500 ml swingtop bottle, bought in Spain. ABV is 5.0%. Cloudy pale golden colour, large white head. The aroma is first dusty and grainy, then the typical hefeweizen features (cloves and banana) come through. The medium dry flavour has also some grainy notes, moderate notes of cloves, an apple-like acidity in the finish. Like most hefeweizens it is refreshing and fairly nice to drink - but not the best example of the style.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Hazy brown colour, moderate white head. Pleasant aroma of ripe bananas, cloves and brown bread. The flavour has also notes of brown bread, hints of banana and cloves, but is far drier than the aroma makes you expect. Minimal bitterness. Refreshing and easy drinking - could easily be recommended even for pale lager drinkers who think that everything darker than piss yellow must be dangerous.

Strong and typical hefeweizen aroma of cloves and ripe bananas, hints of candy. Moderate flavour with notes of cloves and banana, hints of citrus. Minimal hops. Light bodied and easy drinking.

500 ml swingtop bottle, bought at Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 5.3%. Dark brown colour, big to moderate off-white to beige head. Nice aroma of malts, fresh bread and fruity and floral hops. The flavour is quite fruity and refreshing for a dunkel, the malts are there, but the beer is not too sweet. Low bitterness, but scores high on drinkability.

330 ml brown twist-off crown cap bottle, from Safari, Lagunen, Bergen, as Bitburger Drive 0,0% Alkoholfrei. Golden colour, moderate white head. Fairly strong grainy aroma with notes of over-boiled vegetables. The flavour is bland and boring, with some unpleasant sourish notes, and a metallic hop extract bite in the finish.

On tap, or possibly the glass was poured from bottle, as Mariabrunner Dunkel, at the Brauerei-Gasthof zur Post, Erding. Very dark brown to ruby colour, moderate off-white head. Pleasant malty aroma with notes of dark bread and caramel. The flavour has distinct notes of dark münchener malts and caramel, also notes of brown bread. Minimal hops. A decent dunkel.

On tap at the Brauerei-Gasthof zur Post, Erding, as Fischer Helles. Crystal clear golden / yellow colour, moderate white head. High level of carbonation in the glass. Moderate aroma of light malts, a hint of grassy hops. The flavour is nice and refreshing, with more distinct hops than expected from an industrial helles, quite good actually.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle, as Fischers Stiftungsbräu Dunkel, at a Chinese restaurant in Erding. Very dark brown colour, moderate off-white head. Nice aroma of bakery, dark münchener malts and caramel. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour has also notes of dark münchener malts and caramel, but is not too sweet. Minimal hops.

On tap, or possibly poured from bottle, at the Erdinger brewery. ABV is 2.9%. Aroma and flavour much like the "ordinary" Erdinger Weissbier, only lighter in character in all aspects. Surprisingly decent for such a light beer, much better than the Erdinger Alkoholfrei.

The flavour is moderately malty with notes of caramel and brown bread, but it is not too sweet. Just enough hops to make this a fairly well-balanced and drinkable dunkel.

Aroma of grassy hops. The flavour has some malty sweetness, some grassiness and a substantial hoppy bitterness, while the alcohol shows an unexpected presence for a 5.4% beer. God knows what makes this a Landbier - it looks and tastes more like a filtered Dortmunder Export to me. Anyway, drinkable it is.

500 ml bottle, as Schlossbrauerei Grünbach Greabecker Urweisse Hell, bought at Rewe Getränkemarkt, Erding. ABV is 5.3%. Cloudy brownish-yellow colour, huge and lasting white head. Strong typical hefeweizen aroma of banana and cloves, also other undefined spices. The flavour has moderate notes of banana and stronger notes of cloves / other spices, but is drier than many other hefeweizens, and the moderate hops in the finish are actually noticeable. A bit too much carbonation in the mouth for my taste, but otherwise a nice h.w.

Easy drinking, not a great beer, but nice enough.

The flavour has some malty sweetness and moderate German hops in the finish - nothing remarkable here, but still a fairly well made and drinkable beer.

Aroma of bakery (brown bread and pastry) and caramel malts, also some moderate fruity notes. The flavour is malty with caramel, but not too sweet, some lightly burnt notes and moderate hops in the finish. Well balanced and pleasant to drink. According to Roger Protz, this is one of the 300 beers you need to sample before you die. I would not limit myself to 300 beers, but König Ludwig Dunkel is definitely worth sampling (and having again the day after), as a fine example of Bavarian dunkels - a style that most of the time does not get the love it deserves on beer rating websites.
