4251 | Grauballe Honeygold | Denmark | Belgian Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 (33 cl bottle). Orange colour, slightly hazy, moderate head. Moderate aroma of malts, nuts, honey and flowery hops. Honey is surprisingly subdued in aroma and flavour - this is definitely a beer, not a mead. However, honey adds a moderate sweetness to the flavour of a beer otherwise dominated by plentiful hops. Lagerish mouthfeel, a bit too carbonated for my taste. Bitter-sweet finish, bitter aftertaste. Not 100% well balanced in my book, but still a decent beer. |

4252 | Shepherd Neame Christmas Ale (2007 - present) | United Kingdom | English Strong Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml clear bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 7.0%. Beautiful clear amber colour, big head, slightly off-white. Aroma of light-struck hops and toffee, with hints of Christmas spices. The flavour is initially fruity and spicy with noticeable alcohol, but is not as sweet as expected, and ends in a rather sharp and peppery hoppy bitterness. Dry and "dusty" bitter aftertaste, nearly metallic. Not as "rich and smooth" as promised on the label, and not very well balanced. Must be better cask conditioned? |

4258 | Durham Apollo | United Kingdom | Blonde Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Cask (hand pump) at the Darlington Spring Thing Beer Festival. ABV is 4.0%. Pale golden colour, low head. Nice citrussy aroma. Distinctly bitter hoppy flavour, but has too weak body to support the bitterness. Still props to Durham for daring to brew hoppy ales, while so many other English breweries are "playing safe" with boring beers. |

4263 | North Riding Bit O Bitter | United Kingdom | Bitter | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Cask (hand pump) at the Darlington Spring Thing Beer Festival 2011. ABV is 3.8%. North Riding Hotel has won numerous awards as one of Scarborough’s best pubs, and they have recently taken to brewing their own beer. (I visited once, before they commenced brewing. They still serve additional beers from other breweries, as demand is outstripping their own production.) Golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma, hints of fruity and grassy hops, hints of sulphur. The flavour is quite dry, ending in a very sharp bitterness. |

4264 | Liefmans Fruitesse | Belgium | Fruit Beer | 3.4
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 250 ml bottle, as Liefmans Fruitesse, from the foreign beer bar at the Darlington Spring Thing Beer Festival. ABV is 4.2%. Brewed with 15% fruits. Beautiful red colour, moderate pink head. Strong sweetish aroma of cherries and mixed berries, also notes of fruit candy. Sweet fruity flavour, like a fruit soda, fruit candy notes galore. Tasty, but there is nothing here to remind you that this is a beer. |

4268 | Durham White Magic (Magic IPA) | United Kingdom | IPA | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle conditioned, as Durham Magic IPA, only the side information reveals that this is White Magic. ABV is 7.0%. Bought at The Cheese & Wine Shop in Darlington. Pale golden colour, huge and lasting white head. Moderate aroma, notes of herbal hops and mild spices. High level of carbonation. Distinct spicy and hoppy flavour, some sweetish fruity notes too, and solid and rather sharp hoppy bitterness in the finish. The alcohol is not particularly well hidden. Would benefit from less carbonation and a more pronounced malty backbone to balance the bitterness, but is well worth sampling as it is. |

Strong aroma of over-ripe bananas and cloves. The flavour has moderate notes of brown malts, banana and cloves. Minimal bitterness (a little more wouldn’t hurt, even in a dunkelweizen). |

Deep golden colour, large to moderate head, slightly off-white. Fairly nice aroma, malts, toffee, ripe fruits. 4273 | Croocked Moon Lawnmower | Denmark | Lager | 3.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 On tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Pale yellow colour. Distinct aroma of American hops. Very dry and light bodied. The hopping may not be extreme per se, but with such a light body, it seems pretty extreme. A "lawnmower beer" should be light bodied, but this one would probably be more refreshing with a more subtle hopping. Still, way above the tasteless swill most people choose as "lawnmover beers". |

4274 | Fanø Lynghvede | Denmark | Spiced Beer | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Unfiltered. Brewed with heather flowers, lavender and chamomile flowers. Hazy yellow colour. Moderate aroma of said flowers/herbs. The flavour is very mild, with only a moderate presence of the above. I think I would have skipped the lavender, used more heather, and added a little more hops. Still, it is always nice when brewers dare to use some of the many fine wild growing herbs we have in Scandinavia. |

4275 | Vestfyen Fyensk | Denmark | Smoked Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 At Copen hagen Beer Festival, as Vestfyen Fyensk Røgøl. With 100% smoked malts, whereof 50% barley and 50% wheat, I assume this must be pretty close to a traditional Grätzer? Cloudy golden colour. Smoky aroma, notes of smoked sausages. Refreshing wheaty and smoky flavour, light bodied. The hoppiness is not as distinct as promised, but sufficient. |
