The flavour is moderately sweet, with the same elements as the aroma, a fruity hint of raisins, minimal hop bitterness.

Strong and complex funky aroma, brettanomyces galore, oaky and "farmhouse" / horseblanket notes. The flavour is sour / acidic and funky, notes of oak, stale hops and old apple cider.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Peachy to pinkish colour. Aroma and flavour of tayberries, the rosehips are very subdued. Medium sour, some lemon, tart, astringent finish. Must be good with a dish of fried or grilled salmon.

440 ml can, Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. ABV is 6.8%. Cloudy pale yellow colour, moderate to low white head. Fairly nice aroma of crushed green gooseberries, lemon rind and spicy hops. Sour flavour of lactic acid, unripe green gooseberries, lemon juice and lemon rind. Low bitterness. Quite refreshing.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 9.8%, 46 IBU. Black colour, small beige head. Roasty aroma, notes of roast malts, coffee, oatmeal and chocolate. Very moderate carbonation. Moderately sweet flavour, notes of roast malts, chocolate, liquorice and coffee, hints of caramel and oatmeal. Moderate hop bitterness in the finish.

500 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Moderately hazy golden to orange colour, large white head. Aroma of citric hops, hints of tropical fruits and pine. Citric hops in the flavour too, a moderate grapefruity and piney bitterness in the finish.

440 ml can, from Gulating ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.6%. Slightly hazy pale golden colour, moderate to small white head. Moderate aroma of yellow stonefruits and citrus, hints of tropical fruits and spruce. Refreshing flavour, not too sweet, with the same elements as the aroma, also a decent hop bitterness in the finish. Might well buy again, would be great on a warm summer's day.

330 ml swingtop bottle, bought at a border shop near Flensburg. ABV is 4.8%. Hazy brownish golden to amber colour, large white head. Moderate aroma of malts (including a hint of mild roastiness) and woodwork, hints of herbs. The flavour is malty without being very sweet, again with mild roasty and woody notes, herbal hops and some fruit in the finish. Not bad.

330 ml swingtop bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Golden colour, moderate white head. Fresh and pleasant aroma, notes of herbal and slightly spicy hops, on a background of pale malts. The flavour is very fresh and fruity for a lager beer, also herbal and spicy notes. Easy drinking and fairly dry, but not thin - there are sufficient malts around. Has a nice alcoholic punch, but the alcohol does not dominate the flavour. More refined than other Maibocks / heller bocks I’ve had. Pleasant to drink, with food or on its own.

375 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.0%. Gusher bottle. Hazy orange colour, moderate to small white head. Aroma of pale and biscuit malts, canned yellow plums and apricots, and spicy bière de garde yeast. Spicy and peppery flavour, medium dry, distinct herbal hops, hints of stewed plums.

750 ml clear screwcap bottle, vintage 2020, from the cidery. ABV is 9%. Clear and pale golden colour, this is a still cider, but there is a slight sparkle when pouring. Aroma of the Aroma apple variety. Semi dry flavour of Aroma apples. A bit one-dimensional, but nice.

750 ml clear bottle, from Vinmonopolet Odda. Vintage 2020. ABV is 8.5%. Golden colour, pours sparkling with a moderate and shortlived white head. Nice aroma of Summerred apples. Flavour of said apples, hints of sulphites.

330 ml bottle, as Skudenes 1st Officer Scotch Ale. ABV is 7%. Ruby to chestnut colour, moderate to small off-white head. Malty aroma with notes of caramel and dark dried fruits, some vinous and oaky hints. The flavour is malty with the same elements as the aroma, but the sweetness is moderate. Very moderate hops, as expected from the style. Enjoyable beer.

Cloudy light golden colour, large head. Typical hefe aroma (which is good), cloves, flowers and some citrus. Light bodied, typical hefe flavour but there's just too little of it, thin mouthfeel. Finish / aftertaste is definitely too thin / weak. The Ur-Weisse is a better choice.

Cask conditioned at The Marquess of Anglesey, Covent Garden, London. Served at cellar temperature. Amber colour, low head, moderate malty aroma with some oak, mellow rounded flavour, moderate but decent bitterness. A good pint!

(500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark under its European name Franziskaner Weissbier Kristallklar.) Filtering off the goodies - what an idea! But that’s what Kristall Weissbiers are all about, for the benefit of people who wouldn’t dream of drinking a beer they can’t see through. With Franziskaner Kristallklar they get at least a decent aroma of banana and cloves, the beer is pale yellow and crystal clear indeed, pours with an enormous head. Flavour is crisp and moderately sweet, some cloves are there, but of course it’s not as good as the Hefe. Still a nice refreshment.

(750 ml corked bottle, champagne style. Bought in Denmark.). A Christmas beer in August, why not? Amber colour, large fizzy head that doesn’t last very long. Pleasant and complex aroma of oak, caramel, dried fruits and spices. I find the flavour less complex, maybe because of the beer’s fizzyness. Still it is reasonably malty and easily drinkable, fairly sweet. Aftertaste is OK but not impressive.
