April 2013: Shared 330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 5.5%. Very dark brown colour, large off-white to beige head. Interesting sweet & sour aroma, notes of oak and spices, hints of red wine vinegar. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is not as sweet as I feared, and not extremely sour. Light bodied. Some oaky and mild spicy notes, a hint of red wine vinegar again. Minimal hops, and the finish is rather bland.

330 ml bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 6%. Hazy reddish brown colour, small beige head. Strong aroma of ripe and over-ripe raspberries. Sour flavour, intense notes of raspberries, berry vinegar, oak, hardly any hops.

Jan. 2019: 330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 7.0%. Slightly hazy, deep reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of malts with some caramel, hints of rye bread, piney hops and Christmas spices. The flavour is slightly dry but still malty, with the same elements as the aroma.

Aug. 2016: 330 ml can, at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma of fruity and floral hops, also notes of caramel. Light bodied. Medium dry flavour, only a hint of caramel, medium bitter hops, but not so much hop flavour besides the bitterness. Still quite refreshing and okay to drink.

330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, possibly Stavanger Madla. ABV is 5.4%. Deep golden colour, slightly hazy. Moderate white head. Moderate malty aroma. Soft mouthfeel. Fairly pleasant flavour, malty but not too sweet, some fruity notes, moderate herbal hops in the finish.

500 ml can, from SPAR Jørpeland. ABV is 4.7%. Nearly clear golden colour, moderate to small white head. Pleasant floral and herbal aroma of Saaz hops. Fairly crisp flavour, herbal hops again, moderate bitterness in the aftertaste. There has been many disappointments from Mack during the last few years, but this beer is not bad at all.

330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10%. Hazy brownish-orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma of citrus, hints of flowers, stewed fruits and tequila. Citric and boozy mouthfeel. Flavour of oak / tequila barrel, sweet malts, stewed fruits and peppery bittering hops. Not the best way to treat a biére de garde.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikk. ABV is 5%. Dark reddish brown colour, moderate off-white to beige head. Aroma of malts, brown bread, chocolate, caramel, burnt breadcrumbs, also herbal hops. The flavour has the same elements, not too sweet. More distinct hop bitterness than in most dunkels.

375 ml corked & caged bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 8.5%. Hazy yellow colour, minimal white head. Aroma and flavour of white wine vinegar, oak, lactic acid, mango, tangerine and guava, quite sour.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Golden to orange colour, white head. Aroma of pomegranate, caramel and mild spices. Moderately sour flavour of pomegranate, fairly dry, the mouthfeel is a bit thin.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 13.2%. Cloudy brown colour, thick sediment in the bottle, lots of disgusting floaties in the glass. Small off-white to beige head. Aroma of raw alcohol, bourbon and oak, also notes of vanilla, caramel and dark dried fruits. Sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, also distinct and quite sharp bittering hops, probably also some bitterness from dead yeast cells.

500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.3%. Clear deep golden to amber colour, large to moderate white head. Aroma of malts, bread, caramel and herbal hops. Easy drinking, the flavour has the same elements as the aroma, but the bitterness is moderate. Some sweetness, but not too much.

Jan. 2018: 330 ml swingtop bottle, from El Corte Ingles. Santa Cruz de Tenerife. ABV is 5.6%. Clear deep golden colour, moderate white head. Malty and grainy aroma with hints of caramel, also notes of herbal German hops. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is first citrussy and refreshing, then malty, grainy and dusty, ending dry with moderate hops.

July 2017: Cask halfpint at the Boot Room, Wheldale Hotel. ABV 4.3%. Golden colour, white head. Malty aroma, toffee notes. Nice malty flavour, decent body for a beer of this ABV. Hints of citrus.

March 2020: Cask pint at The Jugged Hare, Barbican, as Jugged Hare Pale Ale. Brewery was not mentioned on the pumpclip. Golden colour, white head. Toffee and caramel aroma. Toffee and some decent hops in the flavour. Okay.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Hazy yellow to orange colour, large white head. Pleasant aroma of yellow stonefruits. The flavour has first slightly sweet notes of yellow stonefruits, followed by a fairly distinct and sharpish hop bitterness, dry aftertaste.

440 ml can, from Seven Cellars. ABV is 7%. Gusher can. Hazy yellow colour, small white head. Aroma of oranges, pine and grapefruit. Citric and slightly peppery mouthfeel. Citrus and pine in the flavour, with a resinous and grapefruity bitterness in the finish.

440 ml can, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.3%. BB date 05. Sept. 2021. (Bought in August.) Slightly hazy golden colour, large to moderate white head. Aroma of citric hops. The flavour has also notes of citric / grapefruity hops, not very sweet, moderately bitter finish. Okay, but a bit one-dimensional.

330 ml can, from Det Gode Brygg, Sandnes. ABV is 4.7%. Clear pale golden colour, huge white head (overcarbonated). Nice floral aroma, some grainy notes too, hints of honey and yellow plums. Slightly sweet flavour, notes of pilsener malts, hints of honey again, herbal German hops in the finish. Not bad.

Oct. 2020: 330 ml can, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Hazy pale straw colour, large white head. Sweetish aroma of fruity kveik, notes of jam, orange juice, orange peel and coriander. Fruity and moderately citric flavour, enough acidity to be refreshing, interesting notes of kveik, moderate coriander, very moderate bittering hops.
